Simple question here. My brother and I are leveling together, and I just thought that a great way to level might be to go to Orr because A. The farming spots are events (so decent exp), B. There’s plenty of players so we wouldn’t be in danger of dying, and C. We’d hit 80 with a ton of gold, and could even use said gold to level along the way (via professions).

Is it possible?

Absolutely possible but I would be close to 80 if I were you anyway. You die easily there.

lol, no sorry. There are people that challenge themselves by running to Orr on new toons, I don’t think they enter combat anywhere though.
Enjoy the areas you can do, there are lots of events in several areas and they give the same exp you would get in Orr. You cannot get lvl 80 gear until you hit 80. The mats are the area level but you would be dead more often than not and repair bills would not be worth it.

Unless you get some guildies to run you there, you wont get there.

I remember early on taking one of my rangers into a zone that was well above his current level at the time, in an attempt to acquire some pet or other that was in that zone. It seemed like the critters there had a much larger aggro radius (if that’s the right way to describe it) for him than for a character that matched the zone level, but I don’t know if this is actually the case.

Anyway, he didn’t get very far.

ASFAIK it’s not possible.

You must be a certain level in order to get exp from those mobs.

So if you’re lvl 1 in Orr tagging lvl 80 mobs you will get nothing.

But if you’re lvl 60 you get a bit.

No, the mobs have a high chance to change aggro or throw an aoe. You will probably find yourself faceplanted not knowing what hit you. Even regular level 80s are having a hard time if not enough people show up.

I recently took a 73 to Cursed Shore with friends who were 80. I drew aggro from further away than usual, had trouble hurting the mobs and took a lot of damage if they managed to hit. I’ve also tried fighting a L80 mob on a L70 Guardian. It was barely doable (my hits did 1-2% of its health, its did 20-30% of mine) and took forever.

In most MMOs the thought is I’ll take my low level character into a high level area, thus I’ll get the high level rewards and level faster.

That’s not how it works in this game, you’re rewarded based on your level. So if you’re level 70 and go do events in a level 20 area you’ll get decent EXP rewards for those events and for discovering points of interests, vistas etc.

Also on that note, monster killing is what rewards least EXP in this game, so even if you were able to kill monsters above or equal to your level, don’t expect to get any levels fast enough just by that.

Fastest way to get levels is by crafting or playing WvW. Although in all honesty I recommend you to just play the game normally, you get levels pretty fast as it is.

Funny you should mention it. I was at shelt yesterday waiting for what seemed like hours for the next event to spawn, when what do I see run by but a naked level 11 character. I was going to congratulate her on getting there but she was gone before I could get a grats out.

What I would say to the OP is exactly what went through my mind seeing the streaker run by. Why would you ever want to level in Orr? You will have freahmeat aggro-status and will probably be pulling mobs from all adjacent maps. Since you can’t fight and win, you will spend a good part of your time dead which doesn’t sound like much fun to me.

If going to Orr means leveling faster, and that is your goal, and you have ~60g for crafting, you can get to 80 in about 5 hours. If you are gold poor, leveling itself is fast in this game. On my last character that I leveled traditionally it took around a week.

My advice is to go zone appropriate. There’s really no advantage, and many disadvantages, in attempting to level in Orr.

Go to WvW and join a zerg. You’ll level through the capturing events, and being scalled to 80, despite being a weak 80, will help you survive.

You also get too many glancing shots, so basically you won’t get XP from any players killing the enemies, because the damage you make would be so minimal (if any) that it won’t count towards the kill (0 XP). You would be getting more XP mapping the PoIs, WPs, SPs, and Vistas than through combat.

That said, you can level up pretty quick challenging yourself with maps JUST ABOVE your levels, but not too many levels up (ten levels difference can be too much) because of the reasons I mentioned above. Map them, and fight what you can, and level up quick without even touching Orr for the time being.
