I’m not sure if it’s just me, but I’ve been noticing way too many commander tags around lately. It’s one thing if you’re commanding, but if you’re just pveing… it’s kind of annoying

That’s not even the worst of it. I’m sure you’ve seen the 20 commander tags in the minimap border covering most everything.

Commander tags are no longer for commanding. Now it’s just a fancy item to show off your kitten after buying it with gold or gem conversions.

The tags should’ve always been earned through player experience, achievements or skill, not gold. The results of the patch shows just how flawed it is for now. The upcoming WvW tournament is going to be much more enjoyable thanks to increased coordination, or a living nightmare.

I’m sure things will die down as soon as people get tired of the colors.

Ah gees I sincerely hope that ANet adds an option to hide commander tags on the minimap, looks like an ugly rainbow blight adorns the edges of every bloody map i’m on.

I’m seriously considering making a texmod to make them go away.

PVE looks like an Easter egg exploded. LOL

I am not a commander nor want to be. But IMHO the only real commanders are in WVW, and they work for every once of respect that tag gives them.

PVE commanders are mostly wanna bees. Great example is 90% of the commanders for SB just stand there while the players kill the portals.

Come on, people are just happy with that update and want to fool around with the new shiny next to other happy people on day 1.

Give it a week, most people will get used to it, the effect will wear off, and everything gonna get to normal, but better with new abilities

NO.

First people turn off commanders tags because they don’t like several days of happy people, then whole maps yell at hordes of clueless randoms who turned off chat and commander tags simply ’cause they could change “something” in options, and ruin Teq and Wurm runs for the rest of the map.

We’ve had it with chat lang filter. No, just no.

Making commander tags 75-50-25% opaque? Yeah, okay.

20 level 80s and counting.

It does not bother me so much, personally I do not walk around with my commander tag on unless it is required.

But I must say it has proven useful with my alts, when I notice a champ and I am on my own I just flick on my commander tag and mention a champ is at my location, within minutes I am opening a nice loot bag.

I had to tell off someone in WvW who had it on for no reason and was using map chat while I was standing right next to him while talking to him.

I don’t want a work around I want a fix. It should be trivial to add a disable option. Why do people keep suggest to join a squad that I have no intention of doing anything with, it makes absolutely no sence.

agreed. I don’t want to have to go through the trouble. we need a disable option since anet is now handing out commander tags like candy. I don’t like 20+ colorful c tags moving around on my map when I open it.

I don’t follow commander tags for multiple reasons mainly the fact that it’s purchasable with enough gold and it gives importance when someone doesn’t deserve it. I also don’t like the fact I can’t turn off the commander tags on the maps. Having it visible shows importance, visually puts it on par with waypoints, vistas, skill points etc. And they’re not.

Now, I know Arenanet likes its gold sinks but it’s just ridiculous now. Give us the option of disabling it on our end. But, I don’t see Arenanet doing anything, it’s what a lot of people are now asking for and seeing as how they now made it possible to change the color (maybe as a “hey look at this pretty thing” for the chinese market they’re trying to get into) … yeah I just don’t see it happening.

ehem, yes, yes and yes. since anet decided c tags is all about gold, we need a disable option. a bunch of the colorful commanders on all the maps that I join have much less exp and ap than me, yet they’re still trying to “command.” i’m not happy with that.

I agree they are many more, but my issue with the quality of those who have the commander tag. I have had to rez several of them in various events, none of which are overly difficult. Just your basic run of the mill ones. I am not meaning to condone them as most of the ones I have worked with and seen are good players, but is there something going on where the standards to be commander or something along those lines have been lowered?

People say the attraction will die down, but to where exactly? They have always been annoying in PvE, even before the multi-color change.

Ignoring the problem isn’t going to make it go away. It’s just going to go back to about where it was before.

Or words to that effect.

People aren’t buying skittles tags to “show off” or blah blah blah -blah-bla.

People bought them EN MASSE before update. hundreds who never considered it before did it now because, why the kitten not. Might as well before price increase.

I am one of those people.

For months I (and sometimes several others) led low-population, un-organized, no TS Tequatl maps to victory. And many T5 Drytops, etc… But I only ever bought tag because I didn’t want to have to pay 200 more gold later if I ever decided to “show” map command.

As it is now, I STILL never tag up 95%. But I know I saved a bundle.

I’m the same as Omar. I only bought the tag because the price was about to go up and there’s a chance I may decide to become a commander later. I rarely ever use it and, when I do I will admit that it’s only for vanity’s sake but it’s also only for 5 minutes or so. If I’m doing something that’s highly organized, like Tequatl, and I’m not in charge, my tag is definitely off.

I sometimes use it in casual teaching Arah paths. I play a really small asura so having a nice colorful symbol on top of my head helps people follow me without having to ask someone to tag me.

Same here. I’ve found that feature real handy. I just turn it right off after the champ is dead.

I don’t use mine in PvE. In fact I never planned to get one until this price hike, which got me to shell out the 100 gold while it still cost less. Why buy one? To use the squad as an ooc “custom” chat channel for group RP with not everyone in the same guild.

Used it last night for a 4 hour plot-advancing session and it was marvelous. I guess some people might have wondered why there was a stationary commander tag in an Asura crafting area, but given that my group got booted from the low pop map at least twice, I don’t think many were around to wonder. /grins

A simple option to disable the view of tags has been needed for a long time, same way we can disable the view of nametags, there is no reason during a world event, 30 ppl need to have a tag up, blocking everything on the minimap, and we shouldnt have to constantly find a random commanders squad to join. If they wanted to buy it before the price hike, thats cool, if they want attention, thats fine too, but why should we have to put up with it.

I say what needs to be said, get used to it.
