Canach as micro-cosmos of game balance
At least a little while ago you could still apply conditions to him after hitting him with a caltrops or poison trap. The fight was insanely easy with my condition theif. Finished boss in under 2 minutes.
I ran this dungeon few times with lvl 2 characters which obviously didn’t have any stability/stun breakers and did fine. Just don’t position yourself between boss and a mine and dungeon is easy as pie.
Just noticed, that kinda rhymes lol

I know that people farmed it on lowlevels before it was patched, but this is not what this post is about.
I am not complaining that it is impossible to finish, I am saying that with a set amount of player skill (mine is quite mediocre…) different professions have completely different game experience in all PVE content (personal story, dungeons, fractals, events etc) some professions have it easy on a first time and some professions require an effort and understanding the encounter , and the same thing sums in this single solo dungeon
It’s an interesting observation OP and one that’s worth noting. The ideal thing to do would be to make Canach’s attacks immune to stability. Of course, you’d soon have some professions complaining about that.
Umm, I did it with warrior but didn’t use any skill at all, and it was still very, very easy. All blocks and stability would do is make it more boring. Also, in the way of the OP one could also reason that it’s unfair that warrior has higher base HP / armor.
again anet take all players complaints read them carefully and made sure to include everything that caused frustration and unbalance.
I m quite used to that at this point…
We say “hey warrior and guardians are too powerful” and anet release an expl boss that requires those 2 classes…..
Let see:
Immune to CC check
Need of insane dps (100b) check
invisible Attacks check
excessive boss CC into traps requiring stability check
impossibility to ress without banners/guardian check
a big thank you….i don t say anything else…i already heard comments by people online….
the soft enrage mechanics is the usual proof of how anet listen to players and how tests their istances…
do you even played once something that is not a 100b war and guard?
P.S: talking of the expl mode…
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.

I found it stupidly easy with thief and remove conditions in stealth trait. D/5, stand there healing in stealth trait, regen in stealth, and no conditions can touch me. This is more important in the exp mode than the easy storymode.

Hi ,
the necro and elementalist were also very hard; not only because lack of stability , blocks, and the long CD stunbreakers but also because the core class mechanics drops the mine detector on the floor
I can understand necro, but ele? all cantrips break stuns, and armor of earth grants stability. No more stability/stun break than a warr, in fact maybe more.
Spirit of Faith [HOPE] – RIP
I thought he was a very fun and unique (if a little easy) boss, and I commend the team who designed the encounter.
That said, as a mesmer, he was pretty easy. I made a lot of mistakes (dodge rolled into an explosive mine whoops) but I was able to rally twice and beat him in my first attempt. Part of this was expected: clones distracted him fairly well, for instance. But what was unexpected was that said clones still inflicted conditions on him. All those extra bleeds drastically reduced the challenge.
Although it was easier on my warrior compared to my ranger & mesmer, I certainly didn’t find single player mode “easy”. In fact was unable to complete with my engineer since she got killed several times and had broken armor.
My characters only recently reached level 80 and they have not been outfitted with any type of “max armor/weapons” They haven’t even learned all of their skills yet L
I guess I am not playing “correctly” as he would only take minimal damage from his mines and on occasion damage from me only one out of 10 hits thus taking me a significant amount of time to kill him. Since others are having an “easy” time of it, I’ll search youtube for the “correct” way to fight him. ;-)
When Canach kneels down, he sets off all the mines in the area, even the ones you “own”. Took me a couple of runs to realize that.
I just want to very quickly say: once you understand, how the mechanic works, it’s not difficult on ANY character with ANY gear, build etc.
I did it easily on all my toons, after struggling when I did it for the very first time, without using any skills whatsoever, just by using the mines in the dungeon to kill him. Dodge roll is your friend, use the mines and you don’t even have to play any different on any toon you are using.
the bomb trap1-shotted my thief, but on my warrior it just took70% or so
clones distracted him fairly well
Yes, I noticed this too. His AI apparently does not suffer from what I like to call ‘clairvoyance bug’ where mobs completely ignore clones and alsways spot the player. Would love to see that implemented into standard PvE so I can use my clones as actual confusion instead of just cannonfodder for shattering.

Once I figured out his tricks it was the same for me. It took a while, but my P/D was never downed once. I thought it was a fun little challenge.

Tarnished Coast – Still Here, El Guapo!
I found it really difficult on my Engi- which surprised me a bit tbh since I hadn’t read the forum.
So I brought my Mesmer and that was really easy.

I did it easily with my elementalist, just had to stay away, watch for his dash to dodge out of the way, it was like ballet! lol
My 80 ele had a *very*difficult time, my low level warrior was a cakewalk.
I also found it buggy as kitty cat, green traps that would explode on me. Green traps that Canach ignored. Canach knocking me back while I was dodgerolling, etc.

Did you try to go with ele bunker build? Im asking because i was doing it with my bunker ranger and my health never droped belove 75%.
I went full berserker staff (if that counts) in my ele, my health never dropped below 90%, maybe you should try keeping yourself away from the boss? I ranged the max I could and got no big problems dealing with him.
My P/P thief in zerker and cavalier gear breezed through Canach in 5 minutes flat. Didn’t get below half my health at any point during the fight. I’m really sorry to anyone that is having trouble though. My advice is just to keep your distance from any bombs whilst staying constantly on the move, and to time your dodges well. If it comes down to it, choose to get hit by Canach rather than stepping into a bomb, because he seems to do barely any damage.

This is very true, he was happily trying to take down my GS and Staff phantasms for most of the fight while I was busy disarming bombs and blasting him into them.
It is very much a “priory” type fight- read here gadgets and how you use them.
My Engi could get him into a sliver of dying but not quite for 3 failed attempts- Mesmer has an edge.
Take away stability and the solo instance is still very easy. His knock back is just a minor annoyance. This is probably just to get you used to the mechanic of the 5 man which can be unforgiving if you don’t know it.
Ran it three times, guardian, war, thief. The thief run was the hardest, though only because he doesn’t have perma regen going, or on-the-run shout heals, or insta condi removal/conversion.
It was still easy on all three, just by using his mines against him. All my chars have basically PVT armor. Zerker probably gets you killed here more easily.

I call this extrasensory perception aggro and have noticed it since launch. It’s the same experience for rangers. It’s one of those counter-intuitive aspects to combat in GW2 and glad to hear it’s more intuitive in this encounter.
