I’m getting more and more tired of all the chaos that occurs in gw2 events. It really is over the top. Each new addition of content adds more and more layers of chaos and multi-tasking, with complete disregard for people with poor internet and/or without super gaming computers.

You go to any of the major events in the game and its raining chaos, Tequatl, Tripple Trouble, Silverwastes, the new Shatterer, you name it. You got to any of HoT maps and there’s more chaos there than a sane person can handle. It’s getting rather tiresome tbh. I’ve realised long time ago, u want us to keep killing entire armies at all of these events and have us do tons of multi-tasking in the process and i keep asking myself why. Then u tie achievements to these often ridiculous feats that u supposed to do during these events, creating even more chaos as people scramble aimlessly, trying to figure out what to do in all that mess. It’s very hard to learn anything at these events with so much going on, leaving many players, especially new ones confused and often turns them away from the game. Even when u do figure out the mechanics and all the multi-tasking and achievement u supposed to do, it makes it no less chaotic and frankly more exhausting, rather than fun. I keep hoping for more orderly sanity in the game, but with each update the game is instead becoming crazier and crazier and i don’t mean that in a nice way.

Like today, I was doing Cobalt TT. While combating massive lags, trying to get those powder kegs with 30 other people getting in my face, while having to run over tiny beams u cannot even see due to all the traffic and hop over small crates to bring them kegs ashore and lay them under the big wurm. If u slip into the water u lose the keg, which is easy to do since ur are constantly being attacked and are locked in combat slowing u down. The scene into which ur supposed to carry these kegs, looked like jumbled mess and complete madness reined over the area. You couldn’t even see where u were going as dozens of vet/champ wurms were constantly spawning all around spewing crap everywhere, knocking players down and if u stepped in any of them AoE’s or got hit by them u lose ur keg. I’ve yet to get that achievement and not sure i ever will, not in that chaos. There so much stuff going on, its too much to process for most people and hence why this event and others like it, rarely succeeds, unless ur in some super guild like TTS (I say this with no disrespect for TTS, just using them as an example).

Then i go to Shatterer and it’s yet more chaos and madness. Yesterday i was in AB, TD, DS, chaos rained supreme there too during the metas. I see people at these events, old and new to gw2 running around aimlessly, as they try to survive gazillion mobs all over the place, throwing AoE’s everywhere, ppl dying all over the place, it really is a scene of insanity and i’m getting sick of it.

I really hope that future expansions have more sedate events with more clear mechanics and lesser amount of mobs, which in turn would require less zergy crowds. It’s ok to have an event like Dragon Sand Boss, but having to spend 1.5 hours fighting 1000’s of mobs to get to it, is not.

Anyway, just an opinion of an old gw2 veteran, who wants to point out to the devs, that not all grandiose events have to revolve around massive chaotic zerging and fighting entire armies every step of the way, nor having to do 10-20 different things at the same time to make it appear complex and fanciful. Sometimes, less is more and oftentimes, simple things are the best.

I’m confused. Are you saying all events in the game are as complicated as two of the most difficult world bosses? Or is it just those two that bother you?

In case you’re not aware the Shatterer was recently updated to make it more complicated than a typical world boss, and the Triple Wurm was designed for people who find even things like that and Tequatl easy. Neither is a typical event, or even a typical world boss.

If you’re having trouble understanding them I recommend starting with something more straight forward, like the 1-15 zone world bosses which usually only have a few mechanics to worry about. Asking for instructions before the event may help too, the commander should be willing to explain it to anyone who isn’t sure what to do.

Are there any comparable events that you prefer, the kind you’d like to see more of? Are you hoping for more relatively simple world bosses, like Golem MkII?

Just speaking personally, I really enjoy the complex events, since they give players a bit of a challenge to learn and perform different roles. I hope the next expansion (and maybe the Spring Update, for that matter,) scales back the meta-event madness, but that’s for other reasons. (Time commitment, finding a map, etc.)

Kinda agree, dont care about multi tasking, I do have a somewhat great computer with around 30 fps at these events.

Buuuuuuuut these events are in my oppinion so boring in every way that I truly do not hope in a million years that they still focus on it…………

It is boring, grindy and have to put graphics on medium/low, the events arent as interesting as the small events/puzzles from the older version of the game. The only good thing about it, is that streams looks cool with them, but no one wants to watch PvE in streams, WvW is better to showcase.

Never found silverwaste fun in any way, it is just tag and go on, and when you got enough keys, then just press W and F when you are near a chest……like I almost slept on 1 of them because I did 3 to get into beta, never got it ofc…..way to boring and lack of any fun or interesting things to do

Kinda envy these people that actually can do nothing but grind, I do not know if influenced by other games so it becomes normal, but still.

