Celebration of 10th anniversary...
I’m sure they have lots of other things to be getting on with than celebrate 10 years of the Guild Wars Franchise. Be happy we’ve got a contest
I am seriously hoping there is more to this anniversary. The only things that have happened is a random draw for cool prizes, and new Black Lion Weapon skins. Both of which are all about RNG… which is no fun at all seeing as RNG only blesses the lucky few…
Coming from a player who started playing GW1 from the very beginning, this is a rather disappointing and lackluster way to “celebrate” a tremendous milestone.
And if they added in a huge celebration people would rage about them “wasting resources” that should rather be put in fixing issues or working on the expansion.
Yes, it is cool that the series started 10 years ago, but is it really worth “wasting” time that is better spent elsewhere just to celebrate it?

If people want to celebrate 10 years of GW1, they should go play GW1. They even introduced a new set of weapons, and you get them by replaying missions in different regions of the game (letting you re-live areas from the past). Plus, they have their typical anniversary month stuff going on now, too.
I think the acknowledgement Anet has done in GW2 (the weapon skins) is good enough since this is its own game.

They could have opened the Pavilion, or SAB, or something. Fun events for which they already have everything created (and locked away for special times). Not really “wasting resources” if they are reusing content/coding from the past…

What I am getting at is that it is rather insulting that it is more Cash Shop related stuff, and not something that everyone can enjoy for free. I can’t possibly consider wasting money on those stupid keys. Every time I do, I get stupid boosters and repair canisters… it is a lame gamble based on useless RNG garbage.
Edit: Don’t get me wrong. I’m not trying to be self-entitled or whiny here. With HoT around the corner, it is understandable that nothing is happening because it is a pretty big deal. But it still would have been nice to have something else to do while we wait, right? For example, the SAB’ers are constantly requesting SAB be re-opened… so why not?

My point is, in GW2 we are celebrating everything.
Some examples: Queens Jubilee, China Release, Lunar new year, Victory over Scarlet. Don’t know if there was more, but these are the celebrations i remember.
I’d love to celebrate 10th anniversary of GW History in GW2 and actually expected something in this direction. I didn’t expected something new “wasting resources”, just a tiny bit of festive atmosphere
Would be nice if the Crown Pavilion would open up later on. Time will tell.

Except for the fact that they would still have to spend time and resources to make sure it would still work after all the work on the engine since they were last used.

Granted they would have has to update things like SAB or the Pavillion. But it’s not like the anniversary was sprung on them at the last minute. Unless people are saying the company was unaware all year that this year was the tenth, it doesn’t make sense to me that they couldn’t have done something to celebrate in this game. It’s the 10th year of the franchise and this game and it’s players are part of that too.
ANet may give it to you.

Their resources were obviously busy pricing things
Celebrate ten years of loyalty to Guild Wars by buying more GEMS™ in the GEMSTORE™ today! Congratulations!
I can’t complain too much since they did some nice things for us in GW1.

And yet the latest engine changes were probably rather recently (the latest we saw were the camera and such), which means that they would have to check it after that. Not to mention all the likely changes going in behind the scenes in preparation for HoT.

Yes, yes, there are engine changes. You’ve said it several times. An important anniversary that they knew for a long time was coming up and they couldn’t have budgeted the resources towards coping with these engine changes alongside their other projects? They are a big company now with hundreds of trained employees and this should be something they can figure out how to allocate resources for it, since they had a good year to do so.
No, the real answer isn’t “engine changes.” The real answer is lack of desire on their part.
ANet may give it to you.
You are assuming they knew half a year ago every single engine change they had to do in order to get HoT to work. That is rather seldom the case.
The only thing they really could realistically have done would have been to plan HoT around a potential 10th anniversary celebration, and that would probably be one of the worst decision they had ever made.

They updated the celebration in Guild Wars 1. They budgeted money and people to make the changes for a game that’s on life support, so abandoned by the company that a support ticket can take 2 or 3 months to process. They did that for a game that’s been pushed to one side for almost 3 years, yet they couldn’t budget a team of people to make a celebration in this game or update old content and include in their budget the ability to handle engine changes?
Claiming “engine changes” is saying that no content ever can be released because there will be engine changes, yet content is released. The Pavillion was designed and released without problems with engine changes. SAB was designed and released without problems with engine changes. Why, all of a sudden, does engine changes stop a celebration from being designed and released? They had a year to budget people to work on and release it.
You are saying engine changes, but it’s not the real answer.

Agree with OP. Expected more from this celebration.
