Challenge Vs Payment Anamoly
please decapitalize your post; it makes you seem less reasonable and thus less likely to be heard by someone you’re trying to sway. It’s great for people who already think this, but horrible for everyone else.
and are you talking about getting new traits? I haven’t done any of those yet, and I have yet to see an event where you can pay gold + SP to complete the event. I would love to be able to do that to open Temple of Balth.

Decapitalized some of it.. rest capitalization is more of emphasis and seeming more or less reasonable is subjective.
yes, if new trait is a reward for completing a challenge, then the post does apply to new traits .. you require either gold which you can pay to trainer anytime OR you can complete certain task .. which should be available at all times like the trainer is.

Not every event or ‘challenge’ is available every minute of the game. Not every activity is available every minute of the game. You can’t earn laurels every minute, you can’t craft every item, you can’t run every dungeon all the time.
I don’t see a difference, really, except you do have a choice with Traits to acquire them at any time, should you decide you would rather pay the cost.
Also, I don’t remember any of the pillars of Guild Wars 2 saying anything about never having to wait to play every single piece of content. Perhaps, I missed that part. Do you have a link, please?
The issue with the events ties in with the Megaserver problems. Its near impossible to find an active Lyssa/Grenth Temple and a group to actually run it. I’ve pretty much given up on ever running Temples again since the patch hit. Theres also the unlock for Karka Queen which is a problem if you can’t make the time slot. If they moved it to something more frequent it might help solve the problem, but I wouldn’t count on it anytime soon. The way I see it is if you really want/need the trait just buy it. It would be faster for you to just farm that few extra gold and purchase it rather than waste your time waiting for the event that may or may not come up.

Its about giving a choice .. for example of personal storyline.. it is always available and can be done mostly solo even if no one is around at your own time at your own pace .. and it completes at lvl 80 .. traits could have unlocked there .. just a random example.. also, there is no reason why only one task should unlock one trait and that task to be time bound .. say completing personal story line will unlock some X trait, so will some temple and so will some chest at the end of some jumping puzzle .. so player has a choice not bound by TIME.. and remember that trait is a specific reward that needs to be done only ONCE .. once you get it, its forever on that toon.. not like crafting bricks which is intended to slow down the rate at which all toons will become full ascended .. this is totally a different purpose and hence cant be compared to say you have hit lvl 80, you are saving gold for final gear set and you want that last trait .. right now you have nice 2 hrs of gaming time … but no you cant get it just because you missed that time window by 10 mins
about links, just go to the old vids of gw2 pre launch on youtube and twitch, dont have exact link, but i bet you will find it on youtube .. search in tune of no grief gaming promo for gw2…

All I can say is good luck at getting it changed. =) Perhaps, this suggestion will be implemented.

I have not had any issues with either Grenth or Lyssa. I unlocked the traits for those with My Thief, mesmer, and Necromancer, as well as the Mage at Arah.
I do not understand why any one else seems to be having a hard time with these unlocks, maybe i am just lucky?
Hmmmmmm challenge vs pay… the gripe is that the ‘challenge’ is not always available, and this goes against GW style? If I am skimming this correctly….
So……
Using an elite tome to purchase a skill, instead of rezoning a map (a hundred fricking times) to get the right boss to spawn in prophecies for an elite isn’t the same thing?
To me, it kinda, rather, very much is. Sort of sets the precedent imo. But hey, what do I know.
Thing to be careful here is not twist the intent of a feature. This isnt about getting it done as quickly as possible its about choice. You can either do the intended content for the specific trait, say kill the corrupted high priestess or you can opt to change that content for whatever else you like if killing corrupted high priestesses isnt your thing.
Things to consider… in the grand scheme of things you’re paying a much higher price if you opt to go with the alternative and considering a game’s currency is primary a representation of time I am not sure how true this statement really is.
Thing is 3g + 20 skill points aren’t instantly available to every one either. You require a time element to earn them too. So question is which is really quickest? Waiting for an event to start + the time to complete it or acquiring 3g+20 skill points?
I would also disagree GW2 is designed around a principle of no waiting for content. In fact its more like the opposite I would say. Look at dynamic events that make the bulk of the game’s content. Unlike other MMOs where such content is available on demand in Guild wars 2 its available at random and involves waiting both for a dynamic event chain to start as well as for one dynamic event in a chain to progress to the next.
