Guild Wars 2

I think a lot of us are really excited about this. Thanks to ANet for this idea. Don’t ever underestimate how important it is for specializations. 90% of Rift’s success IMO was that you had all these class combinations. Same with Guild Wars. I think people really love the idea of having your class become slightly something else. With that, I have a few questions/requests:

1. Does the whole class name change? I mean like on our character screen? Because if I change from a Ranger to a Druid, I want to be known everywhere in the interface as a level 80 Druid named XXX, not a Ranger. This also means changing the class “icon”.

2. When are more specializations going to be revealed? I think a smart idea would be to one per week counting up to release, to give us something to look forward to.

3. A personal request, I would love to see a possible Crusader Guardian class that can use a Longbow.

4. Are there possible plans for an expansion after this one? I would hope you would strongly consider adding a new race like Dwarves or adding an updated Guild Wars 2 HD version of Cantha with many zones. Don’t let Mists of Pandaria sway you. That was silly. A deeply rooted and serious take could be epic (think Jade Empire-like)

Nobody knows anything like that yet. Any answer before the devs reveal anything will be speculation.

After the announcement last week they said they wouldn’t start doing the deep dives for a couple weeks. So you have another week or two of them ignoring us before we’ll get anything out of them.

Writing a blog or something? They will reveal it when they are kitten well ready too, to maximize the coverage in the dwindling exclusively western MMO news sites.

I did kind of expect them to give us a list of dates for the “Deep Dives” this week, as a way to keep the hype going a bit better. Yes, PAX was a big “wow” moment, but they’re letting that moment linger a bit too long, even with the interviews they’ve done (given that they don’t really add anything there, just clarify a few minor points).

When Its Ready™

I’m assuming the expansion is much further off, so they won’t be going into it until June. The first public demo will show off the new area, let people play with gliding, play a revenant and a druid. Basically most of everything they revealed at Pax South and no more.

This is ANet, they keep the cat in the bag for so long someone should call PETA.

Really? After mostly not talking about this for 2 and a half years, I’d think people would expect the flow of information to be pretty slow. It’s going to happen on their timeline, exactly how and when they want it to, and there’s really no point in getting hung up about it. In the meantime, just play, or do something else, it’s just a game after all… why do people even think about stuff like this?

I would like to think the expansion would hit around the same time as Pax East but that just doesn’t seem likely. They want to demo it, and have a beta. And if they were going to release the game near Pax East then they’d already need a release date and preorder set which it sounds like they don’t have. So it kinda sounds like 6 months out. Given their love for anniversaries, that puts it in line with Aug 28th for release.

I don’t know how then plan on stretching out this hype that far, much less managing the expectations that will come from that. Not to mention the questions it raises about their living world or what we’ll be doing for that time.

Their lack of information and what little we can derive about the release just makes the schedule seem…strange.

If they’re not all viewable at the next demo, they’ll likely reveal them one by one as they get closer to launch. They did the same thing with professions. I’m guessing they’re looking at a summer or winter release. The demo will give a better indication.

I hope they reveal them like they did with the original professions, before GW2 launched. That was a really cool way and built up excitement.
