I am between a casual and hardcore player. I mained Guardian from day 1, played about 1400 hours and got burned out working on my Juggernaut about a year and a half ago. Just hopped back into the game for the release of HoT and finished up my Juggernaut last weekend.
Now I can’t decide if I should stick with my Rev which I leveled to 80 or my Guardian. I want to pick one to complete a set of ascended armor and weapons on, get to high Fractal levels, Raids, etc. I want something that I can use my new Juggernaut on that uses it well. And I want something that can compete in all three areas of the game.
I love the Guardian’s flavor: Take the enemies focus, bash them, while looking back over your shoulder to shout words of encouragement to your allies. Holy flames. etc.
But, I mained Rit and Monk in GW1.. and I feel like Revenant is ANet’s Ritualist solution.. It doesn’t “feel” like a ritualist too much though, but it kind of has that lore associated with it. And Rev can definitely provide support to a team through Glint, Dwarf and Ventari.. It just doesn’t feel as magical (like Rit and Monk) as Guard does..
Anyone else who was in my situation, but has since had one of the two click? And of course, thanks!
The good thing about your situation is that both are heavy class characters and both use many of the same weapons. Consequently, you only need to make one set of ascended equipment and they can just share it (which is what I do with all my heavies).
I don’t see that you really need to decide between one or the other, just make your ascended gear and play with both…..until you get tied of one or realize that one is a better “fit” for you.
Personally, I am still in love with guardian but it seems like Reverant is the more popular choice atm for most game modes. All I can say is go with what you tickles your fancy.

Character slots are 130g-150 right now (converting gold to gems).
Whatever you decide both characters are fun and either way you can get the other one by just playing long enough.
Only thing you might care to know is revenant is somewhat lacking until elite specialization. Not to say it’s unplayable, but normal specs only seem good for utility skills, but herald makes solo gameplay so much smoother.
I find the revenant skills more fun to use, though I also find revs to be more squishy because there’s a serious lack of utility skills which limits your playstyle. Guardian’s greatsword and staff skills are nice too, though I personally still prefer rev skills simply because i find they’re more fun to use (sword #3, hammer’s 1200 range, hammer #2, axe #5, etc.) – just a shame they lack utility skills, then they’d be amazing.
As someone who’s mained guard for most of their career, I can honestly say, revenant. I can guarantee you will never find “looking for DH zerk” in raid LFG. Look at current pvp meta team compositions and tell me where guard is. In pretty much all aspects of the game, revenant will outshine guardian. I personally love playing guardian but often times have to really dig, ask and advertise myself for raid parties, whereas herald zerk is one of the first occupants on anyone’s raid list. We don’t bring anything to the table that someone else can’t bring better unfortunately.
