Canthan New Year?
•` _ ´• /
I think there was a dev response to this a while back – from what I remember the response was something along the lines of the Canthan population being diluted (as in those of Canthan descent are also of Krytan or Ascalonian descent as well) and there being more important things on peoples minds.
Basically I think the big reason is that they want to hold on to CNY for when they actually release Cantha.
Piddly excuse to abolish CNY… such a huge, elaborate festival that everyone loved. I wonder what the Asian populace thinks of this.. that there’s no CNY in GW2 but there is in GW?

That’s a complex issue – Cantha was a mix of Asian cultures, and considering Asia’s history quite often they don’t like being mixed up with one another. That is supposedly one of the initial reasons they scrapped the Canthan District from Divinity’s Reach – because instead of just being based on for example just Japanese or just Chinese architecture, it was a mixture which didn’t go down well and had the possibility of being seen as culturally insensitive.
That didn’t stop Cantha from being implemented, or indeed, if such issues occurred as above, scrapped, in the original game. Heaps of people miss places like Cantha (and Elona), regardless of the Asian subcultural issues pointed out.

How do you know Canthan new year is not celebrated in GW2?
I would assume it is still being celebrated in Cantha. Lions Arch and Kamadan decorated their cities and had a few small features available, but it was primarily celebrated in Cantha.

There’s no celebrations of it in this game (not anywhere in the known game, perhaps somewhere in the ‘diluted’ Cantha that’s yet to be re-released). No chances of celestial mini’s (this year is the horse), no 9 rings, no beetle racing. Granted they are two separate games, but I still believe Cantha should have it’s celebratory day in LA, as that so far is the only place that would have decorations up at least. I think this needs to be intervened by a loremaster.

So you have been to Cantha in GW2 and know that they do not celebrate it?
So tell us, how did you get there?
Instead of trolling, how about re-reading my last post.
PS: a brony took me there.

Trolling? OK, whatever you say. But I suggest you read my post as well and at least attempt to comprehend it before being rude/making irrelevant posts.
Sigh Guild Wars 2…. huge continent disappointment.
Where are our expansion packs already?
