Can I / Should I play Gw1 ?
Yes, you have to buy one of the GW1 campaigns to play it.
you can link your current GW2 account to a brand new GW1 one, all you need is the Eye of the North expansion.

Wait… i can play Eye of north and Nigthfall lore yet? :O
Wow, for sure I’ll play , I love the history of nightfall, if I can play it, should be wonderfoul!
I’m not sure I understand the question.. if you buy Nightfall and Eye of the North then yes you will be able to play through the Nightfall campaign and the Eye of the North content.
Northern Shiverpeaks
Just to clarify:
Nightfall is one of the three major GW1 campaigns (others are Prophecies and Factions).
Eye of the North is an expansion, wich requires at least one of these campaigns.
So you can buy Nightfall and add Eye on top of it, but you will not be ablo to play, if you buy only Eye.
GW1 is the same as GW2 in terms of paying for the game. You just buy Nightfall, Factions or Prophecies once and gain a permanent access to that campaing (you don’t need to buy more ‘time’).

EotN continues the story of Prophecies, but you can buy any of the stand-alones (Proph, Factions, Nightfall) and get to the EotN expansion content. Factions is the most stand-alone in terms of story/lore, Nightfall story has some ties to Tyrian lore but is somewhat independent as well.
Ok. Just to help me to clarify, what I should do (In order to get all the lore) is:
1 – Buy Gw1 Key, to play Prophecies content.
2 – Buy Factions expansion, To play 2nd content
3 – Buy Nightfall expansion, To play 3rd Content
4 – Buy Eye of north expansions, To play 4th Content
And I’ve just read about “Beyond”. Should be good buy and play it? I mean, how much money I’ll invest to play all those contents? Worth it?
Actually EoTN is it’s own self-contained story. The only aspect of it that relates to Prophecies is Gwen and some of the different interactions between the two dwarvan factions, though the later isn’t that predominant in the main plot. You can play EoTN without having touched Prophecies and not get lost in terms of the story.

Beyond is the predecessor to what the Living Story is today. It was a series of free permanent content updates given to the Guild Wars 1 players as a means to keep them entertained while Guild Wars 2 was still in development. The stories in Beyond help shed some light on some of the more predominant lore found in Guild Wars 2. Specifically the events that lead to the exodus of non-human races within Cantha, and the battle for Kryta’s throne.
Start with Nightfall to unlock heroes (Customizable AI companions)
After that, play Eye of the North to get the other batch of heroes.
Then do whichever campaign you like best.
Just an fyi when I bought this last year for hom there was a set with all 3 expansions that was cheaper than 1 expansion alone. So make sure you check all your buying options I was kicking myself later for this mistake. Also moving in GW1 is very different do not let it discourage you from playing because once you get the hang of it it is pretty fun.
Prophecies → factions → Nightfall → Eotn , kitten need to play GW1 again :p The lore was soooooooooo goooood compared to GW2 rofl, Gw2 lore is a joke
its same as gw 2 you buy it you play it forever well at least until they dont shut down servers , also the lore in gw 1 is MILION MILION times beter then gw 2 . I love evrything in that game and you shoud buy it ps if u play charr you gona hate your self in gw 2 :P cuz they are epic bad in gw 1 .
The lore was soooooooooo goooood compared to GW2 rofl, Gw2 lore is a joke
both games share the same lore.
you might be thinking of plot.

You can play GW1, and you should. Be warned, however, it’s a very different game from GW2. In my opinion a much better one, but regardless, it’s quite different.
gw1 is a way better game. the only reason you’ll come back to gw2 is because gw1 is horribly dated.
I’ve Played a little Gw1.. I don’t liked the way thakittens goes on.. I mean :
Talk to NPC> Get one item > Talk Back to Npc;
Talk to NPC> Kill x Monsters > Talk Back to NPC
But I’ll try to acostume with it. Its the sort of gaming that I don’t like to play, but if the history is good, should be worth. Its only strange I’m not playing as an Asura lol
If you want to play it all you can just get the trilogy + EotN. Steam even has the trilogy available.
It’s a million times better than GW2. Go for it.
1. GW1 is B2P (buy to play) just like GW2. No sub fees or anything.
2. Yes, you can link a brand new Guild Wars 1 account with a current GW2 account to unlock bonus items at the EotN.
3. Yes, most all of the lore in GW1 is conveyed extremely well within the game (unlike GW2).

that sounds like you’re doing quests
my quest log is miles long because i never did any of them.
you can level and progress through the story just fine by doing story missions almost exclusively. if you want some help pm me and i’ll add you to my friend list in gw1
it may be that in the beginning you have to do quests, but if it’s boring then don’t do it — chances are you don’t really have to.
One other point, for a new player, the GW1 Wiki is possibly the most extensive and correct of any I have seen in any game, at least the english version is.
Another is that the game is extremely solid. It is exceedingly rare to come across a broken, bugged quest or content.
Playing GW1 after GW2 is a not very good idea. Cuz a new player will never appreciate the old game as a veteran does. You are most probably going to hate it. It’s too late for you now
Although you might like the cinematic and story, GW2 has failed miserably in that.

And the plot of Factions sucked.
I liked the faction’s story. I felt it was told a little better than the Prophecies story, at least when it came to cohesiveness. I felt completely lost in Proph until I read stuff on the wiki later on, which made various things make sense. (Thats what I get for skipping text I guess)
The only thing I disliked about factions was Togo. I felt the need to bash him in the head maaaaany times, but never could.
The UI and graphics are dated, but the story is top notch and the gameplay is beyond amazing. Do yourself a favor and get a few custom hero slots.
Prepare for the most amazing video game journey you’ve ever been on =D What GW2 aspires to become!
I played GW1 for six years and I loved it. GW2 I only play casually here and there because I don’t like it so much.
What I am saying is that it is possible to like both games, but understand that GW1 is a COMPLETELY different game. Other than some names and the background lore, the games are nothing alike.
So, make up your own mind, you might like it, but as people here will tell you to stop comparing GW2 to GW1, I will warn you not to think that GW1 has very much in common with GW2. So if you love GW2, it’s no guarantee at all that you might like GW1.
A couple of things to note: GW1 is darker and I find that the atmosphere is better than GW2. Many more classes to choose from.
On the other hand, there’s no jumping as the maps are 2D oriented and no crafting system. There’s also no auction house so trading is done via chat in the capitals.
GW1 has a fully instanced world. The towns are where you meet other people, when you go outside it’s just you and your team. You can go with other players, but you can also get henchmen, heroes (you can equip these yourself and control their skills) or even mercenaries (same as heroes but are visually copies of you actual alts).
So, just to give you a couple of ideas about how different the games are. Combat is also very different.
However, if lore is your interested, I would definitely give GW1 a go. For me it still is the better game of the two and even though it’s a few years old now and the graphics are older, the design team was actually better when it comes to equipment and creating a proper atmosphere.
If you want shooting unicorns and other childish things like that, you may find GW1 a bit too serious. Me, I prefer games to be a bit more serious. Again, your choice but I’d say it’s worth a try.
I’ve learning how to play Gw1 now. Looks cool enough to go on, I’m awaiting for cool cinematics as the game goes on, because until now (I’ve just got out of training camp), don’t saw too many exciting content =p.
But I’ll go on ahead, Looks cool enough see how Tyria was a couple of years before.
