The community and game seem obsessed with the idea that you should have to work hard to get your rewards.

Therefore, I propose that if you purposefully handicap yourself by playing in lower quality gear, you should get better rewards, as you’re having to play at a higher skill level.

Particularly in GW2, higher power gear makes content easier, meaning those who want better gear are admitting they can’t play the game without the crutch of increased stats.
Those who have top-end gear want to feel superior than those without it, even though technically they’re not playing at the same skill-level.

Mmm, yeah, not touching this topic any further than this post. It should be noted as a ranger who has weighed my play and skill level, and uses PVT (Soldier) gear to avoid getting knocked around pretty harshly . . .

But, according to those in the know, I have no place in the game at all.

Better rewards such as in better gear? Kinda a contradiction. Unless you means money or karma, in which case prepare yourself for every single player with a legendary or ascended gear complaining about how much ANet is punishing them.

I’m grinding for the BiS item because I like to have a goal in the game, and it’s pretty much endgame unless I have one. Does that +4.7% difference in stat really make me an elitist?..

As Mungrul points out, the players who have multiple legendaries, ascended etc have the easiest combat in the game. Therefore making them as far from the best players as possible. The best players are those who do the same content without all the window dressing.

I’ve had an idea for an MMO for a while where players would actually start out at the highest power level, and as they levelled up, have typical MMO trappings and conveniences removed from them, replacing them with skill based mechanisms. For example, you’d start out pressing a hotbar icon to activate a skill, and at some point you’d have to learn how to reproduce that skill through a series of well timed button presses and combinations.
Then you’d look at high level characters who statistically would be the worst off in the game, but you would KNOW they’ve earned every last level.

Well now you’re wrong. Of course it’s easier to fight in exotics than to fight in greens or blues; but that doesn’t mean that someone who usually fights in exotics is less skilled than someone who usually fights in greens. The person in exotics could maybe do better in greens than the person who always wears greens. What tier of gear you’re wearing doesn’t tell anything about how skilled you are; it just means the fights are a little bit easier for you by default.

Lol; I certainly need to check that next time I’m there! Though, it may be that I’ve already seen it once… not sure. Anyway; I’ll take a look for sure!

Did you happen to notice what color and breed the cat was? I seem to remember seeing what looked like a greyish brown tabby in that area. I wonder if it was the same one. I can’t remember if I saw it chasing a rat or possibly a mouse. This warrants further investigation.

I’ll go try to find it and post a screenshot if I do. I can’t recall if I’ve ever seen a pigeon in game but if I come across one I’ll be sure to report back here as well.

Wish me luck.

You missed the point. Imagine if your car is in auto-pilot, when your auto-pilot goes down, you’re the worst driver in the world — since you’ve been accustomed to have the driving done for you — compare to a driver who drove their own car every time.

I think the point here is experience. With high end gears, you are less likely to use your skills, thus you’re not improving your play style and not gaining a lot of player experience.

So you mean to tell me that you can’t afford Yellow (rare) gears? Don’t be ridiculous.

I have full rare gears from Order of Whispers before I even have my hand on Exotic gears, and yes, I ran dungeons with them just fine.

What I’m saying (and you’re apparently ignoring, so I’ll explain it again) is, that having better gear doesn’t make you a worse player. Having worse gear requires a bit more skill for the same content as having better gear does, but it does not mean that someone with better gear automatically has lower skill. In fact, it’s very possible that someone with better gear also has higher skill. He NEEDS a bit less skill than the person with “bad” (meaning lower rarity, like greens instead of exotics) gear, but he still can have the same or even more skill than the bad-geared person.

Perhaps this is why we don’t see many Tengu about too (more related to the title than the first paragraph :P)….
