This, is NOT a rant about the feature pack itself, so please, try to avoid being negative.

In the past few weeks I came across many players on various social media, that are just too afraid or skeptical to say something,
so I decided to speak in their and my name.

The reason why I’m writing this is because I LOVE Guild Wars 2.
it’s an awesome game with many unique and interesting systems that you can’t find in other mmorpgs.
That’s exactly why I don’t understand why you are focusing on things that are not essentialy important for the game’s future and the community.

Don’t get me wrong, the leveling experience IS important, however most of the upcoming features from this feature pack should have already been introduced to the game at least a year ago,
when many players were still leveling up their characters.
Today, implementing this kind of updates bothers most veteran players, especially after you told us that you’re not working
on any dungeons (or dungeon mechanics) as well as that you can’t focus on content like SAB.
It might not be so, but you’re showing us that you don’t really care much about the veteran players – or endgame in general.
Appearantly you’re focusing on new players and offer them an even better experience as they are already getting. Honestly, the leveling experience is already GREAT in gw2. It’s not hard to grasp its mechanics at all. It’s simple and logical already,
not to mention the kind community who never fails to help a beginner in need.
Leveling up is the only thing that gw2 doesn’t need to change to make the game better.
Your community never asked for simplified leveling experience as we’re aware that it’s awesome as it is. We asked for WvWs ACTUAL improvements,
We asked for new sPvP maps, we asked for Guild features and guild halls, and skill fixes, and for crying out loud, I’m not a big fan of it, but players asked for Cantha.
We are aware that we won’t get those things served on a plate as soon as we express it,
but you guys have a good picture of things that would make us play more often.
What’s even worse is that whenever we ask you about this things, you reply with “It’s on the table” and keep updating/creating things that players never mentioned.

And I know what you’ll say. there’s the living story which is supposed to be endgame.
As much as it’s unique, well received (especially season 2) and interactive, it is, sadly, limited as well and it can’t compensate for everything that other free MMOs usually deliver to their players with their updates.
If you want your players to stay in this game, you have to start working on things that we will be messing with after reaching level 80. At this point most of us would also be happy if you would announce an expansion or something else that would be considered an actually big update. If you are working on something big, please AT LEAST LET US KNOW, cause at this rate, many will leave and find other MMOs to play.

That was a really good post. Some things that were written in it have been laying on my mind for quite some time. That was the reason why I took a pause on that game as I’m not that big of a plot fan and I ran out of pvp ideas. I got bored. Perhaps it is time that the game’s developers focus also on keeping the old players
on-board aswell as getting new players in the game.
That was a good post with a good point.

Playing devil’s advocate here…but why should Anet care of the Veteran Players, they been around a long time and has amass tons of gold to convert to Gems. The veterans are not making Anet money, it’s the newblood (like China). Heck, if anything we are a drain on their resources. It’s all about the $$$$$$$$.

They already stated that next week is the week we should all be looking forward to I wasn’t very impressed with some of the updates in this past weeks announcements but it’s not the part of the update for us.

It is a nice addition though, encouraging me to invite a few of my friends for September and also to hold back on making a new character so that I can experience it fresh.

Just curious. I think this new patch, particularly the last bit, is REALLY important.

Remember: A lot of these “improve the new game experience” features were developed for the Chinese launch, and are getting ported back to the international version of the game because they’re mostly finished already. While they do take a certain amount of developer time to integrate into the international version, it would be pretty wasteful to just leave all that work sitting on the table.

It’s not super exciting, as a veteran player, to get a bunch of adjustments to when characters learn abilities, unlock story arcs, etc., but I get where they’re coming from. Most of the work is already done for the Chinese version of these features, so it makes sense to bring them over. As long as you’re introducing new features, it makes some sense to write them up, to build excitement as well as to inform.

(Although, I hope Week 3 has some substantially better news for current players, or this feature back is going to continue to feel a bit lackluster. Basically the one change that I can think of off-hand that will affect me personally is the improvement to dungeon ownership, which is good, but not exactly a killer feature.)

Because the community has been complaining about that for more than a year now and kept defending anet too. After almost 2 years, I’m starting to lose hope too.

The only important part of the patch MIGHT be the last one. Every other part of it were just welcomed additions but nothing that players actually asked for or at least showed some kind of interest in.

They are additions to the game, but they shouldn’t be implemented with the feature pack tag on them, as it was already stated that most of them are just China client imports.
I also stated that I’m only talking in my and the name of those that are too afraid or just skeptical (mostly because of people like you who don’t really want to understand the seriousness of this issue and will keep defending ANET regardless of what’s going on) to say something.

