I know this’ll be a very unpopular suggestion, but for old folks, we really need a cash shop item ($5, $10, maybe even $20), that would allow us to click on a vista and say “I got that one”, without actually having to spend hours trying to do it. I’m pushing sixty, and this super mario bros. BS can get pretty tiring in an MMO RPG.

Why would you pay $20 for one vista?

You could look up a youtube video for vista completion in the area you’re in and watch for the vista you need.

At sixty years old $20 for him might be the equivalent of $2 for someone else.

I feel your pain. I despise jumping, and especially how much in GW2 is gated behind jumping.

If you’re in NA region, Zealots of Shiverpeak and ROFL do map clear runs, including portals at vistas.(ROFL is doing Wayfarer Foothills next Tuesday) I’m sure there are more guilds that do map clear, those are just the ones I know about. If you’re in EU, there are certainly guilds who do map clear runs there as well.

And +1 to Ballistic’s point about videos. They can be quite helpful. I find some of my difficulties with vistas and JP’s are not really knowing the proper path to jump, or missing little tricks that aren’t apparent to me. You can also just sit for a while and watch other people do those vistas that you’re having difficulty with. I find that helpful as well. I recommend videos by AyinMaiden. You can find plenty of them on youtube.

Lastly, it’s best to be in a medium to small sized character for jumping. If you’re in a Norn or a Charr, you might want to get a permanent tonic that will transform you into a smaller form. Or a cheap tonic that you can buy a lot of. (though not all tonic forms can jump)The various Wintersday toys can jump, as well as the various quaggan. There’s also a shrinking tonic available on one of the new LS S3 maps.

Honestly, it depends on the situation. There are some areas that I find it far easier to jump as a Norn (since I can see the destination more easily). Caves are easier on Asura (since the camera wigs out less often).

Having a tonic that allows you to change form (and still jump) is a great idea; it’s the best of both possibilities.

That said: my hope for the OP remains that they ask for help whenever they’d be willing to pay ANet cash for an unlock.

I agree with the suggestion to ask for help or find a guild/group doing guided ‘tours’ of maps for completion.

A lot of vistas aren’t actually as tricky as they seem. More than once I’ve wasted 20 minutes trying to scramble up a pile of rocks or get onto a cliff behind it to drop down only to later realise there was a simple path with only a few basic jumps leading in from another direction.

There are also a few which do require some careful jumping, including some which are part-way up a jumping puzzle. But there’s usually mesmers around to help with those, especially when the puzzle or the map’s events are part of the daily achievement.

I’d actually suggest that you absolutely, positively can pay for the vista: offer gold for a port, if you can’t get one otherwise. Somebody might be unwilling to switch characters for free, but I’ll bet that it is less than $20 worth of gold to convince them to do so.

Heck yes, anyone needing a vista portal and willing to pay 20$ for it can pm me in game anytime. I’ll hop on my mesmer and portal you to any vista in the game for some easy money!

But to the original points, just ask. I have been helped out by mesmers casting portals for free plenty of times. They usually take a donation if you feel generous but usually willing to do it just to help.

I agree with the suggestion to ask for help ingame or from your guild rather than asking for a gemstore purchase to buy part of map completion (and all the controversy that an item like that would cause). While you might get some snarky l2p responses, many people are willing to stop and help out another player.

I didn’t know such a thing was possible, I’m pretty noob-ish. I’ve played casually, mostly on my Elementalist.

I just did world completionist on my Elementalist yesterday, and, to be honest, I didn’t find any of the jump vistas too bad. A few annoying ones, but more a matter of figuring out where to go than the actual mechanics.

What prompted this post was this one vista in Dry Top, it takes awhile just to get to it, and if you fail, you usually die. It wouldn’t be so bad if you had a re-spawn point right there, but you don’t. That adds greatly to the frustration factor.

By in large, mesmers tend to be helpful towards anyone in need of a portal, whether it be for acheivements, collections, jumping puzzles etc. Most tend to volunteer their services anyway where notorious challenges exist, but I’m quite sure many will reply and assist should they be available/free on the map.

For some of those I think I may have gone back and gotten those after I got the glider. That also makes some vistas a lot easier. I have had the glider for awhile on my account so I forget how deadly a mistake can be on a few of those. With the glider, if you make a mistake and miss, at least you can glide safely to the ground and try again.

There’s a permanent tonic you can buy in Lake Doric which shrinks your character to the size of a miniature (actually about half a head taller, but anyway) – jumping easy mode for charr and norn! I use it just to make running around feel a little bit faster, especially since my norn is my guardian and doesn’t have any passive speed boosts yet (not buying centaur runes or whatever while leveling).

I now slightly regret making my mesmer a charr instead of an asura, because she’ll never be the pinnacle of mobility and jumping puzzle dominance that asura mesmers can achieve, BUT at least I’m not giving people a false sense of hope when they see me. I’m just as lost and clumsy as they are, following Youtube videos sometimes jump by jump.

I can’t speak for the OP, but it is actually physically difficult for me to do jumping puzzles. Doesn’t stop me struggling through them, but … I usually take the portal on, eg, Morgan’s Leap after falling off the first three or four times … before I get to the top of the first tower.

Is that the one in Southsun? I have never got to the top of that one legitimately. I always make myself at least try a few times, but I eventually end up getting ported up there.

I’d pay for an item to unlock all the same spots on a different character. Just don’t give the rewards except world completion.

No. No rewards at all, including World Completion if you pay to unlock instead of playing the game to unlock, even if playing the game means getting a portal from a Mesmer. I don’t want World completion to be an “open your wallet and buy” sort of thing.
