Karma functionality has been removed from enchanted reward boosts, which could (and can) be created from karma boosts, albeit at a 50% loss (the only boost of which this is true)

For me, this made it wasteful to convert karma to enchanted; it’s just one extra inv slot, and i was still able to condense the other however many boosters, and i would have thought that anyone who valued karma boosts would likewise have left them alone. apparently this is not the case.

A lot of people have made it very clear, with differing intensities of emphasis, that they are upset that they can no longer choose karma from their enchanted reward boosts, and that they feel cheated. As i understand it, this was not advertised in the patch notes, and outside of support ticket responses, no official position has been offered.

So, here, if you will: Can a developer, or our lovely community manager, give the community some word on this change:
Bug or Feature? If the former, when can we expect a fix, and if the latter, what is the reason behind it?

Your post puts a lot of emphasis on those who converted karma boosters, to the point that it takes up about half of what you say, yet you don’t know that the people who converted karma boosters in this manner were a sizable number. If you were to re-read the first page of the relevant thread, there were a few people on that page who specifically said that they had changed karma boosters. There were more than that who said they didn’t or they didn’t specify which they converted. By putting so much emphasis on the few that converted, you weaken the argument against this change and weaken your request that ANet respond.

To me, the main advantage was to convert undesired boosters such as EXP or killstreak into desired ones such as karma. As such, the enchanted reward boosts I have accumulated over time have been devalued with this recent change.

Personally, I would have expected a warning prior to patch or some kind of grace-period. If karma gain is supposed to be more limited in the future, that’s fine, but give us a chance to convert our existing enchanted reward boosts into karma ones.

(Why someone would have done the double karma-booster trade is beyond me, but that’s not the point of my complaint)

Karma skins.

Off the top of my head there are the three Temple armor sets (42k karma for each piece, 18 pieces, so 756k karma total), Ebon Vanguard, Lionguard, and Pirate weapons (9.8k each, 57 weapons, 55.86k total), Tier 1 cultural weapons (9.8k each, 76 weapons, 744.8k total), Tier 2 cultural weapons (35k each, 76 weapons, 2.66m total), and Tier 3 cultural weapons (63k each, 95 weapons, 5.985m total).

That’s 10,201,660 karma. I’m not even counting all the other karma skins like Duelist Armor and the such, but those won’t add much to the total since they’re relatively cheap.

that is like asking for the game to be fixed and no more bug,s at all think we got a far better chance of getting free gold just running around then this happening .

Yes, we do need a response. I am personally getting very tired of these shady tactics.

There are better sources than karma for the T1 and T2 cultural weapons though. You can buy them for relatively cheap for WvW tokens in a skin form (so it won’t even cost you a transmutation stone) and you can get T1 from blue and green drops, and T2 from rare drops in the race areas.

Oh, true, forgot about those, Samari would still need another 7.6 million karma if they intend to collect the remaining skins though.

I’m still short about 3 million karma for the remaining T3 cultural weapons. I have every other karma skin in the game. Karma boosts were the only boosters I ever used and now I have a pile of useless enchanted boosts.

I would have to check but there are cloth gloves you can buy with karma then MF them and salvage them for gold. Outside of that I just use on temple armor for alts or to test builds.

It’s pretty obvious that a karma nerf/functionality change is coming.

It’s not time to panic and buy up shards, sun beads and food with all your remaining karma just yet… But just remember what happened with glory.

Glory generation was turned off for six months and I’d you still had some left, it was gone. Use it or lose it.

Buy your drunk achievement for 10 AP.

Buy up all the rare karma weapons & armors.
Buy up food ingredients, sun beads, & obsidian shards.
Use the karma converter once a day.
Convert your karma to gold by buying Orrian boxes or using the mystic forge.

i do feel for you and your lost $500.00 . this is just why i use game cash only and at best i only spent $20.00 real world cash just to get harvesting tools . other wise i only used game cash . and thanks for the info on this post i think this was missed by a lot of people easy

Wait what, why did you spend $500 on karma boosters??

most likely he spent 500 on black lion chest keys got ticket scraps and other things then merged his unwanted boosters into enhanced boosters wanting the karma from them.

2:1 karma booster conversion was never and never would have been worth it.

Sorry, the devs can’t hear you from inside the protective pillow fort they are hiding in.

Remember when there were all those posts about wanting better communication from ANet and ANet promising they would try harder to communicate?

Well, this is exactly the type of thing we were talking about. Since they said they will communicate better, I’m positive they will respond soon.

making a legendary takes about 1,000,000 karma
a lot of crafting recipes call for karma-bought, especially cooking
buying recipes to make ascended items takes karma, as well as crafting the items
a full set of exotic temple armor is 252k karma
some other item skins can only be bought with karma

So, with all those devalued enchanted boosts remaining in my bank – any official word on this?

Karma was, and probably still is, the main source of obsidian shards, a vital item in making legendary weapons and ascended gear.

300,000 isn’t really that much, I know some have tens of millions of karma. The only reason I don’t is that I spent the stuff on making legendaries.

You can also buy gathering tools, sickles, axes, picks from various heart vendors, although the Obsidian pick is only available in Southsun and requires an event. Many have crude salvage kits for sale.

To me, the point is not about obtaining karma and what to spend it on, but about the subjective value of the karma boost that can no longer be selected from the enchanted boost. Personally, I couldn’t care less about EXP or killstreak boosters, but I understand that they could be useful for other players. The same applies to karma boosters.

With this unannounced change, Anet cheated some players (like myself) of quite a few potential karma boosters without any chance to retrieve them beforehand. In my opinion, that’s not a nice thing to do. As stated before, how they handle karma gain in the future I don’t particularly care about, but the enchanted boosts I solely created in order to be able to retrieve a KARMA BOOSTER from them when I need one is something that really irks me.

You can still get Karma Boosters from level up rewards so I don’t see how there exactly removed. Unless Anet overlooked level up rewards and this very post is a red flag and there next course of action would be to tamper with the system and change the level up reward boosters as well. Though that would mean they actually read the forums so I’m sure that those karma booster rewards will still be there for years to come.

Currently if all of your characters are level 80, there is no value in any sort of XP booster…. since you get nothing from moving the experience bar past level 80 at the moment. If you have leveled up all your crafting there is no use for a crafting booster.

So what options are you left with? Magic Find, Gathering and Item Booster (which seems like a combination of the previous two)?

Those are pretty pitiful options… My magic find is already in excess of 200. I don’t do enough gathering for it to be of value to me.

Don’t bet the farm on getting Karma Boosts from leveling up, I had a lvl 22 when this patch went live and I immediately leveled her to 24 which should have given me the option to chose a Karma boost, it didn’t.

I found one of the boosts rewarded at the end of the personal story had become a heroic booster.
Not disappointed. I don’t even remember what that boost used to be.