Players definitely 100% asked for better frame rates and performance at big events. They asked for account bound commander tags and colors. They asked for a better crafting UI.

In fact, most of the stuff in this patch was asked for along the way. I’m not really sure why you’d think otherwise.

The last page, yesterday, wasn’t asked for by long time players, but there have been plenty of complaints about how the game doesn’t teach you anything and even several large threads on tutorials.

In order to please 10% of the players who will find their own way anyway (same as everyone else did), they are ignoring the wishes of the veteran players who are asking for more or less the same thing for 2 years now. and they always get the same reply “it’s on the table”. Listen – I wrote this to express what MANY players think. The majority of players don’t play end game in any game. I firmly believe it. We’ve heard the devs say how many people did elite instances in Guild Wars 1 in the past and it’s never as much as you think it is. I do all that stuff, but most players didn’t. It’s a sad fact of life.

The loudest people on forums are not necessarily a majority. I say it all the time. I believe it to be true.

And if you think people in WvW and people who do meta events are some sort of minority (both groups require faster frame rates in big battles and more stability), I don’t know what to tell you.

Crafters have been as ignored as anyone since launch. There are people who love crafting and want to do more with it. They get something for them in this update.

Dungeon complaints about getting booted out of a dungeon when the leader leaves have been around for a long long time. There’s tons of people who wanted the instance leadership thing changed.

Converting gold to gems does not hurt Anet in any way. You aren’t TAKING money from them, it’s all virtual. Also, in the long run, people who farm tons of gold and buy stuff with it are only helping Anet. They help make the gold/gems rate worse, which makes buying gems and converting to gold more encouraging for other people.

Anet is so keen on nerfing any kind of farming, if buying gems with gold actually hurt their bottom dollar, they would have taken out 2 years ago.

Also, in general response to OP and most of the people complaining about the feature patch, it’s a FEATURE patch, not content. To sit there and say “why are you working on this instead of putting in new dungeons and maps?” is ridiculous. Most of what the veteran players want is not features, so yes, this update is not that interesting to us, but they have to know by now that we’re bored, and I’m sure they’ve been trying to figure out what to do about that for a while.

Yeah, “most people don’t play endgame” that must be why they are all happy on the forums right now. Because the veterans that are in endgame want the content to not be endgame… They clearly are looking for content that is for lower levels just so that they that are at lvl 80 sitting around can still be just sitting around…

i find the title of this thread highly amusing
and i will be honest.. you answered your own question, why is arena net so focused on newer players? because they focused on level 80s for the past 2 years.. everything about this game has been pvp, wvw, or fluff content.. the hilarious part about this is it only caters to the vocal minority.. you can straw poll all you want, but it’s better to look at actual statistics.. i’ll make it simple to understand, mmorpg players are the oxygen of your mmorpg.. if arena net has a list of agenda at headquarters tyria should be written in bold letters at the top.. yes, people love pvp and fluff content and they whine about it most and loudest because it always had the easiest talking point.. and certain things will always have its crowd of players, but arena net made a mistake and the game is looking like an old sitcom with the same 10 patrons sitting around the bar and nobody else is around..

can we be honest for a second
i’ll agree that most of the ‘big’ changes we get in gw2 are QoL changes you would have seen in other mmo on a much better schedule.. but please, just because it may not be the content you want, don’t use it as a segue to whine.. the players need to be honest if they want the company to be honest.. “oh, that’s a good feature.. i’d even pay gems for that!” vs feature arrives “i’ve waited on this how dare you charge me for it!” a few weeks ago people were so poor in tyria they almost had no hope of buying commander tags.. lower prices and a grandfather policy and magically Everyone has at least 1/3 of the previously proposed price!? see attachment
Arena net should listen, communicate, and mind their decisions. They shouldn’t cave just for positive feedback and they shouldn’t make excuses either. Again, the honesty thing.. have you ever tried this one? ever? “we appreciate everyone’s enthusiasm but we simply aren’t looking in that direction just now.. we’ll keep it in mind while we all try to stay on the same page and move forward” or “we fell a bit short on that one and we aren’t ignoring the issue” See what i did there? it sounds better than ’it’s on the table Somewhere, we’re loooking into it’ just be honest and more importantly be human
you may be arena net, but you represent something more important.. tyria and everyone who plays in that place..

in summation- stand together upon truer foundation, or fall apart

And almost all of it was asked for by people.

