Hi there!

I need your help! I explain:

I am a french player, student in international trade. I really have to improve my english because I wanna become bilingual french/english. Well, I come back on GW2 and I took a decision: change my server. I currently am on Jade Sea. I like this server but it’s a french community. I want to find an english/american one to train and improve my english.

So, what is the best server in your opinion?

If you are needed some more informations, I’m interested in PvP and WvW. PvE is in my opinion a joke on GW2 ^^‘.
I’ll look for a guild because It’s better to speak to improve my accent, learn more about foreigners, and simply because the game is more fun with vocal!

Obviously, I’m not perfect in english, so sorry for my mistakes! But practice is a best way of learning than any teachers!

Thanks for your attention, and your answers.

If you’re interested in WvW, I recommend looking at the tournament tables and choosing a server with a reasonably good scoring.

Server only really matters in WvW now as in PvE all EU servers are able to access one another in all PvE maps (the same goes for NA servers). Both EU and NA also have reasonable access to French communities too.

It might be a really obvious suggestion, but in your chat options, make sure that you have unchecked the “show French only” box. This means that you will be able to see users using clients in English, Spanish and German as well (meaning you will easily be able to communicate in English with other English speakers).

It might also be worth changing your game client (Text language) to English so that almost all English speaker will be able to see your messages in chat.

I hope I’ve helped in some way! (Sorry I can’t recommend any specific world for you to move to!)

Thanks for your advices!

Yeah, I already changed my game client to the english version! However, I didn’t know the option that consist in disable the “show french only”

I still don’t know what server I should choose, but at least I can communicate more easily with foreigners, so thanks again!

If everyone else have ideas, don’t hesitate to answer!

Maybe, if it’s playable without too much lag, consider transferring to a NA server if it’s an English speaking server you want. Because of Megaservers there aren’t specific language servers anymore. Maybe you can make another thread and ask how playable it is. I gather a lot of Australians play on the NA servers so it may not be too bad.

(And since you want to improve your English, the word arrest in your thread title isn’t correct. You probably want make without the to in front (either: Can you help me make my choice or Can you help me choose) Arrest means to restrain a criminal, for example The policeman arrested the man, or to stop something from moving).

Hey hey, I’m French playing & communicating mainly in English in a way that sounds like what you’re aiming for.

For server, any non-language-specific should work fine if you stick to EU – most people will use English, most of the time. Given you enjoy WvW I’d recommend looking at the higher ranked servers, as there might be more active & big WvW guilds there for you to hang out and talk with, which is what you want to increase your proficiency.

Good luck in finding a good home & feel free to PM me if you ever need a quick on the fly translation while you adapt or something :P

Good Day Ladies or Gentlemen!

Most people do, indeed, speak English on the regular EU servers. There are, of course, always some comments in other languages. Nearly all people speak English most of the time on the NA servers. It really comes down to preference.

I’m happy with my both servers, but so are my friends on others, so I cannot really recommend any particular one as better than others.

I would be honoured to communicate with you even though I actually enjoy the PvE game and fear PvP. Friendly whispers are always welcome!
