Can we Have Heroes in GW2?
With the NPC AI they have?
Uhh… no thank you.
Ya the ai is pretty bad but i wouldn’t mind a single hero that you can run around with. Would be cool if he had special dialogue and some level of customization would make exploring the world a little better for me as a player.
Also the minis fighting mobs with you was awesome as well hope they end up doing that.
Err no. The Dynamic event system and no mob tagging/stealing makes any kind of npc assistants worthless. Not to mention they will make the game unstable, imagine a big event like Tequatl with double the amount of players, ouch that will certainly hurt. And besides, most mobs in the open world appear alone, can be pulled alone and can be fought alone. They rarely come in teams, unless in an event, making teams with npcs pointless.
As for instances, you mean take npcs in dungeons? I’m sure you’ve seen how worthless the dungeon npcs are and I can’t see such a massive redesign happening that will make them “playable”
One of the things I loved about the original Guild Wars was the ability to play all content without having to bother with other players. I could enter a dungeon, go for a lunch break in the middle, and come back with all my heroes still waiting around. And I could repeat this forever. The play was entirely at my pace and at my discretion.
It also gave me an additional layer of progression. Now that I have my legendary and ascended weapons I have nothing more to do. It would be awesome to have to do this with 4 other NPCs and would keep me around much longer. Just imaging tricking out your heroes with ascended gear – it would take forever!
Of course, in an open world you can’t have players running around with an army of NPCs. But for instanced content, it should surely be possible.
As a side note, I loved the instanced areas of the original GW1 where you got vanquisher titles. In GW2, I find the presence of other players bothersome.
So what do you think, should Anet allow us to have hero NPCs with us?
You’re asking other players -who you find “bothersome”- whether they should agree with your opinion of basically making GW2 a single player game? That’s a hypocritical question stacked upon a hypocritical way of asking; the double hypocrisy!
Guild Wars 2 is an MMORPG: Massively MULTIPLAYER Online Role Playing Game. If you don’t like playing a game with other players, then you’re in the completely wrong genre. May want to look into games like Mass Effect, or anything Bioware. Those games are all designed to have NPC agents and almost no player interaction (including SW:TOR).
But, as for GW2, it’ll stay a MMORPG. Tough luck in trying to change it into something it’s not.
Make an alt and trick it out in Ascended gear. If you want some AI following you around so it can stand in AoE or face tank mobs and die, pick ranger.

I already mentioned in the first post that NPCs in the open world makes no sense. I’m only talking about instanced content like dungeons. And maybe every zone can have a separate mode where everything can be killed with 5 people. That would be awesome. We can have a vanquisher title like in the original guild wars for those who’ve killed everything in every zone!

I’m not saying there shouldn’t be an option to team up if you want. People teamed up all the time in GW1. It was still an MMO. The difference being that you could also solo 99% of the content – only areas like DoA etc were tough. And I remember some specialists soloing those areas as well.

+1 to this.
What I’d RATHER see here…. is an “instant Swap” mechanic like some RPG’s have had in the past, where we could have instant access to our “stable of Alts” ….
Imagine a Champion for instance that, most players can’t solo. (Though you and I might have no problems with it b/c we use perma-regen & massive Endurance regen/regain buffs kind of like kitten smiter with Balt’s Aura and unlimited Energy used to have). …The average player exhausts their own lifepool, class mechanic, and “Ult” on this Champion and gets downed with no hope of Rally’ing…. Well instead of just giving up, (as long as NO OTHER PLAYERS are in proximity), they’re allowed to keep switching in alt-characters instantly.
….Eventually they might beat that Champion or difficult D.E. …or they just run out of Alts (and then maybe have reason to buy more character $lot$?). But either way, it simulates having a party of Mecenary Heroes in sort of a turn based Fashion.
.
I’ve actually done this manually in-game by moving all of my Alts together to the same Door or difficult “Boss like Foe” on some minidungeons or JP’s that grant 6-9 Empy shards (=‘s It DOES have a practical use already!) and then in a more or less Role-Playing fashion, switch between those alts for the specific tasks in that challenge that fit them best. ….It’s actually a surprisingly entertaining way to breath new life into the content if you have a diverse stable of characters and miss that sort of thing from old Console games (Seiken Densetsu for instance…. I know just uttering those 2 words can make some old schoolers drool like pavlov dogs)
.
.
EDIT: Apparently Fifty Five Smiter is now a curse word here Nice work Izzy.

And then I would never have to run dungeon with actual human beings ever again!
If this were GW1 I would say no, but considering the skill system isn’t obnoxious in GW2 then why not? Would mean I could finally experience dungeons reliably.

Well GW1 has had them for several years, so your a little late to say no now.
Yes, I know this. My point was that I never liked them in GW1.

I have news for you, on a great many servers it’s already a single player game. Unless you include bots.
