Hey everyone, the gemstore was updated today with the Chain Whip Sword and the Mad Scientist Outfit for 600 and 700 gems respectively.

The Chain Whip Sword only has the whip animation on certain sword abilities so it will act as a standard sword on some attacks and a whip on others.

Here are some pics and videos for those interested: http://dulfy.net/2015/05/26/gw2-chain-whip-sword-and-mad-scientist-outfit-now-available/

it’s like ivy’s sword from soulcaliber – I wish the outfit wasn’t so hulky & was a little slimmer on humans. WELL, atleast an outfit looks better on charr & asura than humanoids for once.

I was about to buy the chain whip, but I’m glad I watched the Dulfy video first. The whip part is virtually non-existant. Certainly not enough to warrant such a high price tag for it.

I’ll mull on it

The two professions I would have used the chainwhip with are the two professions that get more ‘sword’ than ‘whip’ (Thief / Warrior)
for 600 gems, I’ll pass.

If they whip it good, I may reconsider.

well.. to be honest i expected a bit more…“oomph” from the chain whip… but then again i sorta like it anyways, i bought it and ill certainly use it in the near future. 7/10 on that one.. cause i did expect the chain effect to be somewhat “longer”. Outfit clearly had to be an outfit…isnt like thats just a medium armor skin like any other from the way its “split” eyeroll

Anet just change it already so you can wear any kind of headgear with outfits. You would make more money and make more people happy.

Honestly that what makes it sooooo good on Charr. Won’t look silly and be clip galore (much like that medium wvw coat and temple that looks similar), and it brings some more variety to the large amount of long tench coats. It why the magitech medium armor is so nice, and I hope to see more of these shorter lengths in HoT. Really great looking on Charr overall; I probably have it as a new main look for my memser.

I keep hoping for some less busy outfits and armor.

When almost every single medium armor chest piece is a long coat, you yearn for some sort of variety.

There was a lot more variety in GW1 in design. I hope we get some of that back in 2 soon.

Here is a list of bad things with it that I would like to be fixed… If nothing changed with this weapon (B.c CANT PREVIEW in game before you purchase it) I will have to write a ticket for a refund.

  • Most autos dont work (if not any)
  • Due to classes color swing, cant see on most skills that it does actually work for.
  • Asura is almost not even visible.
  • The overall animations are small… way to small
  • The sword for a whip is very short… animations dont go past the color of the swing.
  • The animation isnt on all Slashing skills (Thief S/P #3 compare to Thief S/D #3 b.c It doesnt have a Slashing Animation)

After testing it out on all classes.

Thief PW, Warriors F1 and Guard 3 are for sure the best.
Ranger…. oh ranger is by far the Worst, If I main ranger I would ask for refund right away.

Over all Anet… Please fix this ATROCIOUS Gem store weapon.

Try and keep feedback subjective. It is not “atrocious”, that is the wrong word to describe this in so many ways. I’m not a big fan atm, but it’s a long way from being as bad as described.

Also, why not use one of the 2 existing feedback threads on the front page?

But its a Chain-whip so it will and should Whip on ALL SLASHING animations.

It doesnt need to be giant, it needs to be visible. There is a Difference. Your on a Norn, go try it on any small Races or heights of Asura, Human, Sylvari, on my Sylvari Mesmer I cant even see the animation at all due to how small it is and how large the Color from attacks are (the purple color). And why even have a weapon skin with an Animation if it doesn’t even do that animation? Looking at you Ranger.

Keep in mind that if Anet do the changes OP want’s some other player might not like it and want a refund. Sorry Faux.1937 but I think you should be prepared to ask for a refund then.

One shouldnt have to look outside of game for info on a Gem store item is what Im saying.

I know dulfy had it, I looked. But when you mix and match different Races with Different Classes you get combos that makes it even harder to see the animations.

It should be as visible for each race and each class as each other.

I agree with you, I was speaking about that with my guildmates earlier in TS when I looked at the sword in game. I was saying that a Preview in store would be nice. And yes the store peview should allow you to choose race and atleast a few animations so you can see that it works as we imagine it too and so stuff do not clip. Anyway… To clearify my intent here… um… I realized I made it sound like I was happy about the sword but I am not. I agree with your OP but I think the Animations are OK so I will buy it anyway.

Not everything needs to be as flashy and obvious as a bright neon sign. Subtlety is important, too, and I find that it looks quite good, especially on some of the more multi-hit flurry skills. If there are some slash animations that don’t actually trigger the whip animation, then that’s a bug and something they should look into fixing.

I would buy the sword if it was constantly extended. As it is the animation is so fast you can’t really see the chain unless you have a channeling animation (i.e. Mesmer Blurred Frenzy). Then the normal sword animations and particle effects block it out sometimes.
Outfit is meh. Anet should revert outfits/town clothes back to their original state of individual pieces. Who cares if the pieces cause clipping with some races or other gear. That’s not a big deal and can be fixed slowly as needed.

I refuse to buy any outfits, no matter how good they look. I want to mix armor pieces together instead of just buying an outfit which I kinda like because of the cool gloves or the head piece. I know this is all about money and that Smith guy probably noticed how they got more profit from selling outfits only. Nevertheless, you should maybe enable the option of combining certain outfit pieces together. And if that doesn’t give you more money because you satisfy the needs of another part of customers then please tell me why it wouldn’t work.

Well, I guess we have different taste. I like the temple set on Charr, mistwalker set a bit less and Magitech medium on Charr is one of the worst imo, it looks silly for me. With this short medium armors you actually lose texture visuals on lower parts of armor that way. As for clipping its a matter of optimisation for this race. And as far as I`m concerned most of outfits feel like Anet create them on humanoids and then just port to Charr race without much effort. The only exeption to this rule is the dragon outfit from lunar event.

I like that the chain whip sword has is a straight sword for some abilities and a whip for others. It makes sense that it’s a straight sword for stabs like Savage Leap and Final Thrust and that it becomes a whip for Flurry. But I really hate that it’s floppy when sheathed and that the chain is bright neon green of all things. If it had a normal looking chain and was a straight sword when sheathed it’d be perfect.

Worse — oh look another outfit obviously built on the medium armor template and yet still locked together in one big blob instead of being released as armor.

ArenaNet, if you’re gonna keep making armor using the armor tools (because there’s no mistaking the pedigree of an outfit like this), why not make it available as both outfit AND armor skin? Sell them separately and maybe even offer a discounted bundle. People who like outfits get outfits. People who like to mix and match get a bag full of parts. Everybody wins.

Of course, a “mad scientist” would probably wear a trenchcoat… but then, why make an outfit based on a “mad scientist” at all? Given the sheer quantity of trenchcoats already in the game, this decision is just breathtakingly boring.

I’m just gonna add my vote for how poorly made the sword animations are. We’ve literally seen better animation in the previous century. Even at 50% speed like in the video above, it looks too fast and not much like a chain weapon at all.

If they don’t slow it down and have it apply properly to all slashing animations, I’m gonna have to ask for a refund. The way I see it, right now, it’s just false advertisement.

You might as well ask for the refund as they aren’t going to change it. Look at the Red Panda mini. It’s badly pixelated. There were numerous posts about it and it hasn’t been reworked and I don’t expect them ever to rework it now that they have our money.
