So I can’t use this dye gift. I have every dye unlocked that the dye gift offers, what am I supposed to do with it? Are you ever gonna add newer dye kit choices to this gift?

You can salvage for pigments now for scribing. It’s a free pigment – probably not as exciting as a free dye you can unlock, but still something!

The Celebratory Dye Pack allows you to choose one exclusive dye from any of its listed kits (or, for the four Zephyrite Color Swatches, any dye). There is no randomization involved: you can pick the specific dye you want. The selected dye will be account bound, except for dyes picked from one of the Zephyrite Color Swatches, which are unbound instead.

I’m saving mine, hoping that ANet adds some of the more recent dye packs to the list. I had everything except one of the shadow dyes (which was released before the 3rd birthday, so not sure why it didn’t make the cut).

The zephyrite swatches are an ok to monetize the gift. Or choose a rare brown for the pigments and enjoy the moment of salvaging something that (if you could sell it) could be worth a bundle.

tl;dr it’s not that you cannot use the gift; it’s more that the options aren’t as good for you (and e.g. myself) as it is for others

My guess is, since this was such a big hit with the players that they are going to repeat it each year and it’s the successive years that will get the new dye colors. If so, then the third year dye won’t be updated as that would make it the same as the successive birthday dyes.

Hmmm. Not surprised if they are now. There was some debate back in August about if that was a bug. Oh well.

Don’t hold your breath – they have released two new dye sets since it came out and they didn’t add them. Historically, once they make something like this, they don’t get around to updating it.

There are a number of systems in the game where little to no consideration was given to what might happen when maximalist players maximize.

Luck is the other looming problem – those of us with maximum magic find have found that 1/7th of our daily rewards are useless and worthless.

A luck eater or converter is long overdue.

One Spirit Shard per stack of exotic luck? That’s not going to shake anything up but it would give us a drain for the luck we’re drowning in.

That makes sense. Although, since it’s just one dye/toon, I hope they update the existing reward.

BTW: don’t get me wrong. I think this is probably the best birthday gift ANet has given (outside the limited chance of a Gwen or Kuunavang tonic). It’s a great option and a great value. I just wish I hadn’t been “too efficient” at collecting the limited-edition colors prior to the Shadow Dye set.

Again, there is a way to use the gift — you (and I) just don’t happen to benefit as much from the option as others who haven’t maxed out on limited-edition dyes (pick any dye, salvage it for pigment).

And I agree: it’s some kind of oversight; it’s hard to imagine ANet having done this deliberately. On the other hand, I also don’t see them prioritizing a change, since it only affects a tiny fraction of players and only in a small way.

Regardless, all we can do is wait it out. Either ANet will update the 3rd year option to include newer dyes and we’ll be able to enjoy the benefits or we’ll be stuck with the low-value pigment option. Either way, it’s still a great gift in general.

o.O I’m fairly sure the Glint Dye Pack wasn’t part of it when this was originally added, but it was definitely an option when I got another about a month ago.

The Glint pack was part of it. I know because the day this all came out I opened up the Dulfy guide to see what dyes were in what packs offered by the gift, previewed the heck out of them on my alts, and made a Word document listing my missing dyes in the order I’d like to get them. The Glint dyes were on that list.

My first five 3rd birthday alts were all made during headstart of the game, so there wasn’t time for them to add the Glint pack by the time I was picking my gift dyes.