That’s where gw2 is different. You start your endgame as soon as you reach level 80. That’s why it would be so easier to create end game features and content (like others already mentioned, guild features, actual WvW updates, sPvP updates and of course, dungeons and similar repeatable content)

Once again, I talk in the name of those that didn’t actually post things on the forum. As a matter of fact, They are not even from the forum.

People in WvW are angry because all they got was a skill and a few tweaks. No actual WvW changes that would make the whole WvW concept exciting and fun again. Right now it’s just running all over the map, capping things with occasional clashes.

Crafters might have been ignored, but that’s because noone cared since in most cases it’s not even worth crafting anymore…

Dungeon ownership. Yes small tweak – which could be easily added in the minor patch, not an actual feature pack. I wonder how many will complain about getting kicked out of their own dungeons now.

Guilds were not asking just for missions but any feature to interact with the guild more. and one of the most common wishes – guild halls.

I wrote in the first line that I’m not dissing the pack and that it has nothing to do with the pack itself. It’s about ANETs production. The fact that they said they are not working on SAB and any dungeons, while they have time for leveling updates is what bothers the community. At this point their priorities should be reversed completely.
They should have been focusing on the leveling process a year, if not two, ago. (there were lots of beta tests to figure this kind of things out in advance)
Today they should be focusing on end game features and content..

Stop being such a white knight please. I like ANET as well, but I won’t defend them in situations like that. You don’t even have to defend them since it’s not an attack on them – I’m honestly just expressing something that many players would like to express as well.

And we don’t want features? we want guild features, we want WvW ACTUAL features, we want sPvP features. is that good enough?

Just curious. I think this new patch, particularly the last bit, is REALLY important.

Because the community has been complaining about that for more than a year now and kept defending anet too. After almost 2 years, I’m starting to lose hope too.

The only important part of the patch MIGHT be the last one. Every other part of it was just welcomed additions but nothing that players actually asked for.

Players definitely 100% asked for better frame rates and performance at big events. They asked for account bound commander tags and colors. They asked for a better crafting UI.

In fact, most of the stuff in this patch was asked for along the way. I’m not really sure why you’d think otherwise.

The last page, yesterday, wasn’t asked for by long time players, but there have been plenty of complaints about how the game doesn’t teach you anything and even several large threads on tutorials.

the only problem is that those improvments should be done in first or second month after release not 2 years later ! and we still dont have perma content which we can play everyday .

So they shouldn’t be bothering with these improvements at all? Just because they’re overdue doesn’t mean it’s a waste of time to implement them.

Also, in general response to OP and most of the people complaining about the feature patch, it’s a FEATURE patch, not content. To sit there and say “why are you working on this instead of putting in new dungeons and maps?” is ridiculous. Most of what the veteran players want is not features, so yes, this update is not that interesting to us, but they have to know by now that we’re bored, and I’m sure they’ve been trying to figure out what to do about that for a while.

they should add features like that but come on , things like that should be updated every month without hyped announcements

-leveling in gw2 is one of the best and easiest levelings i have ever seen
-crafting 99% of people just level it to the max using google guide and even have no idea what they are doing then they craft one item and leave it 4ever because like in 99% of mmos crafting is useless and it is much easier to obtain better armor/weapon from other activities . The only exception is ascended armor but still after 2 daily crafts you already know what to do .

there are so many aspects which should be updated in this game and the worst thing is that most of them can be done by IT student for few beers in few hours (account-bound cmd tag with different colors 0_0 )

statistics..

Well, based on the statistics many players left because they get bored since there are no actual new content that would be worth playing. And we’re not just talking the usual overhype..

In fact, most of the stuff in this patch was asked for along the way. I’m not really sure why you’d think otherwise.

The last page, yesterday, wasn’t asked for by long time players, but there have been plenty of complaints about how the game doesn’t teach you anything and even several large threads on tutorials.

The majority asked for other things. ESPECIALLY END GAME THINGS – which, based on the latest interviews we won’t be getting anytime soon.
In order to please 10% of the players who will find their own way anyway (same as everyone else did), they are ignoring the wishes of the veteran players who are asking for more or less the same thing for 2 years now. and they always get the same reply “it’s on the table”. Listen – I wrote this to express what MANY players think. I’m not really looking for an argument but for ANET to see and hopefully realize that we are in need of actual endgame features and content more than an even better leveling experience which we will forget as soon as we reach level 80 (so, basically around 1 week).

Guilds have been complaining for a long time about guild missions. This patch so far, remember, we haven’t seen it all, has covered a lot of different elements of the game, but get this….

the one thing it’s not and was never supposed to be was a content patch. It’s a feature patch. The stuff you’re talking about is content. Content isn’t features. So the content you want won’t be coming in this pack because it’s not a content pack. It’s a feature pack.