That really is the nature of open world events.

Why not try dungeons and fractals? Small group content will have less visual spam, be less taxing on your system, and avoid the mass zerg chaos you describe.

Yea you’ll have to suggest which bosses you prefer so that they know what kind of content you enjoy. I think updating what you play on and maybe getting a better internet service provider will renew the whole game for you if you can be on the best maps with little to no risk of lagging out. Since all of your dislikes seem to just be lag related.

I do have comparable events that i like. I’ll point you to one of my favourite: Dwyna in Malchor Leap. There’s a story behind it that is told as u play the event. The story pulls at your heart strings, it’s not chaotic at all, but rather emotive and meaningful. You know exactly what you’re supposed to do and why and it all makes sense. Even today, after almost 4 years, I still get a jab through my heart when I hear Malchor scream DWYNA across the entire map.

If you are not familiar with the event let me know and I’ll elaborate, if u are familiar then u get the idea.

I also enjoyed Marionette event during LWS1 and there are few others. I’m not saying ALL events should be as well made as Dwyna, but if they were, i would be most pleased.

I’m not looking for simple bosses. I’m looking for complex bosses, with emotion and reason to be where they are and do what they do. They don’t need to wreak chaos everywhere to be amazing, if the above were part of their personality. Chaos is fine in certain events up to a point, but when most of the major bosses/events are all about chaos, it gets tedious fast. You create chaotic events and get the players to run around doing all these tasks to make it look complex, but in reality it’s just covering up the shallowness of it all.

Reminds me of the Daytime event chains in Verdant Brink, or the Pre-Gerent events in Tangled Depths. They’re tied into the map meta event, but they’re fine on their own as well. (I particularly like the Nobles event chain and the Pale Reavers event chain.)

I can see where some events might be overwhelming, but it helps a lot if rein in your focus in a given event, so that you learn part of it at a time.

There are some relatively chaotic (Chak Gerent), sometimes shallow (Verdant Brink at night) events but I think there’s an acceptable mix of things. I would like to see the next expansion rein in the dependence on group events and map-meta events, however. There’s a ton of great events scattered throughout Central Tyria, although I imagine some people might get a little tired of them if they’ve done map completion more than once.

It looks like you have to lower your graphic settings (as I do) for those events. I normally play on mid-high settings in Central Tyria and it’s fine, but it becomes too laggy in HoT events, world bosses fights, or WvW.

If you’re lazy, simply select "best performances " – the game will turn ugly but it should be much better lag-wise – and switch back to your normal settings when the event is done.

Otherwise, the options that matter the most are (in that order):

- Character Model Limit and Character Model Quality: set to “lowest”
- Shaders: set to “low” if the above settings don’t fix it
- Render Sampling: set to subsample if the above settings don’t fix it

If you’re still experiencing low FPS, tune down the other options as well (LOD Distance, Anti-Aliasing, Post Processing, etc).

In my case, the first one do the trick for most areas, including champ trains, cf, or Teq fights. For DS and possibly a few more HoT events, I have to tune down the rest as well. In WvW, I simply use the “best performances” preset since any bit of lag can ruin your game.

Oh, and while we’re talking about it, Anet, could we have 2 major QOL:

- Let us save custom graphic settings so we can easily switch (I’m tired of manually changing half of the options 3 times a day).

- Could we have some higher quality default model? You know… With a texture for the skin and a more detailed one for their armour? Rendering the characters don’t make me lag and my PC could handle better default models – what makes me lag is having my system go through thousands of files in a 25-30 GB archive and build individual models when there are dozens of players around.

When I do the meta events in the new areas and the bosses have names I always think “Who are they, who where they, what is their story” as some of these bosses where supposed to have involvement in the story but was dropped as it “ruined the flow” like the flow wasn’t already ruined for the story xD

You are playing an always-on online game, you are at the world boss event that requires a lot of people. You are always going to have issues there with poor internet, always. This is about you, not the game. There is some regard in that you can downgrade your graphics (really easily too) but at some point you will need a better computer / internet to participate in such things, minimum specs for the game will not suffice for these massive events.

As for chaos – hardly. All these events are clearly mapped out in the wiki and on sites such as dulfy and are well video’d over on youtube. Your example of TT is one of the best examples of why the player needs to get more prepared, Cobalt is all about the zerg and hopping around with barrels.. I only ever run it as an organized guild and it’s organized to within an inch of its life.

I also don’t have that achievement by the way. I’ve done Cobalt maybe twice and have zero kegs placed. It’s on my short term goal list now, plan on getting it over the next few weekends. For me things like TT break up the simpler things (that I also enjoy doing) such as gathering round Orr or completing a story achievement I never got round to doing or finishing off an outpost chain in VB or running a dungeon or two for tokens towards the ascended rewards.

