Q:

Each profession’s attributes will be updated to have half of their functionality be part of a specialization and half of their functionality be a baseline for that profession (see individual profession notes).

Can anyone explain exactly what this means, to say.. A mesmer or a guardian.

It’s referencing Virtue recharge (Guardian) and Mesmer’s Shatter Cooldowns. Before, going into virtues/illusions with 6 points would reduce Cooldowns by whatever amount. Now, the cooldowns are naturally reduced by half of that value, and Virtues and Illusions have Minor traits that further reduce the cooldowns by the final half of that value.

As I understand it, “baseline” means you get it just for being the profession, it’s automatic. Like, perhaps, all Necro wells being ground targeted now, instead of traited to do that. “Part of a spec” means that you have to pick that spec line and that trait to get the function.
