Yesterday when I was going through content in Kessex, the number of bots I encountered interfered with my enjoyment of the game. Some of these were strings of bots following a specific path that would run through several event locations and would just stop to fight anything that they agroed. An apparently simpler bot would just run through a variety of attacks continuously while standing in an event location. Completing those events that were dominated by bots felt like all I was doing was contributing to the bot farmer’s project. It only mildly made me feel any better to report the 20 or so that I ran accross, before I tired of trying to keep track of which ones I had already clicked on and which ones I hadn’t yet reported.

Ok, I did get one bit of enjoyment out of it. It was amusing to see the herd of a dozen ranger bear pets bounding down the path. But then I realized it wasn’t some guild group just trying to be fun/funny.

Bots and farmers hidden in the corners of the game still do their damage, but when they are allowed to openly disrupt gameplay it seems like something more than just user based reporting should be being done to stop them.

But, then again I don’t really pay attention to what OTHERS are doing in the game I’m playing MYiii game when I’m playing and don’t really CARE what OTHERS are doing.

It is not whine, Mr. Fanboy. If you haven’t seen any bot, then you haven’t played at all. There are a huge number of bots ranging from the starter zones farming skales to high-end zones farming events with longbows. Each zone has about 20 to 30 bots right now, teleporting around and disrupting people’s gameplay.

I wouldn’t be surprised if ravenhood has a bot himself, why else would he so fiercely defend this pratice?

Every server has bots. Of this I am 100% certain. They get smarter and harder to curb with each patch Anet seems to release, and I’ve been getting more and more mail a day from gold sellers. It’s ridiculous.

I got a bunch of teleporting ones up on youtube today. They aren’t exactly subtle.

You cannot be CERTAIN of this unless you have played on EVERY SERVER…..I highly doubt you have and don’t give me you have friends on every server because I won’t believe that either. lol

I haven’t even gotten a spam email on my server.

I saw some today, all grouped up standing in one spot, non stop killing while one guy loots.

FYI I’ve just finished completing all the 1-15 maps on my server and didn’t see a single character which was an obvious bot.

So anyone saying “it’s the same on every server” or “everyone has seen it” is just making assumptions.

@Jetsunhi(why does the quote button keep disappearing). There is nothing of note to farm in lv1-15 zones besides copper and jute, and their prices pale in comparison in to the T5 and T6 mats the bots are farming in Frostgorge Sound/Cursed Shore. Bots are gonna farm where the money is it, not spread out across every single zone and farm everything for not as much profit.

I find it funny that there are players who would deny that anything could ever go wrong in this game. You see it in every post, good or bad.

Sometimes there are issues that need to be addressed. You can’t just stick your head in the sand and say “No that’s not true!”

Ive transfered a few times onto high medium and low and yes there are bots on all of the servers.Most will transfer to higher pop servers however before the free transfers are stopped.

Quite frankly I’m impressed with how fast the different bots are coming along,some actually had me check em out a second time to make sure they were a bot. lol

Rumour has it in botter circles that fully functional PvP bots will be out soon,much better than the current bots in WvW.

Anyone that says bots dont hurt anyone,obviously are ignorant of the damage bots do to games or bot users themselves.

I’m an ex bot/multiboxer user from years back and the one thing I can telll is,we dont contribute to a games health if that game isnt built around bot/maco use.

But yeah,I digress,it’s getting way blatant,especially in the 1 to 15 and 15 to 25 maps.

Game needs server GMs doing daily perma bans if Anet are even thinking about curbing this.because at this rate it isn’t looking so good for non bot players.

@minikiller: Im glad your singleplayer experience is paying off,and that you really don’t pay atention to anything except what you are doing.

Yep, genuine players get ground into dust by the anti-farm code while bots prosper. Instead of doing what’s right and simply swing the ban-hammer all around, they put this mechanic in place which actually affects normal players, but not bots; thus, they can claim they have taken anti-botting measures even if those measures had no effect. This is what they call innovation in the genre.

Well truth is bots don’t bother me at all. I’m not out to get E-pee-n points or rich and if they make a lot of gold good for them it doesn’t bother me in the least. Never seen so many miserable people who get all worked up over what “other” players do. They don’t keep me from leveling, they don’t keep me from getting good quality loot and they don’t keep me from lvl 80 content…….what’s the beef?

I report bots nonstop and yet they remain. If they remain much longer I won’t, simple as that. Which is a shame as I enjoy the game otherwise, but I have 2 level 80s and not a gold between the two since the bots have caused antifarm codes to ruin money making ability. I’ve played Everquest since its launch 13 years ago and don’t recall ever seeing a bot there, why are they so abundant here?

Mainly because Everquest is pretty much dead and the bot farmers/gold sellers always make their profits off of NEW games. EQ doesn’t have a large enough population to support gold farming it anymore and it’s a whole lot easier to make plat in EQ now than ever before.

Because thirteen years ago when botting and multi boxing Everquest we were discreet and werent doing it for profit (in game or out),plus most used very basic functions as EQ was easy for multiboxing a full party,so hardly anyone noticed except other boxers.

