Are celestial builds any good or would it be a waste compared to zerk or sin or any other really? I know it mainly depends on build s but I am thinking of trying a hybridish mesmer and was thinking of celestial to have a little of all the stats. Any thoughts? I wanted to use confuse and S/S with staff for kiting and thought having a lot of the stats would help because I could survive and deal damage as well. Thanks for any input.

Pve or wvw? Sounds like WvW, but I can’t be sure.

In pvp Celestial is great if you build to use it properly.

Pve, you waste stats too much, better off with Sinister/zerker type builds and just learn to avoid things on your own accord.

Pvp yes, wvw yes, pve not optimal, better mixed with other things or playing more strict damage.

I find a lot of players fall into 2 camps, either they play as optimal as they can, meta, zerk, looking up builds, focus on clearing content fast and efficient e.t.c. Or they have a more relaxed stance, experimenting with their own (non-optimal) builds, don’t care as much for speed (in dungeons for example) as long as they enjoy it/have fun.

Of course there are those that fall in between but I think you’ll understand what I’m talking about.

P.S. Either “camp” does not automatically mean the player is skilled/bad. There are skilled/bad meta players and there are skilled/bad relaxed players.

Personally I fall into the latter camp. I would not enjoy the game if I didn’t have the freedom to experiment with different builds, even if they’re non-optimal. My first character was a guardian and people said I should go zerk for pve. I did but I did not enjoy it at all. Even if it goes fast I don’t have fun playing him. But my second character which is a Necro with my own custom build that has dual daggers + celestial is so much fun to play. Obviously I try to make my builds work as much as I can. But to me it is not important if it takes 5 minutes longer to clear a dungeon. Don’t worry, I never try and join zerk/meta lfgs.

I think you should think about what is more important to you, is it to be “the best” possible, guided by already established builds/tactics, clearing content fast. Or would you enjoy the game more if you had the freedom to experiment but at a cost.

Just some final words to think about: I rather play with a skilled custom-build player than a bad meta player. Please note that I’m not trying to bash meta players, if that’s what you enjoy, go for it. I’m just trying to balance the scale a bit.

I’ve been using celestial on mesmer in WvW since celestial release…

It was easy to win 1v3 before big patch, but now it’s just silly how much pressure you can apply from stealth after the patch…

I mostly play for the new Free-For-All arena in PvP lobby.
….. And Elementalist.
