I guess if there was a cap they may as well just remove them right? What would be the point once you reached max to do most of the stuff over and over? Also you would then just have a ton of people sitting at the number one spot on the highscores list thingy. Again, pointless having AP and that list etc.

That is not exactly true. Well developed and expanded AP system with a finite cap can still have large spread of scores, even at the top edge. The higher you get, the harder it gets to grab those still remaining to unlock. An example which uses considerably larger players pool from GW2 can be found here http://www.wowprogress.com/apoints/ This of course assumes that achievements would be expanded periodically in batches (like with expansions or large content patches). But even if they would not, we are still talking about a monumental effort to unlock them all. I mean, think about how long would it take to max out Legendary Champion. 14,973,500 rank points? Or those 1,000,000 dolyaks in WvW? Good luck!

What kind of limit do you mean?
A limit on the amount of APs you can get via Daily Achievements?
Honestly, I don’t feel the need for any limit on the amount of Achievement Points a person can earn in a given time.
What would such a limit achieve?
Truthfully, if I happen to have a good day, where I managed to get a lot of the Achievements on my Daily list done (beyond the 5 it takes to get the Daily Achievement done…) then darn it, I want all my extra Achievement Points!
I’m not a rabid AP chaser, and I don’t feel compelled to try and do /all/ the Daily or Monthly Achievements. They happen on their own for me through normal gameplay. But I see little benefit to effectively throttling back the amount of AP’s anyone can get over the course of a certain time period.

I was mainly posting from experience of seeing how it all worked out in Runescape when I played there. They have a cap on “skill Points” which basically cover all skills (which go up to 99 in each) as well as combat levels. In that game it is VERY VERY grindy and takes YEARS to reach max lvls (unless you cheat some how which some people do). Even then we saw the problem of people all sharing the number one spot so in the end they just made it the first person who reached there stayed there. Of course this changed each time they bring out a new skill and the gold rush starts all over again…

Very unhealthy playstyle believe me.

I think he/she meant a “total cap” so that once you did everything and reached that cap you get the sence you have “beaten” the game and can relax some and not worry about hunting down those new APs every 2 week patch.

Yeah better compare it with a achievement system of a completely different game instead of just comparing it with the predecessor of GW2 ;D

That’s funny I was under the impression that GW1 was the predecessor to this game? Also, WoW is a completely different game too. My point was in the game I mentioned that’s how it all turned out. So I am now guessing your point is that it can turn out another way perhaps as in the example above. I guess that makes both examples even and it would all come down to how Anet dealt with it right? That is unless my logic is totally up the shoot of course…

Can’t really compare GW2 to GW1. One of them isn’t even a traditional MMO.

which wouldn’t really help anyway, it would just flatten the leaderboard so that there’s thousands of player tied for first with whatever the cap value is.

They capped agent of entropy at 125 AP.
Why not cap daily/monthly at 1000 AP? or even 5000? I think some of the grinders are at around 8000 atm.

The difference between Daily and Agent of Entropy is that the Agent one could be filled infinitely in 1 day, as long as you have the gold, while the Daily you can only get about 11 AP per day, no matter or what.

at most ~4 clicks/second, 86,400 seconds/day, 200 salvages / tier, 2 AP / tier = 3,456 AP per day.
I was going to get into time to refill the bags, but in reality that wouldn’t be much of an issue (160 item slots x 250 stats = 40,000 salvages, so you’d only empty and refill them like 9 times in the day.
(macros are against the ToS, so anyone getting more than 3,456 should be banned)

HAHA yeah, but still, if someone do that 10 times slower and only 1/2 the day , it would be about 170 AP per day, much different than about 11 AP

If macros are against the ToS the ArenaNet has some explaining to do.

You can make macros, but only 1 action per button, so you can use the extra mouse buttons to bind some keys.

I’ve always wondered: why do they call them ‘macros’ if it’s 1 button = 1 action? shouldn’t it just be called ‘key binding’?

People usually call them macros because it use the “macro” feature of the mouse software, but you just use a really small macro.

Achievement Points are the equivalent to WoW Gear score so no. It would cause a huge catastrophe in the community.
