Can't decide between Mes and War
Thief 80 | Elementalist 80 | Mesmer 80 | Necromancer 80 | Revenant TBA
Warrior is extremely good now since the 6/23 patch. They buffed our personal DPS through the roof with it. That said, I suggest warrior!
I main warrior, but my favorite alt is mesmer. Those 2 are by far my favorites. As someone who almost always go solo pug in dungeons and fractals, I feel that as warrior I have big advantage there. Your party gets full quicker, everyone loves to see warrior in party especially pugs. Warrior is also more welcome in speed runs, where mesmer is more like a second option if u don’t have guardian.
In pvp I also prefer warrior because, mesmer basically have 2 builds. You will either be burst shatter or condi, but warriors have many cool builds such as: condi, stun lock, burst zerker, shoutbow celestial….
Also if you are into legendary crafting, you might prefer warrior since they can make more legendaries as they use more weapons.
The only advantage I would give to mesmers, is that they are a little bit more complex to master, so once u start pulling off some amazing things you will feel more satisfaction. Warrior is fairly simple class and the more u play it, u might get bored of its simplicity.
Thank you for the input, leaning more towards warrior now at the moment, though i would like to hear some more peoples views first before finalizing my decision.

The answer is easy: Warrior = god of GW2, press 2 to win. Mesmer = portal slave and sometime ppl completely ignore your portal, making you feel like an idiot.
I think people are harsh with the mesmer.
Yes, with a warrior, you will more easily find a group for any game mode. This profession is just strong everywhere. I mean it has the highest passive defense of the game, one of the highest DPS and one of the highest mobility! And yet it is the only class I do not have. I did make a warrior once and got bored and deleted it.
On the other hand, mesmer is just super fun. I completely disagree with Duncanmix, mesmer have a very nice variety in PvP especial post-patch. You have interrupts, shatter, phantasms, conditions variants for each of these, unique support abilities (boon share, distortion share, reflects, glamours, quickness…). + Chronomancer is coming and this looks super fun! I am main mesmer while this is one of the last class I made simply because this is by far the most fun I ever had with any class in any game. But yes, we are often seen as a utility bot and teams would rather not have you if they don’t really need reflects or portals, especially in PvE because of our low DPS…
Mesmers are great fun in WvW/PvP. Slippery, dynamic, rewarding both deliberative decision-making and being quick on your feet.
In (efficiency-minded) PvE, you spend a lot of time auto-attacking and chaining skills. It’s not bad but I feel like if dungeons/Fractals are your focus, you can get a similar experience with a bit more variety playing guardian instead. I’m not sure I can recommend it over warrior, especially since it’s probably going to be way easier to find pick-up parties as a warrior.
I think warriors are dull as dishwater in WvW. Useful, but dull. Mesmer all the way there. Ditto in SPvP.

Mesmer is my main and my fav class, but the correct answer is warrior
You should go warrior. Mesmer is fun to play but hard to master. A small minority play it efficiently. Actually Mesmer is better than guardian for speed clear meta but a majority of the player base prefers guardian, because it’s easier to play, and can help carry the party more than a Mesmer if some players aren’t good at knowing boss mechanics/dodges etc. so this is why Mesmer gets left out of meta parties. Granted people aren’t going to kick you usually for just being a Mesmer, but if there is a guard in the party already, you are somewhat redundant.
I would decide based on how much you like their actual gameplay rather than on benefits of having said class. As for me personally, I recently abandoned my warrior and rolled a mesmer, despite all the buffs to warr and having two legendaries that don’t transfer ( I had a mesmer before but ragedeleted him when IC was moved from Adept to Grandmaster). The reason for this is that axe builds are dead now ( Yes, I like the “press #1 to win” style, sue me ) and I can’t bring myself to willingly use the three-and-a-half second death trap that is Hundred Blades.
