After playing the new WoW expansion I decided it wasn’t for me. Iv played GW2 on an off since lunch. I have gotten a engineer to level 28ish and a guardian to 25ish. I deleted the engineer a LONG time ago, but still have the guardian. The problem I’m running into is I really like the engineer profession, but as I reach search it seems like you have to run at lease 2 kits to be effective in pvp, wow, and dps. I don’t like running anymore then one kit if that. I use to play a full elixir eng and really liked him.

The big question, is a full elixir engineer possible to play at max level DPS, WVW and pvp? An be useful? If not , and I need to pick another profession and suggestion? I like being able to support others ether with protections, or healing.

Thanks, for any help.

WvW roamers yes i would suggest you strap on boots but yes. also bombs with elixirs is very effective for support. but yah if you dont want to kit up then roaming with rocket boots is prolly your best idea

I don’t mine boots, I actually like them. Just don’t care for kits.

I’ve been playing a Turret Engineer in PvP and as long as you know what you are doing it really is an incredible build and can help your team out a LOT. It’s great at holding ground, super useful for skyhammer or the courtyard.

You don’t have to run kits to be effective, despite what the meta says.

I like the turret builds as well. Are they good PVE dps and WvW?

Engi without kits won’t be max level dps, simple as that. Can you still be effective though, sure.

Engi’s DPS simply comes from big damage tools spread across multiple kits. Elixir gun has your Acid Bomb. Grenades has your shrapnel and freeze grenade as well as a solid 1 skill. Flamethrower has Flame Blast/Detonate(as well as a fire field to blast for might). Bombs has your highest damage 1 skill. Even toolkit has prybar which isn’t bad.

The idea to maximize engi dps is to rotate through the kits and land your big damage attacks.

Again though, you can be effective with other things, the utility and buffing of elixirs can be quite potent. Turrets are a lower damage but passive consistent damage. So I don’t think you need to feel confined to kits but just realize that they are the top damage and why.

Turrets in PVE are generally a bad idea, if things have particularly nasty attacks that you will just dodge the turret will eat the damage and likely be destroyed. AI in PVE is pretty bad and not a good idea to rely on. Again though, doesn’t mean you can’t, just that it won’t be optimal.

Engi is my main and I go rifle/grenades/bombs. I find bombs can be really effective, but I prefer more of a ranged attacking style. I enjoy the extra range of grenades with the grenadier trait, fun to rain death from above when standing on a wall or etc.

You can do an elixer engi with just ONE kit (normally grenade or bomb) and a rifle and its VERY effective in PvP and WvW.

That would be your best bet.

There is a HGH Celestial Engi variant I saw in a thread recently.
Here is the video. Gave it a try, loved it : although to be fair, I am not THAT good of a PvP and WvW roamer, but from my experience its pretty good.

EDIT : would like to add, Guard is pretty boring to be honest.

Absolutely. PvE is actually a lot easier than PvP or WvW, you usually don’t have to worry quite as much about dps.

You’re going to have an interesting time roaming. Any Mesmer worth his salt will slice you into pieces from a distance while you dance among the teapots. The engi that are more challenging are the grenade spammers.

BOMBS awaaaayyyy!!!!

I find that only if a Mesmer somehow sneaks up on me that i have a problem. Normally Bomb+Tool+Rocket Boots do the job well vs Mesmers.

These boots are made for JUMPING!

Haha and you guys(Mesmers) can be frustrating to pin down if you lose sight of the REAL one for just a second. I can not explain my frustration at using PryBarr or Magnet on an Illusion just to have it shatter instantly in my face.
Its like retaliation on steroids.

First of all engi is quite pain to exp and really open up at 80 so hold up:-)
Playing with multiple kits isnt as complicated as it looks you usualy use only 1-2 skill from one kit in main rotation and its just matter of memorizing.
Full elixir builds are still viable in SPvP and solo roaming in WvW but definetly not in dungeons.
But You can also try ele its much easier to handle then engi and not that boring to play as some other classes

Pure elixer build is weak no matter what, if you want to run elixers, at least use one or two kits as well so you aren’t as handicapped.
