Capes... Again
I dunno.. I think there’s a proper Charr wisdom as to why they wouldn’t wear capes, and it’s not quadrupedal movement. Ever get a tie stuck in a paper shredder? Yeah, kinda like that, except now that paper shredder is a tank.
Or it could snag on a tree. Capes in a jungle? That’s tantamount to suicide by hanging.

It’s a game. If snagging was an issue in a game then running with deployed wings and spines acting as wind resistance and snagging on everything would be an issue too. At least with capes they don’t blind everyone around the player. Wings on birds don’t stick out all the time; they are neatly folded away until needed for flight.
The only game I’ve seen do capes right is LOTRO- their store-bought ones that look like cloaks. In other games I’ve played, they look like comic book super-hero capes. Pretty ridiculous looking. I’ve learned not to bother asking for capes as the results are usually disappointing and those resources would have been better used elsewhere.
Just no super-hero-looking capes please.
Just no super-hero-looking capes please.
A super-hero glider cape would be awesome. One with the player’s Guild logo on it.
I don’t get why anyone would want a cape. I know, to each their own and it’s a question of personal taste, still, why would I want to equip a piece of gear that covers almost everything of my char that is visible to me while playing the game? Why trade 8 pieces of flashy/pretty/epic attire for one?
I get the “but GW1 had capes and nostalgia and back in the days” approach, but maybe it’s time to move on. GW1 also had the disability to jump or dodge, want that back as well?(has nothing to do with capes, but not everything was better “back in the old days”, kind reminder)
If ANet made them cultural to all races but Charr, or made them Human-only, they’d invite themself to be kittenstormed for excluding the Charr from those new shinies or to beeing accused for pushing the “human(-female-) meta”.
At least it’s not a mount-thread.

Have a nice day.
At least it’s not a mount-thread.
True, but the subject has been (as have all the mount threads) beaten to death.
As mounts, capes are a No for me.
I vote for mounts. With capes.

Mounted capes.
But on the topic, i think a better compromise would be something like a scarf or large ribbon. Something fun to move with to make a little trail as you move, not overly difficult for devs to program and it’s not a cape. Plus it has a more modern chic than capes.

Okay, maybe you can have a cape after all.
Admittedly, my brain first went to, of all places, gliding with capes in Super Mario Bros. 3. I’d buy that glider skin so hard.

posted this idea a long way back, could be the solution imo.
Oh, yeah.. the no-dye issue. Kinda forgot about that. It’s weird enough that the Shining Blade backpack can’t be dyed but the glider can. Using both on the same character is kind of jarring.

Charr with a cape exists. Check out the dulfy link to the balthazaar outfit. it’s something they are capable of doing

I really really want capes too.

Just what I need, more view blocking items at jumping puzzles.

True, it looks REALLY stupid!
I’ve always wanted a Charr cape for my Asura. Its economical too, 1 Charr is probably enough for 10 Asura. Saves ammo.
No physics for that, game colision causes lag and fps drop, when theres to much detection being used for server side…
WE already have lag w/o it, due how spam based this game is, more stuff to load on server side would be a suicide.

Those spike and open wing backpacks that a number of players are running around with look stupid. Around popular merchants, bank and BL NPCs you can’t see anything because of those sticking out all over the place. At least with capes they just drape down instead of sticking out blinding other player’s view when the players are tightly grouped together. I wish there was a way to hide those awful things from my view.

On THAT I’ll agree with. (I’m the fire haired one in the middle)

“But I spent my jewels to make my character look cool, and I think I deserve that everyone sees it too.”
The amount of edgelords running around with face hiding hoods, black armor and those wings is amusing.
Lotro and Aion had decent Capes But I do like the scarf idea some one mentioned

I would not be offended if everyone got capes and Charr got scarves, to be honest.
I’m sure others would, though.
That, and I expect capes to interfere with mantles/shoulders, so maybe what we need are shoulders that double as capes? The Balthazar armor is an example of how to handle it without dealing with too-terrible clipping.
(I don’t get the reason for covering up the most visible part of the character with a cape, but I respect options. :P)

Why not have them — it’s just another option to a game that already has many wardrobe options.
Nobody here likes every option currently available, so not liking capes is not really an argument against introducing them into the game. Like other options you don’t like, simply avoid them.