And almost all of it was asked for by people.

Yeah, “most people don’t play endgame” that must be why they are all happy on the forums right now. Because the veterans that are in endgame want the content to not be endgame… They clearly are looking for content that is for lower levels just so that they that are at lvl 80 sitting around can still be just sitting around…
/sarcasm

Anet feels a lot like Scar, I’m just waiting for their musical number where they keep saying: “THIS WILL BE AMAZING!” and “THIS WILL BE GREAT FOR ALL OF YOU” but in the end is just underwhelming stuff that nobody cares / cared / will ever care for.

You have no evidence that end game is more requested than anything else, except the forums. Anet has said in the past that most people never reached end game in the first Guild Wars game, and we know from other games, most recently Lotro, that most players never get to end game.

It’s so easy to say try to dismiss what I say with your opinions. I’m pretty sure that everyone on Lotro who wants raids believes most people raid, when we know from devs it’s not only less than 10% of the playerbase, but it’s ALWAYS been less than 10%.

Sadly most of the people that are going to post in this thread are going to be negative towards you(like is already pretty clear). I feel like there are only a handful of people on left on these forums that actually wish for the game to get BETTER. Everyone else stopped coming here, left for another game, or got banned.

I noticed :/
It’s sad tho’ Because instead of wishing for a better game they just keep praising anet, not even realizing that they do more harm than good.

I do agree, but that’s not what happened, and all I’m seeing is a bunch of whining about how “ANet doesn’t care about veterans anymore.” Obviously things are not going as well as we would like over there, and they clearly have a lot to balance at the moment. This is the thing they are choosing to do right now, and it’s got a lot of improvements that the game desperately needs. So what’s it gonna be? “You should have released this a year ago” or “you should be making new content instead of this?”

Also, they’ve been pretty clear in the recent past (i.e. last week?) that they’re going to continue to collaborate with players on the forums to develop content that we want. They’re just not doing it right now, and people like OP are impatient and stomping their feet until they get what they want. Well, it’s not going to come any faster no matter how many times you whine about it. There are things going on at ANet that you can’t even begin to imagine, complications that players never take into consideration, so how about we all just wait a little bit and see what they’re going to do after they finish this?

Just because you do not want it dose not make it any lesser to add to the game. This week is about new players next week is about old players get over your self and wait for the full info until you go off.

Beyond that you CANT have things said in the forms during the update info and thing it will comply changes what they are adding these things have been in the work from the last big update like this and they are off of ppl views back then. The NEXT update will be about ppl views now this is just part of mmorpg.

Really? I think it’s OBVIOUS we all want end game as it’s the only thing that keeps an mmo going and we all want GW2 to keep going, right? Or do you maybe want it to die prematurely?

I asked for honesty so please be honest. Can you tell me which part of the GW2’s end game you didn’t explore yet? Cause personally I think that reaching level 50 fractals, doing all dungeons, getting all LS achievements and such is pretty much the absolute end of the end game. One you start repeating some kind of content over and over again, you reached end game. Players that started playing playing 2 years ago, reached that end game in less than a month and kept doing the same thing over and over again.

Next week won’t be focusing only veteran players. It will just affect them. The point is – at this rate, they could at least be focusing on features that would be targeting every player, not just new players in general. Like i mentioned before, guild functions, wvw, spvp, those are all features that should be prioritized today, since most of the players are already passed the leveling phase.

Honesty? I am a player, and I don’t want the things you claim all players want. Why is it that if it’s something you want, it’s good for the game, and if it’s not something you are interested in, it’s bad for the game?

Lol, I certainly didn’t do all the ‘end-game’ content you list within the first two months. Perhaps a bit less hyperbole, and more honesty is called for.

Just a player’s perspective, of course. Good luck.

