ArenaNet has recently said in an interview that they plan on doing huge content updates every month forever. now Idk about you but this sounds incredibly difficult for any mmo company to keep up with and also very expensive for a game with no subscription costs.
now I see mmo’s like runescape that do small new content every week and it adds up to a lot of content for a month…I’m guessing if they can do that why not Anet?
does anyone here have any doubts?

I’d rather them stretch it to every two months and spend the resources to fix the large amount of bugs that currently reside in the game.

No since introducing additional bugs when there is a big list of bugs now.

They have separate teams for that, so yeah.

I realize they have separate teams.. but maybe they need to reallocate some of their resources (team members) to get some of these bugs fixed. Just my opinion though.

I have no doubt they can produce content at an amazing rate after playing the beta. There was a beta weekend finale event called Hunger Royale that took 1 designer about 12 hours to put together.

They’ve got some incredible technology over at ANet. Look for great things

They haven’t fixed bugs from the release of the game.
They haven’t fixed bugs from the content update.
They have completely trashed the economy with RNG based free precursors.
They have further trashed it via mailing more precursors out.
They abandoned their principles and insulted their former playerbase with the first update.
They have bled people since then.
They haven’t even managed to tell us how they are going to fix the “mistake” of only putting Ascended gear in a dungeon.

And what’s worse – apparently they didn’t see all of this coming. We all saw these things happening, but they didn’t. Or, they did, and didn’t care. One way or the other.

So… sure, why not. Quality isn’t important for ANet, quantity is.

Throwing more people at bugs does not fix them. Coming from a profesional software engineer, trust me, more people is not always better.

Maybe they should throw better people at them then.

The bugs are very rampant, and mostly unchecked since release. In fact, some things I believe they will never be able to fix, such as culling in WvW.

They MUST fix the game first, I don’t understand all this new focus in new content (that also launchs with unplayable issues), over the Bug Fixes… There are general issues that if ANet manages to improve/fix/change them in the right way, game would be much more fun.

About Monthly Updates for me It’s not that important. Really, I would prefer the actual game to be improved monthly, I know that it is already but I supose it need more focus.

They’ve done it so far, I see no reason they can’t keep doing it.

The only problem might come when they start working on actual expansions. Unless they bring in a bunch of additional people, I would think the people that would be needed to make an expansion would be the same people they’d be using for monthly content, so they’d probably either have to put updates on hold to get the expansion done or slow both down.

Then again, we really don’t know how much time the monthly content updates are taking at this point anyway. Just because they’re being released monthly doesn’t nessicarily mean they’re taking the full month for development. For all we know the Wintersday content might have been done before December even hit. If the monthly content only takes a couple weeks to put together, they’d still have time to work on an expansion in the downtime and it may not have any effect on the monthly content schedule at all.

Or maybe they’re already working on an expansion on the “back burner” and just doing a little at a time when they can, rather than putting any amount of resources into pure expansion development.

I’m all for the monthly content additions, however, I’d like to see them continue to add things like Lost Shores (the region, not necessarily the event) over holiday-themed additions. Whene I get to 80 I don’t want to feel like I’m reliving the same experience on every alt., and more regions with more to see would help alleviate that.

The monthly events are about making money. This game has no subscription fee so they need to make money some how and events seem to be the mode they are using to generate cash by tying them to items in the Black Lion Trading Post. They sell items for each of the events to draw in cash.

I believe anet can keep up with monthly content now, at current player population.

however, as more and more players bleed away from the game for a multitude of reasons, anet will have to cut staffing to maintain profits. at that point monthly updates will no longer happen with regularity.

I know they have a ton in the can like 2 years or so worth of event/content type stuff so I have no doubt that they can do it. Now if that content is applicable since the introduction of ascend gear or agony ect I dont know. Or if that content can be integrated in with out issue.
I dont know about that – but based on what has been said and shown they can do it without much difficulty.
Squashing bugs of the new content (and old content) and ability to host 1 off events are a little off at the moment. It may require new hardware or coding/staff changes so that the new stuff is implemented without issue- that is another story altogether.
