I’m trying to figure out what version of the game I should buy. The regular or the deluxe. Is the deluxe really worth the extra money? I know it’s only $5, but I could always use that money to buy gems instead.

Advice much appreciated…

That is really simple.
Do you want a Mini Rytlock?
Yes → buy deluxe
No → don’t buy deluxe

deluxe used to be good for key farming(for the golem banker) as well but I don’t think that is as useful anymore.

Consider it this way:

Heroic Edition ($10):
18 Slot Mithril Box
your choice of Primeval, Krytan, or Profane armor skin (each worth 500 gems)
10 Experience boosters

Digital Deluxe Edition ($15):
18 Slot Mithril Box
your choice of Primeval, Krytan, or Profane armor skin (each worth 500 gems)
10 Experience boosters
Mistfire Wolf elite skill
Miniature Rytlock
one Golem Banker (lasts two weeks) for every character you create
1000 influence points for the guild you’re in
5000 PvP rank points.

Heroic Edition plus Digital Deluxe Upgrade ($20, assuming you pay $10 for 800 gems):
two 18 Slot Mithril Box
your choice of Primeval, Krytan, or Profane armor skin (each worth 500 gems)
a second choice of Primeval, Krytan, or Profane armor skin (each worth 500 gems)
20 Experience boosters
Mistfire Wolf elite skill
Miniature Rytlock
one Golem Banker (lasts two weeks) for every character you create
1000 influence points for the guild you’re in
5000 PvP rank points.

+300 gems which are left over.

Whatever you choose, just remember you’re getting a lot more game for far less than the typical “Triple A” these days.

Edit: yes, and the 300 gems you can apply to other things except Black Lion Keys because they aren’t worth it.

The regular version is fine with me as I do not need most of the extras in the deluxe version.

The bonuses are pretty meh. But if you’re a die hard collector mini Rytlock is pretty awesome. You can still get the Mistfire Wolf in game pretty easy and I never see anyone using it anyway… Banker is useless since the bank is practically useless, you can always run to town if you have to. Influence is irrelevant, as are the pvp rank points.

I got the Deluxe Edition and I’m really happy I did, but other people find the extras useless.

The main thing for me was the mini. I collect them (still, even though Anet seem to be trying to discourage this) so it was a must-have for me.

The Mistfire Wolf elite skill is nice to have because it’s free, so you can start using it right away at level 31 (all the rest cost 10 or 30 skill points to unlock). But in the long-run it’s not as good as other elites. I still switch to it sometimes because it’s fun. My main character is a ranger and our best elites are useful but boring.

The golem banker is useful. The bank is easy to get to anyway, but especially early on before you’ve learnt all the tricks to easy bank access (and before you’ve got a lot of bank space) it’s helpful. The problem I have with it is I saved it on most my characters and now I feel like I have to wait for the ‘perfect’ time to use it. I should have just used it early on.

The extra influence….it depends on your guild I suppose. Some people use it to make a private guild with a guild bank for cheap extra storage. I used mine for my main guild because I started at launch, we were all new and the guilds were all new and wanted all the influence we could get to build upgrades. If you’re in a big, established guild (or not in a guild at all) I’d recommend saving it until you need it for a specific purpose.

And the PvP rank points, I have to admit I don’t even know what those do any more. Back when I used mine it gave you glory points, which were basically a currency and I spent them on 18 slot bags. Since then I’ve played PvP for one 2 week period about a year ago, so I don’t know what the rank points would do.

I’d love to get the Mistfire Wolf elite, but I think summon elites are pretty weak.

You can? I thought that was exclusive to buy those special editions?

If I’m already playing (presumably, I have the Heroic edition, but don’t recall ever getting a free 18 slot bag), and buy the Digital Deluxe for 500 gems, I get 2 18 slots bags too? I don’t see that information when I mouse over it, or in the wiki (I don’t think)?

Edit: Well, I went ahead and bought it. Only got 1 bag. The guild and pvp xp was kinda nice, along with a few of the other things.

Krytan armor skin is nice in my opinion if you ever want to play a female human or
norn with medium armor and don’t really like trenchcoats that much.

The skinset alone costs 500 gems, and if you want it that alone makes it worth to buy
Deluxe version

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

The Mistfire is unlocked at levle 31 for collector or deluxe owners. I say it is worth to get the Heroic and buy the upgrade atm. Otherwise Deluxe.