The only major mistake I saw from A-net making content temporary. They fixed that and will be bring season one back. A-Net has not been sleeping for 2 years they have been working and they want the game to succeed and grow more then the OP because it is their livelihood. To say people are only praising is just a straight up lie. Read more talk (type) less. If you don’t give something A-net does value it doesn’t mean others don’t. I can completely understand your point but you can’t throw away all that A-Net has done just because you don’t give it value. You want to be productive join in on the CDI and give constructive criticism and good feedback. Dry Top many that participated would say that it is a direct result. Both sides of this argument have to take a step back and try to understand one another and not argue but try to find a solution. But don’t say we need more WvW content and then dismiss EotM because its a “karma train” the community is making it a karm train (just an example) or sPvP throw the new maps to the trash because its not good enough. People sometimes like to argue and insult more then read and try to come up with constructive feed back. I have read every type people who say stop working on PvE because sPvP need more attention others say work on WvW because its all about sPvP etc….. And people comparing GW1 to GW2 this is the hardest to understand because GW1 was ALL private instances the only time is was open world was in hubs so OBVIOUSLY it is easier to build content quicker when you don’t have as many domino pieces that can fall on each other. Step back relax and join in on the CDI not all will be the same but that is how you start and if you make it a positive experience we can have more. Your acting as if you KNOW how to do this in a programming way? Do you? If not i am not sure if you realty know what your asking for. Things like Spvp and WvW have a very finetoon system any thing that messing up this system will destroy a week of content for players or more. Its like holding lighting in a bottle any thing that makes these game types go down or become unplayable you will lose a major bit of your pop. adding in content that makes one side win out over the others comply you will lose a major bit of your pop.

This is not PVE you cant add things willynilly when you feel like it nor can you remove things when you feel like it. Its a very long and drawn out set of test and standers to make it into the game.

So its not an issue of need for when they update WvW and Spvp its an issue of time odds are they are already working on the next update but its about 3 to 6 months down the rode what we have now is from 6 months or so from the past.

Also content is not part of the feache patch LS patch is content don’t look for any new content this update or your going to be disappointing. So yes next week will be more about old players and feacher that are added that will changes how they play the game.

If i would have thrown it away I wouldn’t be writing on the forum and get myself into the lions den, would i?

I gave up on CDI after I heard what happened with the commander system CDI.

I gave WvW and sPvP as an example because we were talking about features more than content directly and I wasn’t targeting any kind of content they added. WvW needs a full revamp, and sPvP need different game types.

As I already mentioned in the first post, this is not supposed to be any kind of ranting.

The game is good but it needs a few major updates to keep the community going.
The thing is, even if you are happy now, if we won’t be getting new content and new features that would make the game more interesting after you get to level 80, you will end up getting bored and eventually even leave the game. Why I wrote this here is because I hope anet to see this and maybe get something positive out of it.
As I said before, I didn’t really ask for specific features. It’s more about directions which they should be following in order to make the majority happy (happy customer usually tends to waste more money).

Not at all, however I can name you many mmos that have more rich updates both content as well as feature wise – which is the main argument here. The game is out for 2 years, we didn’t get features and content that usually mmorpgs get in such a period of it. That’s fine and all since the game has many things already implemented in game, but things are getting boring and they will actually have to start releasing content and features more often if they will want players to stay ingame.

As a matter of fact I do, since I’m actually a programmer.

As a fellow programmer, I’d like to point out, no, you don’t. You might understand ways in which you could implement these things, but you do not know how ANet did it, or how difficult it is for them to make changes to their code base. You don’t know what features they are testing as we speak or what things they’ve already tried and had to throw out. Just because something appears to be simple does not mean it is, and if you have any real world experience, you ought to understand that if you want to guess how long it will take to implement something, take your initial guess and multiply it by 3. And that doesn’t include QA.

Someone probably already replied to this but this is my thought. When the new players get to 80 and find that there is no more progression horizontal or otherwise they will be in the same boat as the vets. The vets have been playing hoping that as the game matures it will add the missing pieces. The new players will get there and feel that same void but will think “wait isn’t this game 3, 4 years old?” and then THEY will leave the game too.

If Anet wants to make money, they need to add content to the GAME not the gem store and add FEATURE SERVICES to the gem store. Such as purchasing trait templates, dye templates, player housing expansions etc.

As a side note, to any that may feel that posts like this seem entitled, it’s not about “Anet, gimme gimme gimme” it’s about passionate players of a game they love voicing their concerns about something they care about and feeling ignored. There’s my 2 cents.

You don’t know what features they are testing as we speak or what things they’ve already tried and had to throw out. Just because something appears to be simple does not mean it is, and if you have any real world experience, you ought to understand that.

Bad porgramming. Simple as that. If you make code and then later you have no idea what you did or how to change it, it is bad programming, and if this is the case, this game was doomed since second 0.

Can we be honest for a second?

As a matter of fact I do, since I’m actually a programmer.

Most mmos are built in such way to make furter modifications easier. I’ve been working on a few mmo private servers in my past and I must say that most of them have many similarities.
The thing is – in every single interview where the reporter asked players what should he ask anet, same features kept poping up. Anet should know by now what players actually want and focus on those features first regardless on how hard it is.
