I’d like to be able to see my own name, guild tag, and the titles I’ve earned. Having no option to view your own name is like building a beautiful home with fantastic gardens then never going outside ever again to look at any of it. I know its possible NC Soft. Lineage: The Blood Pledge, the lawful system, made me obsess over making my name red or blue.

In closing, please add an option to show our char names.

NCSoft doesn’t develop this game.

That said, I miss being able to target myself as in GW1. But, I certainly would not want any significant development resources spent on it, at the cost of new content being delayed.

Do you also run around with a sticker on your hand with your name written so you can see it?
If not then why is it important to see your name in game dont you know what you named it?

Your argument is moot. The same could be asked about the importance of it being hidden also. The fact of the matter is that I’m not the only person in the community that finds value in having my own name visible. Therefore, I made a simple request.

actively develop or not, NC Soft pust their name on everything that belongs to them. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and look in the left corner if you’re confused.

Yep, they are the publisher. Doesn’t mean they develop the game, so other games they publish have really no relevance to GW2. /smh

The point is, I as well as many others (yourself included) would like to have a “own name” type of option. I came to the community forum to express my hopes for the future of gw2.

Except that is exactly what happens: the game can only support so many developers, which limits the number of features that can be added. Each suggestion that ANet accepts means that some other ideas won’t have the resources to be implemented.

A simple request could turn out to be incredibly costly, because it requires rethinking an entire mechanic. Or a complex change could be cheap, because it dovetails with other planned changes. Unless we work at ANet, we couldn’t really predict the costs of any idea we propose.

The best we can do on the forums is to help each other evaluate whether there’s a lot of interest in a change, whether that change would add a lot of benefit, and whether there are predictable complications that would make it costlier to implement.

In the case of this suggestion, I think the discussion so far shows that it has an important, small benefit for a small number of people. That generally isn’t enough to get an idea implemented, especially since it seems unlikely that this one is trivial to implement.

It’s worth raising the idea and discussing it. I wouldn’t, however bet that it will get added to the game any time soon.

All Inculpatus was saying is that other games under ncsofts names don’t have any relevance to Gw2. It’s not saying no to your suggestion (or yes for that matter) just that the comparison you made between two different games by two different developers dont rly have an effect on one another. that’s it really.

As for the other replies, yes, it’s a simple request, but if you’re going to voice your opinion on it, you need to realize that people who disagree or see no merit in the request are going to respond too and that its nothing personal just differenting opinions.

As for my own opinion, i wouldn’t mind if it was added, as long as it has an option to disable it, while i personally dont want my character name to be displayed, i see no problem with others wanting too. Given it’s possible to opt out.

Actually s/he just pointed it out, s/he didn’t use any of that to argument against your point. If i see an error in a post i’ll still point it out even if i agree with it, there is no malicious intent behind it. They aren’t trying to invalidate your argument with it, they are just pointing it out because it’s inaccurate and thus irrelevant to the point of the thread. Haven’t really seen anyone being tactless, tbh.

Inculpatus cedo.9234 is a she and one of the few very level headed people who have responded regularly to threads. What you took out of what was written is up to you but she has never been petty as far as I remember.

So whats happening right now in this thread? Are you and I talking about the hopeful changes to having an option to have our names visible or are we talking about something that literally has no meaning? I believe the latter. So, in order to cut off the head of the snake I wont continue this portion of the conversation any further.

If you play full-screen and are not changing the camera controls constantly you will always be pretty much at the same place on the screen, right? Or am I missing something?

I am sure you can find something that will put text at a fixed location on your screen. Just type in your name, title, and whatever else you want to display.

It’s not a top priority, but it’s something that bugs me every single time I log on and the request has been there pretty much forever, at some point they certainly must have had the resources to do so but decided not to.

I actually wanted this feature too, and was surprised that there was no option to do so.
Mainly, having your information displayed on top of your character promotes self-identity and “reassures” your achievements at a glance. I know it sounds kind of silly, but there is no reason to make snarky comments about this feature..

Furthermore, I can understand that this may not be top priority. However, from a programmer’s perspective, this should not be a difficult task as there is already a method to display you and everyone else’s name / guild / accomplishments.

The option exists in second life. Whether people prefer it on or off seems to have no set pattern though.

I just want to be able to view my character the same way others view it. I wanna look at my fancy armor/weapon skins, name, guild tag, and titles that I’m proud to have earned. I mean for a game that’s basically built on using real life money for vanity or quality of life items, not having an option to have your own name visible kinda takes away from the “vanity” aspect. Which in my eyes is about 80% of any battle. Because you don’t truly win, until you look good doing it.

edit: I used Lineage: The Blood Pledge as an example before because they had a great take on the feature. You weren’t able to target yourself so what they did was make it so when you mouse over your character you could see your name, title, etc. obviously if your mouse wasn’t hovered over your char your name wasn’t visible.

Personally I wouldn’t have a use for it, as I know all 40+ of my character’s names, and I’m not really interested in seeing them on the screen with the title I’m displaying.

With that being said I wouldn’t be opposed to having the option put in-game for those who do want it.