Wasn’t that many doing it back then either.Mainly just people like me that needed to play catchups on our friends because of work hours.

You have no clue what you are talking about. Everquest is the only title that has lasted 13 years and is still going (yes its not as large). There has NEVER been bots farming around. Anyone suspected of gold farming got banned if proven as well. Everquest was also one of the most populated games for many years. If you truly want to defend botting or defend apathy towards botters then I agree with the above poster.

So, what zone do they hang out in so I can keep an eye out for them? So it’s clear I am in no way denying the existence of bots, just saying that so far they have not effected me more than a couple of mails / chat messages. I’ve not had to deal with them stealing my mobs, etc.

I haven’t seen any bots myself yet, but I can’t fathom how the presence of bots is actually being denied.

To those who think that minding your own business is the thing to do, and that bots don’t affect you if you don’t bother with them, you are unfortunately incorrect. Any player on a server with bots is affected somehow, either through the bot pouring money into the economy that has no business being there or gaining an unfair advantage over others with acquisition of crafting materials, et cetera. Because this is an MMO, anything any player does has an effect on the other players.

In fact, botters have ALREADY had an effect on every single player on the game. If you enjoy farming, you can’t do that anymore, because after a certain number of kills, your drops fall to almost nothing.

The very fact that ANet felt the need to take that drastic of a step PROVES that there are too many botters.

You don’t have to believe the game is perfect to like it. I very much enjoy Guild Wars 2, and yet I find certain things to be extremely annoying. There are many things that need to be fixed with the game, and botting is one of them.

I see them farming the centaur bridge event in Kessex Hills all the time on Sea of Sorrows.

Most of them are using simple macros and spamming one attack over and over again, the rest are using more complex bots with teleport hacks.

I report as many as possible every time I go past but I don’t know how long it’s going to take Anet to go through what I imagine must be a huge number of reports.

I’ve seen several bots myself, one farming moas for some reason, one farming windriders in an early Asura area.

Since Anet can’t be bothered to do anthing about the problem I took the law into my own hands and fetched a ton of nearby spiders. Choo choo!

Yes it is a whine, so what? “bots … interfered with my enjoyment of the game.” Being a game I presume the developers are interested in feedback on issues that effect the enjoyment of the game. The greater the number of people that enjoy the game the more opportunities they will have to create new content.

I’m happy for you players who either haven’t seen the bots, and even those players who don’t find bots monopolizing an event as disruptive. Normally if I don’t feel like I made a reasonable contribution to an event, I’ll wait for that group of players to leave and help with the next group of players that show up. This is pretty futile/discouraging when its just the same group of bots over and over.

True I don’t like bots and farmers (nor those that encourage them by paying for their service) in general, but at least “bots and farmers hidden in the corners of the game” don’t “openly disrupt gameplay.”

The most disruptive bots I encoutered were in Kessex Hills, both the event at the bridge and another event in a town not far from the bridge. The heard of bots was following a fixed looping path that covered both these event locations.

Go to the human area level 15-25 by a bridge south west of a waypoint below a town on the western side of the map. There’s about 20 bots there spamming, waiting for the event to restart.

So needless to say gems for gold hasn’t done a thing to stop any of this nonsense. I’m confused about why Anet is taking so long to break out the ban hammer.

And if you’re one of those fools who paid $300 USD to someone else who will play the game to 80 for you, I hope you get caught in a bot banwave and never get yourkittenaccount back.

You got to be joking ! ! ! Selling gold spam goes on all day over chat and at higher Levels their at every key point. Has completely ruin what was one of the best games I ever played . At level 80 maps they must make up 70% players on.

I dont blame it all on them its also the players who buy from them as well . Need more proof ? Go on the auction and anything thats 10x higher then it should be that’s them. Got spam from them explaining how they get around the rules selling gold to you.

AreaNet made a great game ! Those A*******’s are bringing it down . especially the end game.

I used to run a bot program with Aion and it was insanely complex.

I could map out a whole path for my character, block out certain areas to avoid, even list names of mobs to attack and stay away from.

I even had waypoints listed so my character would mine specific resource nodes.

I am sure 3 years later bots have gotten a little more complex, but yes, I recognize bots almost instantly the way they move and fight and they are everywhere especially the mid level zones.

Yes, they do exist, lets not stick our proverbial heads in the sand people. I already noticed people botting in the following locations: Steeleye span, northeast entrance of Zintl holy grounds, outside the United Arcanist research lab…(group of ranger bots all with same guild tag that run the same path over and over) pretty sure there are more that I haven’t noticed yet. I report them always. Lets hope they bring out the banscythe before it gets worse… that dhuum thing was good for publicity was it not?

On the BlackTide server, you can see two bots currently teleporting around to every mob in the river near Western Divinity Dam.

I reported both and recorded a short video just in case evidence is ever needed. Although i saw these bots there a couple days ago as well so hold little faith in anything being done any time soon.
