I have been trying to answer questions and give advice to friends about all the new laurel items available, but I found myself stumped when asked this question:

Do laurel gear boxes (such as Elemental Gear Box, Ranger Gear Box, Mesmer Gear Box, etc) have a chance to contain legendary precursors?

My first impression is that they do, because precursors are exotic items, and the tooltip on the boxes says it has a chance to contain exotic items.

Can anyone please confirm or deny this? Thanks!

I didn’t try the boxes, do they have a guaranteed exotic in ?
Or could they be mostly 2 rares and sometimes contain 1 exotic ?

Yesterday I opened one to get one level 78 and a level 79 rare…

Is there any way for us to know for sure short of a player receiving a precursor or ANet confirming the possibility?

No, Riss, they are not guaranteed to contain an exotic. I purchased one and received two rares from it.

yeh… I’m never buying those boxes again.

just have to hope some lucky chump buys a few boxes and tells the world they got a precursor, or even a lvl 80 exotic, then we shall know you can get a precursor for definate

How are you going to get a precursor (weapon) from an armor box? I’ve never assumed that gear meant weapons or are these configured so Necro gets light armor, staves, scepter, foci, daggers, and maybe(lol) trinkets ?

Anyway, pics or it didn’t happen (show us the weapons you can get).

Well, regarding the fact that Arenanet disabled the ranger gear box (can buy, can’t open atm) because players reported getting rifles (rangers can’t use those), yes, these boxes CAN give weapons and not just armour. How’s the word “gear” restricted to armour in your opinion?

And yes, the boxes can contain rings, accessories and necklaces as well as far as I’ve seen reported on this forum.

A friend of mine bought his first box(es) of Warrior Gear and got Zap. Lucky guy.

I’m not taking the gamble and instead saving Laurels for ascended trinkets. You can’t buy those with gold.
