Can we please get usable props?
Usable props are always an extremely big pain from a design standpoint in an MMO. You have to deal with clipping and vastly different character sizes, and vastly different armor styles, and also have to deal with gender issues. Heck, back in City of Heroes, there was an issue where many of the sitting animations weren’t available to female characters because they wouldn’t be very… appropriate.
That said, I fully support interactive props. Its a lot of work, and it is on the back burner as far as development resources go, but it is still something I’d love to see.
This is something only roleplayers really care about, which means the modding community picks up here…. but gw2 doesn’t allow modding for some reason. My guess is it might tarnish it’s reputation as the leading ESPORTS mmo.
Yet Aion, World of Warcraft, and several other MMO, allow the use of chairs at the very least. If you mean by modding, add ons like WoW allows, a lot of MMOs see the divide, and conflict addons like Recount, or Gearscore can create, and just don’t want that in their games. I tend to agree with them. But if you mean like in Skyrim, making your own custom modifications to the game, I have no clue why they don’t, other than possible program conflicts, or mods with hidden key loggers.
Back on the original subject, Aion is actually the only game I have played so far that lets you actually lay in beds, and has animations for it.
They talked about this on stream before~ something they just simply failed to do with their engine. http://www.usgamer.net/articles/colin-johanson-talks-dungeons-dragons-and-chairs
You… can be a chair…
It took me a while, but I learned to sit on chairs in different poses on my norn. Leaned back, one leg on the table, crouching, hell, even passed out face in a bowl of soup.
I am one of the few mythical creatures who can sit on chairs in Guild Wars 2, most of the time.
Aside from that little brag, yes the ability to sit on chairs, and so on would be very appreciated indeed!
Back when GW2 was being developed there was a little comic strip illustrating the conversation between two Norn and three Orcs if I remember correctly. It was funny because the Orcs all flipped when one of the Norn reached out grabbed a mug drank the contents and then bashed the mug over the head of one of the Orcs and made the observation that none of them looked like healers. Within the article surrounding this comic strip was the promise of an interactive world that moved away from things like lack of social props and the triad of Tank, Damage, Healer.
I would like to see added to the bundle of improvements an expansion of the emotes (even to GW1 standards, I really miss taunt and scare) and was hoping that there could be some social props added (like the beer mug) that might work along the same lines as the toy mechanic? (Belcher’s bluff is all fine and dandy but sometimes y’ just want to stand in a bar and drink!) It’s something that I thought should be brought up since we are talking about improvements to the game mechanic why not add a bit of a caveat to further enhance the social interactions as well? I’ve played GW2 since the first Beta and have been enthusiastic about it ever since but this one little area is something I would really, really like to see expanded if we’re talking about additions to the game.
