Is it really necessary to have time-gated materials (charged quartz crystal) involved in crafting this gear? It seems like a cool set that could produce some interesting builds, but in order to test it out I’d have to spend months charging crystals.

I wanted to try it out on my elementalist, but I guess I’ll have to settle for trinkets only as the armor and weapons are ridiculous to craft due to this requirement. I’m not going to waste all that time and effort just to experiment!

Any chance we can replace this with something else or perhaps remove the time gate from charged crystals?

Start charging them now, so the next time you get the urge you will already have some. I started months ago and have plenty for ascended armor in all three weights, and just keep charging more.

But yeah, you’d think the other 1/day limits would be enough.

Oh no! 60sec a day for a month! That’s like 30min of your life!

Oh no! 60sec a day for a month! That’s like 30min of your life!

The problem is the amount of time that it ends up taking to be able to get a full set of Exotic armor, not the fact that you have to go and create the materials. Having to wait a month before you can use a full Exotic Celestial set is just ridiculous

so don’t wait a month?

mix and match select gear types will come pretty close to creating the effect a celestial build brings and since its for testing… tada

Yeah, I could do those things, and maybe I will. It doesn’t change the fact that it doesn’t have to be this way and there’s really no good reason for it, if you think about it. But if you enjoy saving mats for months to make an exotic set just to test out a sub-optimal build you’re certainly welcome to your opinion! Suffice it to say that I disagree.

I’m not seeing where you resolved the issue of all past players who actually spent the time to get what they wanted and how you are going to make it fair to all of them if you remove the time delay.

How about updating the recipe to reflect the new stats?

Just let charged quartz be tradeable and the problem will disappear. People could wait a month to get the set if they didn’t want to buy crystals, or they could go make one right away

Another thing people ALWAYS forget is that by removing the time gate on charged quartz they will cause a price spike in quartz. There is very little quartz being added to the game, if you remove the time gate the tp will dry up pretty hard because of the other recipes using it.

Supposing everyone agrees that it’s a bad mechanic. Then isn’t it better to fix it rather than forcing everyone who comes later to suffer the same issues? Fairness is a good reason to re-balance rewards or builds; it’s a bad reason for not fixing something that’s broken.

In this particular case, I’ve yet to see anyone, even from ANet, defending the practice of binding plus time gating for celestial recipes. Without one or the other, the value of quartz crystals would drop probably to vendor trash, but it’s hard to understand why both are needed.

I think the main reason ANet hasn’t adjust it is that it’s more than a little development cost for something that most people only suffer through once — after you realize there’s a time gate, you tend to store up enough charged quartz so you don’t have to wait again. In other words: tiny benefit for the small (but significant) cost.
