Hi all,
I am sorry to say, but although I enjoy the game, it more and more looks like ANet is finding rediculous ways to overcharge for simple services and to scam their loyal customers.
I recently changed 2 of my characters I have created over 4 years ago. The first one from female into a male and the second one from female into male. I thought the name would be changed as is logical to me when changing the sex.
Now I have a male with a female name and a female with a male name….
Cost to change this. 10 EUR per name change (800 Gems)!!!! I am sorry to say ANet, but those microtransactions and the amounts you are charging is just close to rediculous. Especially as you don´t warn people that you cannot change the name with the total makeover kit….!
The description on the total make over kit does not allude to name changes…… at all. They also sell a bundle of Name change and total make over that is discounted…… this is a you not paying attention issue not a service cost issue.
Eh if you are not aware there are multiple items and you read total makeover who let´s you change the sex of your character, I don´t think it is a strange thought that you will be able to change the name…or?
The services are all on the same page a simple mouse over would have alleviated this, The description of the total makeover literally only says
“A single character may modify their appearance settings for height, physique, skin color, markings, face, hair, even gender. Race and profession will remain the same. The kit is consumed on accepting a new appearance.”
Where does it even allude to a name change? It only talks about changing physical attributes and appearance not a name change…
I am sorry but this was your failure at attention to detail.
Actually, I don’t think there is any logical connection to getting a name change with a makeover … Anet did write it in the description … by making absolutely no mention of it. I mean, that’s disingenuous to suggest that Anet needs to tell you what is not included in something … by mentioning it’s not included. YOU are to fault for that error.
If you don’t want to pay with real money, convert gold to gems; Anet has GENEROUSLY given players this option for those that value their money more than their time.
It may be difficult to fool-proof everything. When interacting with, or purchasing in-game mechanics/products, it is always prudent to consult the Wiki beforehand.
The cost of Name Changes has not risen since launch; only become less since the advent of bundles and any other discounts.
I would advise you consult the Wiki (or the forums) before attempting to change your characters names, especially if you desire to swap them. You may be surprised.
Good luck.
Many people don’t name their character in a way where the gender matters. Either it could work for both or it’s not really a name in the typical sense but something like Dark Knight (or more likely xDark I Knightx) or Mels Necro or whatever.
I think they’d be pretty upset if they had to pay extra for a name change just to use the new faces and hair styles/colours in the total makeover kit.
Also I think part of the reason name changes cost more is because Anet wants to discourage changing your name on a whim because character names are one of the main ways people in-game recognise each other and they don’t want people to feel they can keep switching to avoid consequences for bad behaviour.
Between the two I think it makes more sense to keep them separate and offer the bundle for people who know they’ll want both.
I’m sorry you didn’t understand that’s how it worked though. Maybe if you contact Support they’d be able to refund you the difference so you can buy a name change contract for the same price it’d have cost to get the bundle originally.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
I doubt they’d do it, but you could try contacting support to see if they would be willing to swap the names of those characters.
For comparison, a total makeover kit in WoW costs $15 and includes a name change, or the name by itself is $10. GW2 is basically the same price, except you can pay in gold.
Makeover’s description clearly says “appearance settings for height, physique, skin color, markings, face, hair, even gender”
So it’s just you not stopping a second and reading everything..
After all, you say you made chars over 4 years ago, one would expect a vet to know what makeover does and that there is a separate item that changes name.
The hover text for the Total Makeover Kit does state in the second paragraph:
“Includes exclusive faces, hair styles, and eye and hair colors. Name, race, and profession will remain the same. Accepting a new appearance consumes the kit.”
I have bolded the relevant sentence. It did tell you that it wouldn’t include a name change.
I’m sorry you didn’t catch that, but it’s not ANet’s fault that you missed that.
