Did Anet ever give a reason for making carapace leggings not tradable for crests? 1000 crests took sometime to get but the drop rate on the boxes seems like crap, feels like I’ll be lucky to get another skin in 10,000 crests at this rate. Also the bladders randomly being in two pieces, I have one half of coppers bladder and now I constantly do the same boss trying to finish it to free up the inventory space. At least the bladder issue will be solved when bladder specific extractors are our. Why did they leave leggings to the RNG gods? I haven’t sent prayers to them in a long time and I feel it’s going to stop me from completely all these skins.

The legs are available. So are the boots if you receive a fairly easily obtained drop to enable them.

Edit I actually just used the drop, and I still can’t buy any leggings. Where exactly do you get them from?

The leggings are awarded for completing the No Refuge story instance. Like others, they can also be purchased from the vendor, but only after you complete that story.

I’ve found this to be the best method:

For legs: repeat the living story on another 2 mules after your main has completed the episode (so you get all 3 legs with ease – trust me, I tried with greater nightmare keys, I didn’t get a single leg box, and even opening 200+ bandit chests I got no leg box drop, so repeating the living story on mules for leg boxes is the best thing)

For boots: use your crests and buy up tons of bandit keys. With a well populated map, you can breeze through the chests. I got all my boot boxes from chests eventually, so this is probably your best bet here, being as you can’t get them from doing the living story episode. Buying boot boxes for 1g and 1000 crests is a waste, when you can get them from opening chests – and you make some money in the process, so it’s a win-win.

I still have a couple body parts I need (mainly the ones that require 2 of the same type to be grafted >_< and I have to rely on RNGesus for them), but so far this method has worked well for me.

Good luck

I guess the question regarding the boot boxes is this – do you feel lucky enough that you can get the boots with 200 keys? (1 key = 5 crests) I’ve spent about that and got one, so I guess I saved one gold + got all the loot from the banditchests. But some of my friends have been opening hundreds of bandit chests with no armor boxes.

So once you do the LS part where you get the legs, you can buy the boots with crests? Or you can get them as loot from chests? Am I understanding correctly?

To get boots with crests, you need to get the Boot Requisition Order from the event where you defend the skritt from bandits so that their tunnels remain open. After you get and use that item, you can purchase boots for crests.

You can also find boots in Lost Bandit Chests.
