Can we expect Higher Tier geared in the future patches?
They didn’t in GW1, and I don’t expect it in GW2, because they specifically promised us no gear treadmill.
99% no, the same way GW1 worked.
and you’d find alot of kitten people if they did making all the exotics and indeed legendaries useless come the expansion.
Does AreanaNet have any plans in putting higher tier armor, and weapons in the game?
Simple question may be a bad idea or a good idea. What are your thoughts?
Lately doing anything in this game is starting to feel . . . Boring/depressing ( well not depressing but it felt right to put it in there). Like the same old Jazz everyday. After a hour or 2 I think to myself what did I accomplish? Not much a few more gold than I had but I don’t need it.
Like there is nothing else to strive for/ simply nothing else to do.
Dungeons? Boring and little to no reward. Most dungeon I blacklisted to I would never do again. Only 1 dungeon I would do is COF. I played story and exp for the rest but Arah, Arah same stats as COF gear but the gear looks more uglier so I find no point in doing it.
Story, I dont know I dont play games for story. If I wanted a story I would open a book. Crafting? Seems boring.
WvW? Very fun when you work together and bring things down as a team with very good coordination when your winning or close to it. My server seems to have a very low population. So when the main zerg sleeps or see that no matter what they do, they get rocked cause of the number advantage the opponents has. People stop queing for WvW. I will not transfer that is just weak and lame.Just wish there was more to the game than what they have to offer. Worth my money? Maybe, not my 80$ but 60$ sure.
Take a break from the game if you do not find anything fun in it until they make new stuff that interest you. It really is that simple. You are not paying a monthly fee, so you can always just log in when you feel like it. You might feel different in 2 months.
To add another tier (what’d it be, ultra-legendary?) would violate all they’ve promised about gear in this game and GW1 too.
‘course they also said "when it’s ready"…
they had stated that there would indeed be a level cap increase down the road, but they did not said when it would happen (sorry dont know exactly where to search for a link for it), but if they do raise the cap, i expect them to:
raise the static exotics level (m looking at you dungeons and wvw armors) along with the cap (meaning that if they do raise it, any dungeon armor is suddenly turned from 80 to 90, with the apropiate stats increases)
though preferenciably, i hope they dont touch the level cap at all
There is an intentional stats plateau, meaning your stats cannot increase further. This will not be changing.
They could possibly add extra ‘tiers’ of cosmetic gear, as this wouldn’t break one of the key design principles. However I don’t see this being implemented anytime soon.
Some harder paths for explorable with significant token values could work. Although they’d have to introduce a “tokens” tab to the collectibles section (which I would like anyway). Or even hard group based missions that take place in sections of the world (similar to the story missions now, but designed around groups).
they had stated that there would indeed be a level cap increase down the road, but they did not said when it would happen
Not quite correct.
They declined to say that there would never be a level cap raise but they had no plans to do so at the moment. Basically, they chose to keep all options open and not box themselves in with absolute statements.
I’m pretty sure they have said the level cap will be raised with expansions. However, that was a while ago, not sure if they’re going to stick to that plan.
From a business stand-point it would make sense. Think of how much money they’d make selling those Fine Transmutation stones…?

What this guy said.. although GW1 didn’t have increased level caps with expansions, GW2 might.. I wouldn’t be too upset about it either (other than legendaries… I would think those should be scaled up or something considering the amount of effort required to get them) because the armor from dungeons isn’t TOO hard to get.. i still don’t have the set i want yet, but I think I will before an expansion comes out. Anyways, here’s some things that the googles found for me.. whether or not these still apply or are “legitimate” I have no idea.
Someone said at 58:35 of the following podcast they mention that there may be increased levels.
http://www.gameovercast.co.uk/index.php?id=news&db3=68
And on this thread over at guildwars2guru, I think someone transcribed the aforementioned podcast.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/19473-interview-gw2-qa-cd-projekt-conference/
Like I said, I can’t vouch for any of that, but perhaps someone from ANet will comment on this.
Edit:
O yea, forgot.. most people would probably just craft exotics of the next level tier and just transmute the looks to what they have currently.. really adding more levels wouldn’t do much other than appeal to some peoples’ sense of progression.

Sure hope not. One of the big strengths of GW1 was no increase in level cap or gear. Money was used for doing whatever you wanted and never felt stressful.
Delayed content is eventually good. Rushed content is eternally bad. ~ Shigeru Miyamoto
I sincerely hope not. With everyone being equal in power, they can start designing content to challenge the player’s skill and preparedness, rather than based around what tier of inflated gear they’re wearing.
Imagine, an MMO in which the player is actually expected to TRY to build for and defeat content, instead of mash the same macro button every month while wearing a new armor set.
Priorities, what to do?

