So, a little back story, I played the original Guild Wars for over 15k hours total, so when GW2 came out I instantly got a copy. However, since I was a PvPer, I didn’t like GW2 much so quit after about 20 minutes of gameplay.

Now, after a few years, seeing the 75% off sale and feeling in the mood for some PvE gameplay I convinced a bunch of my friends (about 10 people) to buy this game. Thing is they all chose the Crystal Desert server and I happened to be on Henge of Denravi and don’t have 1800 (insert currency name here) to switch.

Now my question is; what is this currency and how hard is it to get 1800 of it for a total and absolute noob?

Only if you need to WvW with them, otherwise team up and you will appear on same instance of area.

Megaservers mean that the only thing you are restricted from playing with your friends is WvW. PvE maps and PvP are made up from players across all servers in the region (so in this case NA).

Server doesn’t matter, you can all still play together.

Party up and go to the same map. Once in the same map, right click on one of their portraits and select “Join In XXXXX”. That’s it.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

If you only played for 20 minutes, your character(s) can’t be much past Level 2, nor have accumulated much in-game.

Place everything non-soul-bound in the bank, delete all characters, and transfer your account at no cost to any server without the ‘Full’ designation.

Good luck.

Also a good suggestion. If you delete all characters, you can swap servers for free.

As @Inculpatus cedo said, you CAN transfer for free if you delete all of your characters.

While this is not an option for a long term account, it is something a new account can easily consider for situations just like this.

With that many of you playing it is very likely you will want to participate in wvw together at some point, which is where server does matter. If you have no intention at all of doing server v sever pvp, arena pvp is still game wide, then there is no need to bother.

Indeed, if you’ve hardly put any time into the game you might as well delete your characters and switch servers to be with your friend so you CAN play World vs. World together.

If there area few items you particularly value you can put them in your account bank and they will remain there even after deleting all your characters.

If you’ve put as little time into the game as you’ve said, you should totally just delete your characters and swap to Crystal Desert with your friends. It’s not necessary to play with them in all other aspects, but you might as well!

That makes no sense.

You gave THAT much time to GW1, a game that just let it’s PvP die a slow death, but bailed on GW2 after 20 minutes?

Me no understand.

It doesn’t matter except for WvW… but it is a good thing to think about right now. If you do ever think you might want to try WvW together in the future, it’s a lot cheaper/easier to delete your low-level character and transfer for free now, than to wait until later on, and have to choose between deleting a fully-leveled character or forking over 1800 gems.

How many characters and what level are they? You can transfer for FREE (if there is room to transfer) if you have no characters (but you may have to wait 7 days anyway….(don’t know how first selection counts in the transfer time limit equation).

Unless you have some 80s with above exotic gear, I suggest you just delete you character(s) and transfer. May want to tell us where you are at before doing anything drastic (and we can give you hints on storing anything you may want to keep).

Hmm I wonder, all above exotic gear is always account bound, so it wouldn’t be as bad actually. Though you would loose your crafting progression.

You are correct. Ascended and Legendary would carry over just fine.

In any case, I would say if all your characters are sub 40 (and especially if you only have 1 or 2), OP should not be worried too much about deleting all characters and transferring. He DOES need to consider carefully what to do before deleting.

A few things often forgotten:

  • Make sure you salvage all your soulbound gear you can (and deposit the materials)
  • Make sure you put all your bags and tools in the bank.
  • Spend all your Skill points on Mystic Forge materials (philosopher stones, etc.) and store those in the bank.

I’m sure there are others I’m missing.

D/D Elementalist takes no skill but is good at everything in the game.
Mesmer is unfun to play against and does everything better than thieves.
