I used the 80 boost that I got from HoT on a Necromancer, but I can’t seem to become a reaper. Not sure if this is just a bug or something that you can’t do with a boosted Necromancer.

The boost is only up to 80- you still have to achieve the Elite Specs on your own- the boost just lets you get right to it.

It seemed to me the elite spec’s are not unlocked when you use a booster, so you simply have to unlock it like any other specialization.

It probably boosts just to a “base” 80, as we are pointlessly expected to play hot maps to get the elite spec.

The trial 80s dont have elite specs and also a single equipment set to choose from which is a bit odd, i would expect atleast a choice of power and condi, instead of just being assigned one of those…

I’m surprised no one has mentioned this yet but:

To equip the Elite Spec lines it HAS to be in the bottom choice of lines. It can’t be in the top or middle. I assume Anet has made it this way so that when new elites come in there is no way we can have more than 1 elite line equipped at the same time.

Hope this fixes your issue.

Since when did this business of being a hero become being a business?

You also have to unlock every other specialization (and I think even skills) before you can start unlocking the elite spec.

You also have to unlock every other specialization (and I think even skills) before you can start unlocking the elite spec.

You get enough skill points to do this by hitting 80. In fact, you don’t even have to do it manually with the boost to 80, it unlocks everything for you.

In order to start using the elite spec, all you you need to do is equip it in the bottom trait slot.

I just brought a brand new lvl 2 character straight out of the newb story to lvl 80 and slotted her elite spec.

EDIT:

Self Correction. You can do this (equip the elite spec right away after hitting 80) with boosted characters only. (Unless you previously acquired the necessary Hero points.)

The revenant I just made and boosted was able to equip its elite spec right away. The only other character I had not leveled to 80 and had enough hero points to equip an elite spec is my ranger, though I’ve had that character for years I have not played it much… she is level 80 and has all the base skills unlocked but still requires more Hero Points to unlock/equip the elite specialization.

However, the training of elite specs requires acquiring Hero Points which you can do at any time, whether you have the elite specialization slotted or not.

The same happened to my boosted Engineer, it didn’t had enough points to unlock the elite spec, it only had 6 HP points available after the boost. It was lv19 before the boost.

It still requires 30 Hero Points to unlock, so a boosted 80 character isn’t going to have enough points to do it right away. Do some world completion or hit up HoT zones to get started.

Many alts; handle it!