Honestly, I don’t want to see raised level caps & new tiers. I think back to my experience playing GW & WoW and realize that I had way more fun with new GW expansions than I ever did in WoW. No new level caps, just the meager 20. But what each expansion brought us was another continent of content (stories, quests, vendors), weapon & armor skins, new skills for every profession, new professions, and new “dungeons.” What Anet did with GW was a winning combination of design & art & fun. I want to be able to come back to my characters with renewed excitement to play them every day, new builds, new armors, new DEs, and involved & exciting dungeons like UW & FOW were to me. That’s what i want to see from expansions…not higher gear tiers that force us to grind for more gold/mats/gear. But fun content that makes me want to find a group and play.

No macro’s in the game, so no macro button :-P and don’t they already do this to an extent? Some fights require heavy condition removal, some fights have lots of projectiles (CoE story Mega Blasters + Warrior w/ Missile Deflection = awesome) or require poison to be up on the mob at all times etc… There’s plenty of ways to satisfy many fights.. anyways, my point being that I feel like they do this already and I don’t think throwing in gear that’s 5 levels higher and requires little to no effort to get (just craft it yourself or buy it off the TP) will change that mentality of content design.
I’m not saying that “I need higher lvl stuffs! omg, need bigger better loots now!”, but if they have it, I wouldn’t care too much.. if they don’t have it, great too, no need to focus on anything but the content.
I do have a feeling though that increased level gear etc. would appeal to the wider audience and that should taken into consideration (more players = a good thing).

