For example people who have two legendary pistols “HOPE”, did they craft both of them? Were each one as expensive to craft as the other? How do you craft two of the same legendaries once you’ve already unlocked the achievements the first time?

You can craft multiple, or you can just skin another pistol.

No. You can not craft two of the same Legendaries. It will allow you to get to the end but then stop you at the last step with the warning you’ve already crafted it.

A Legendary Journey
This crafting system is an account-based activity, which means you’ll only be able to craft each precursor this way once. However, all of the currently existing precursor acquisition methods will remain intact in addition to this new acquisition method. That means that if you want a particular precursor more than once, you’ll have to fall back to the original methods of acquisition.

You can only craft each of the new legendaries once, as the only way to get their precursors is via the non-repeatable collections.

You can create the old ones numerous times by using alternate means to acquire their precursors.

During a stream previewing the new legendaries last year, it was mentioned that they are looking into a way of making a blank legendary (ie has ascended stats and ability to change stats, but no legendary skin) that can be transmuted to allow players a way to obtain duplicates of the new legendaries. I don’t think any more has been mentioned on this, so no ETA, or even confirmation that we’re definitely getting it, but it may appear at some point in the future.

First generation one: yes.

Second generation one: no, since the precursor collection can be done once.
Anet said however that they are planning on making it repeatable or just recraftable, in the future.

If you saw a dude with 2 HOPEs the second one is just a regular pistol reskinned throught the wardrobe

You’re right that you can’t get the achievement with the new legendaries, but that’s because the only way to get the precursor is through the collection and that can only be done once per account.

But I think you can still do it with the old ones and it doesn’t matter where the precursor comes from because they are all identical. This is why things like runes and new skins are lost when you upgrade items in the Mystic Forge – because the game isn’t really using your specific copy of the item to build a new one – all it’s doing is deleting the items you put in and creating a new one in your inventory.

No I haven’t tested it myself, but if that wasn’t the case then buying precursors off the TP for the achievement would be a huge gamble because you have no way of knowing if the person selling it got it as a drop or from the Forge and therefore if it will work with the other one you’ve got. Which means we would have had at least one topic from someone absolutely furious that they wasted their gold.

Also assuming the game works like every other computer system I’ve ever encountered it would mean we’d have two separate listings for each precursor on the TP – one for ones from the Forge and one for drops. Because they would be considered two unique items.

Because ANet also said that the “new” craftable legendaries can only be made once so could not be used to get the title and achievement. Only the “old” legendaries can be made twice to get the legendary. It does not matter how you got 2 of the same precursor as long as it’s not the “new” way.
