Can't change to fire/electric anymore?
And not to mention some of my skills are missing! I had thunder hammer and other things, i’m really very confused
What level is your ele?
If you are level 80, you can re-learn all the traitlines again under the Train tab. Then go to the builds bit to find the traits you want to select. You will auto have enough hero points to re-gain everything at level 80.
if you are under level 80, you will have to gain more hero points (skill challenges) to unlock what you had before. The system has unsuccessfully been unlocking what it thinks is close to your original build, but instead is giving incorrect traitlines.
You will also need to re-purchase skills. Again if you lack hero points, you will need to go out and earn more
Worth studying the patchnotes for a better explanation

Well, if they messed it up, why aren’t they fixing it?
There was nothing in game telling me anything, i shouldn’t have to rely on studying the game i’m playing to learn what i should log out with…
It isn’t messed up to the point of needing a fix.. It’s just the way it has been coded. There is a thread on why it is doing it and why they choose that method, believing it to be the best of 2 scenarios
When you logged in, a pop up message summarised this. You couldn’t have gamed the system by logging out with a specific traitline system since we didn’t know how it would pan out.
It is, what it is I’m afraid.

Yes, there was something in-game telling you.
As soon as you logged in a big box appeared on your screen that you obviously didn’t bother reading at all and just instantly clicked “Go!”
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
It said that things and happened and to check them out. i’m talking about something before hand to warn me that “Hey, no how you like changing and mixing up your build on the fly? well after today you can’t do that, so log out with what you want to try and keep!”

You CAN still change your build on the fly.
Are you level 80?

It wouldn’t have helped since the system made a judgement call on what it thought you were using based on the fact that traits have moved lines and changed functions now. No one knew how it would precisely turn out. As it happens, under lvl 80’s have got a bit of a raw deal. But you can read more in the official response

If you are level 80 though you can re-spec freely to your hearts content and unlock everything
no, that’s the problem, i’m level 47 and stuck in some build i didn’t want
The short answer is, we’re stuck with it. The best thing thing we can do at this point is go hunting for hero points and/or level so we can buy our way back into the lines we want.
I think at 47 you should be able to have two specializations so if you have points left over, you could try buying into at least fire or air and see if you can’t recover some of your play style. Anet may have spent some of your points on water and arcane trees, but you don’t have to use them; you can still switch out to fire – you just need to buy it.