Ok, you make some good points.. I would much rather see new skills than more levels, I can agree to that… but they don’t necessarily need to be mutually exclusive. And the grind.. yea, there would be one if they introduced it, but I don’t think it would be anywhere near what other games have for a grind.
I would be disappointed if GW2 switched to a gear grind game. Those few of you PvErs that bought a PvP game and want a gear grind/raid grind/whatever you miss from WoW, find a PvE game.
smack..Wut?…smack…smack…
raising cap and tiers makes no sense do to downscaling. They have enough balance issues as it is.
They need to hit that sweet spot, were you still feel powerful and very strong, when you get downlevelled. sometimes your power gets downlevelled so much you feel weak, and thats depressing. I get that you shouldnt be able to 1 shot champions, but you should be able to stay alive much, much longer against champions. At least if you dodge their big attacks.
The idea should be; Any character in GW2 can become more powerful, more specialized and capable through their own skill, but it should not be that any player will become a living of god of killing hundreds of monters.
thats what happens in other games. Thats when you become Neo in the matrix. Once he achieved flight, the story sort of ended. there was nothing more to go for in part 2 and 3. he already became a super human. when players in MMORPGs become so powerful they go down to a newbie zone and commits murder against 100s without breaking a sweat it sort of removes that barrier of the universe. its too much. too much dragon ball im 5 and im stronger than superman.
Its hilarious for 5 minutes and then you sort of get disjointed from the experience. at the end of the day its not really that fun being that ultra strong. its not relateable or interesting. its much better being strong and capable, but still having fears in the context of things around you.
Guild Wars 1 ran on a model of expanding itself horizontally. Look at WoW. the next tier of armors introduced even more stupid spiky looking shoulder pieces. it just became more and more juvenile, and eventually the cool fantasy setting from Warcraft 2 was twisted into this boring world that didnt even obey by its own rules.
GW2 expanded. Magic the gathering. every player gets more choice. more weapons, more skills. if there are more weapons to choose from but you still only have 2 at a time, it makes everyone more unique. because everyone can just choose two.
I swear by my greatsword. but I will be very different depending on if I equip a longbow or rifle. that is a thing that can make me different from another greatsword warrior. if more weapons get introduced we can further grow apart, and let every warrior get a higher chance of running with a new build.
But this approach constitutes we stop fixating on stats and numbers. gamers get head over heals on numbers but they dont matter. your skill matters. how good at navigating through terrain, dodging at the right time, using line of sight, all these things matters.
You spend time getting attached to your character as you level. but then the real fun starts. hitting the stats and lvl ceiling is just you becoming a teenager. now its time to find yourself and learning to play.
master every weapon, customize every build, learn how combos work. Most people dont know how to do combos, or know what goes on! We dont need to grow vertically in power like WoW. it becomes over the top and it becomes stupid.
Lets do it horizontally.
I would be disappointed if GW2 switched to a gear grind game. Those few of you PvErs that bought a PvP game and want a gear grind/raid grind/whatever you miss from WoW, find a PvE game.
It’s not just a PvP game :-P the PvE is awesome too.
Gear treadmills are a poor excuse for content in mmorpg’s. It’s a mechanic that keeps the player paying for their subscription. It’s out-dated and not at all a fun thing to do, and I would hope that with GW2, we would be past this archaic mechanic by now.
Of course, if we can expect higher level caps, we can probably expect higher tiers of armour— sucks for the people who have level 80 legendaries already. They’ll be made redundant by higher levels of whites.
It really does make no sense, as a player, to ever wish for a gear treadmill to be implimented into the game. Every time a new, higher level of gear is introduced, it’s a kick in the teeth to those players who spent hours, days, and weeks collecting and gambling to get their characters maxed.
I think we can expect new cosmetic armours— most likely from new dungeons and karma vendors, maybe even legendary armour sets (oh god please no. Imagine crafting a legendary weapon, six times)— but I do not expect we’ll see higher levels, or better armour.
The other alternative, it’s possible that GW2 “expansions” will be more like the campaigns in GW1. When you buy the new campaign, you play a new character.
It’s hard to speculate at this early stage in the game’s development; almost pointless, I’d say.
I like how it was in GW1, same gear, new graphics.
Made it worth getting, but didn’t change the outcome of the game.
Bring more race-specific gear!
As I understand it, there will not be “better gear” as in higher tier however there will be “new” gear with similar stats and/or new skins.
Feed them and they multiply.
Please do not feed them.
They said expansions would be like traditional expansions and not the stand alone type expansions that GW1 did.
The level cap increase was said by Colin during an interview:
“Yeah. The level cap will be 80 on the initial release of the game, and we absolutely would increase it further into the game, probably through expansions is the most likely place we would do that”
There won’t be tiered level 80 gear though, since it’s supposed to be horizontal progression at the level cap.
Besides an easy way of adding “better gear” its to add new runes, sigils, etc with diff bonuses, etc that can “upgrade” your current set up (prob have to change build to maximize potential).
I would be disappointed if GW2 switched to a gear grind game. Those few of you PvErs that bought a PvP game and want a gear grind/raid grind/whatever you miss from WoW, find a PvE game.
Yes, this is solely a PvP game. That’s why they didn’t put thousands of man hours into designing an immense PvE world.
Oh wait…they did do that.
People just never cease to amaze me.
You should be playing the game because it’s fun, not for a gear treadmill (I suppose some might find that fun, and to those people I suggest getting a job).
This game is more like a standard MMO in some ways than GW1 so you never know, I could see them bumping the level cap at some point and upping the gear, but it wouldn’t be the same as tiering.
So from what I read, all the Pve I did in this game has come to a somewhat of a halt. I explored everything to an extent were I find fun and Anet has no intention to add more varieties to there game currently.
Pvp: WvW is fun to a point but it is the same thing every week (New maps?) Also when did anybody ever had a WvW match up where there was no hackers, no glitches that affected the whole map.
I see how tournaments may appeal to some people not to me. Plus you got to factor in all the balance issues.
Also there seems to be expansions in the upcoming future. If this is what Arenanet’s games has to offer I would not buy the expansions or other games.
I see that I bought the game looking for a huge world to explore. A vast selection of gear and armor to obtain, higher tier or low teir for skins I guess. (not really they don’t have much gear sets in the game and they are not very good looking. The world is significantly smaller than I imagine.)
If I might add for humans with some gear combinations you are force to see your characters pubes which I find hilarious I ran all over the place saying ‘Dude check out my pubes’ to have a good laugh. Plus armour clipping to other armour or/and weapons.
I will take a break from the game for a bit. (come back for the Halloween Events ) To come back to see if I want to do the same thing over and over.
Already spent 100 bucks via gems converted it to gold getting the exotics armors amulets rings weapons and it would suck if there will be higher tiered stuff
I am in the same boat you are, I’m bored with dungeons, and not interested in PvP, or WvW, so i don’t bother with them. I have done dungeons loads of time, already geared my character with all the dungeon stuff i wanted. That being said, I don’t agree with adding higher tier weapon, or add high lvl cap, that would just ruin the philosophy of the game. I’m waiting for this content update for the halloween, maybe it will give us more content to enjoy. If not i can alway take a break, and come back one day when they add loads of more content, that i have no doubt anet will do.
