Capes incoming?
In the final version, its a skirt.
No thanks! That would mess up Fashion Wars and who would want that? XD

Darn a skirt won’t work. I wanted to be the asura Tyria needs but not the one it deserves.
Those are White Mantle. White Mantle have always used capes, I don’t think they’re hinting at them being player-usable now.
In the final version, its a skirt.
Unless you wear medium armor, then it is a trenchcoat.
they are coming just like those mounts did when we saw the frogs riding bugs in hot teasers
On second thought, who wouldn’t want a cool looking Asura Superhero!

This has been discussed many many time. Check it out with google. One example—3years ago. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Why-no-capes/first#post2031350
You can find many many many more.
ANet have said no capes, too many clipping issues with Charr, so blame them.

It’s just a recycled, touched-up old image. I wouldn’t draw any meaning from it beyond “white mantle” and “no new art”

Don’t cry, Signet of Mercy. Others may forget you, but I will always remember.
Our deficiencies may be overcome by practice and self-discipline.
The teaser picture has capes. Lost badge picture has cape. Can we expect capes to be with new LS armor?
Both of those images are from Guild Wars 1.
The first one is a White Mantle Knight the second is Concept art by Kekai Kotaki
I don’t think re-using artwork means they’re going to add capes to the game.

Add to that a simple google search: [hmmm, my link doesn’t seem to be working… just google search ‘capes gw2 forums.’ You’ll get a lot of results]
Redundant threads are redundant.

Sorry OP, but I have to agree with the others. More clipping would be bad.
It’s this time of the day again….

They could just get rid of the Charr altogether. A lot of my characters are Charr, and I would much rather have a cape than the Charr race
Adding capes to the game doesn’t mean there will be more clipping. Just choose armor pieces that don’t clip. And when it comes to weapons that are stowed on the back.. make options to hide weapon or hide the cape when for an example you stow a Greatsword. I’d choose to hide the Greatsword and leave the cape visible. But when you’re wielding sword with torch for an example, then let the cape be visible.
stop giving everyone a dress as an armor option and your problem is solved. be more creative with armor themes (robes, trenchcoats, robes on plate) and capes could be a thing.
As true as Odin’s spear flies,
There is nowhere to hide.

One human’s cape is another Charr’s Meatoberfest bib.

Personally, I’m not bothered by how many of the existing weapons clip right through my human and sylvari toons right now and I wouldn’t be bothered by cape clipping. And I also have my doubts that clipping is the real issue. #capeconspiracy
I think we need capes.
Back item skins like a plush charr or those family xxl barbecue skins are a complete joke.

Frankly, I don’t see how ‘Clipping issues with Charr" is a problem for Capes because they don’t seem to care about Clipping Issues on Charr in any other aspect of design.

Anet would be wise to listen to the playerbase. This topic has been brought up so many times that it would be idiocy not to listen.
If Anet ever released capes, there would be an avalanche of hate mail over the fact that the capes have clipping issues. There’s no way they can win this, it’s best to choose the path of least resistance.

The wonderful thing is that you can hide the capes. There you go. Path of least resistance.

If the capes are going to be hidden, then why bother to make them? Also, how would this stop the flood of hate mail over clipping issues?

1. Most, if not all of my friends want capes. I think it’s safe to say nobody cares if they clip or not. The capes in WoW clipped for years and nobody really cared. The cape clipping is getting fixed in the next WoW expansion. It’s been 12 years since the release date.
2. Adding an option to hide capes helps those people that don’t want to see capes, therefore making the clipping issues nonexistent. People that want capes get them, while people that don’t want them can hide them. Simple.

So you and six of your friends want capes. I don’t see how that’s a successful business plan. I can’t believe that absolutely no one cared about clipping of capes in WoW. Anet gets a lot of grief over armor clipping issues. If people complain about armor clipping issues, why would the give capes a pass?
Again, if the capes are just gonna be hidden, then why bother?

You missed my points, apparently. I’ll bold them for you.
-Capes CAN be hidden by THOSE PEOPLE that don’t want to see them However, since most people want them, it would be wise to insert them into the game.
- Most people, from what I can tell, really, really, really want them. When someone wants something really badly, they tend to overlook the mistakes in what they want. If cape clipping were such an issue and had people actively complained about it, Blizzard would’ve taken care of it 12 years ago. But they didn’t.
No capes before they give us swimsuits, okay? WE NEED SWIMSUITS FIRST.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
Most people, from what I can tell, really, really, really want them.
None of the people I know want capes. So do we design the game based on your data? Or mine? More importantly: how much effort would ANet have to put into adding capes? What other artwork would have to take a backseat?
Personally, there are 925 skin changes I’d prefer to see in the game before ANet spends an hour on capes. But if ANet has the data that more people would enjoy them, buy the next expac, or otherwise spend more on the game if they spend however many hundred hours… well, sure, then it would be a good business decision.
Anyhow, the OP’s question was whether capes were imminent and that’s been answered: no, there’s just some concept art out there.
I never wore my cape(s) in GW(1), and I have no desire for capes in GW2. I’d rather have the Devs work on something to play than something to look at.
Stated for the Devs’ consideration.
well my opinion in capes is why not more options for back items. simple as that.
Mogrey Norn Ranger [DS]
Could a Developer please just give an official answer on this? As far as I see this you have 3 options to answer, because being silent with this high demand of something is not an option anymore.
1. Yes, we will add them.
2. Maybe, we will look into it.
3. No, we will never add them.
Any developer want to answer this?

Very true. Also don’t blame Charr blame the people who created character models and animation rigging that can’t handle capes without terrible clipping.
Naa I would like the cape to be a back piece and as well showing your Guild emblem like the olde Guild Wars games.
I’m neutral about the idea of capes/clipping/whatnot, but honestly, I would much prefer the devs put their resources and time towards something else.

No person at Arenanet has ever stated that. Stop spreading misinformation.
The last thing that arenanet said anything about capes was something like: We are aware of the people that want capes but we dont have any plans for it atm. ( I beleave in one of those CDI topics before HoT came) Arenanet never said NO to capes.

Shouldnt forget to also mention that capes have been part of the GW2 art for 4+ years. There is a cape in the WvW loading screen for example.
those are from GW1. not gonna happen for GW2.

This was said by ANet very close to GW2 launch, as it was something we all asked for during the Beta’s. How do I know this? I was there I saw it and read it.
The reason was because the capes would clip through the charr as they ran.
But if you have proof that I’m not telling the truth, please feel free to show me.