The achievements in the living story should be more your level, especially if they scale so you can solo them. I am not sure it’s really 1.5 hours or 1,000’s of mobs for DS.

Lot of you seem to be focusing on my bad internet, rather than the substance of the events that is the main focus of this thread. I’m used to bad lags at these events, well as much as one can get used to them. The fact is the hectic nature of these events and requirements of 50-100 ppl or more to do them in themselves creates these internet issues. Never the less, i only mentioned lags as a btw. My main concern is the chaotic nature of these events that have very little meaning, when one questions why they’re doing them and why they’re there in the first place.

Most of the bosses, have no background or personality, or reason to be there. They just appear from nowhere and are big HP punch bags surrounded by 100’s of mobs that spawn with no particular pattern or reason other than to keep the players busy and make the whole event appear epic.

I’m not the one who coined the phrase “gw2 is one big cluster kitten” and i can’t disagree with that tbh. I’ve often heard streamers on twitch refer to it as such and being the main reason why they don’t play and can’t get into gw2.

The thing is, when they do add some mechanic to these events, they tend to go overboard with them. They expect players to do too much in a short time in such a hectic set up. Often times, people are left frustrated trying to achieve even some simple tasks, as there are too many mobs that use annoying overdone CC’s, purely designed to stop you completing those tasks. So the design ideology seems to be, not for you to enjoy the sequence of the event, have some fun, interesting lore/story behind it to actually make u care, but totally frustrate you in attempting to accomplish the given tasks in the event. I don’t find most of these events fun, but an extreme frustrating exercise, yet one has to do them at least sometimes if one wants to accomplish things in the game and progress their characters. And most importantly, if u don’t do these events, there isn’t much else left for you to do in the game anyway.

one questions why they’re doing them and why they’re there in the first place.

You are free to question yourself all you want, just don’t go to them if they bother you that much. Do you turn up regularly at Shatterer and think “I don’t even know why I’m here, how I got here, why does this keep happening to me?”

Most of the bosses, have no background or personality, or reason to be there.

Or you just don’ t read the wiki / lore.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/The_Shatterer

I’ve often heard streamers on twitch refer to it as such and being the main reason why they don’t play and can’t get into gw2.

Why are you listening to people who can’t / don’t / won’t play gw2? This seems really self-defeating. If you agree with them so much, join them in not playing.

They expect players to do too much in a short time in such a hectic set up. Often times, people are left frustrated trying to achieve even some simple tasks, as there are too many mobs that use annoying overdone CC’s, purely designed to stop you completing those tasks.

What? You get ages at Shatterer. There’s a whole bunch of achievements now you can work on at your leisure. Kill mobs, break bar, drop grenades, fire health packs. Those people you mention who are getting frustrated (you mean yourself, right?), they don’t need to get good or anything, just get on an organised map of which I see plenty in LFG all the time.

I don’t find most of these events fun, but an extreme frustrating exercise, yet one has to do them at least sometimes if one wants to accomplish things in the game and progress their characters. And most importantly, if u don’t do these events, there isn’t much else left for you to do in the game anyway.

Ok you don’t find them fun, don’t do them maybe?
But you should be able to do them, just get on an organised map and either pay attention to teamspeak, join a squad and pay attention to squad chat and just follow the zerg or learn the pretty simple mechanics that so many others have learned already. By not doing these things you are frustrating yourself, it’s not the games fault.

As for “not much else to do in the game”.. really?
This game may not be for you any longer, take a break, there’s still a lot of fun to be had when you’re in the mood.

I’m definitely a ‘pro chaos’ person. I love the fiddliness of the Engineer class and that’s compounded in big events – I love it!

My advice to the OP, however, would be to rather assume to necessarily be involved with all aspects of an event; instead, focus and dedicate yourself to one smaller part and do it really well.

Or assign a role to yourself, like be the healer for a particular group.

You’re essentially choosing to take in too much information, so I’d suggest breaking down the task and tackle it in smaller pieces. Events are supposed to be setup like this anyway, and that’s certainly been my experience so far.

Also, always be of the mindset to just ALT+F4 and walk away if you’re not enjoying it. You always have that control.

Does anyone remember how often Tarir has failed, shortly after the release of HoT? I’ve had thought that I will never see the heropoint at the end of the chamber. And now it’s on farm status if you get into an organised map, the same with TD. People are learning the mechanic whenever they get in an organised map, sometimes just someone has to explain it, if there are too many event-newbies out there. Then, if players just would listen more and don’t press just 1,1,1 … , more event would be successful and non-chaotic.

A zerg is anything but chaotic, if it was chaotic people would be firing their lasers randomly at all sorts of things and running in different directions without focus. The OP seems to have a problem with organised events.
