Boy I miss challenging missions like jennur’s horde i did it with a full hero/ hench party. It took me a long time to get it right but accomplishing it was the ultimate satisfaction. GW2 is a bit lacking in that department.
What GW1 mission do you miss?

Can’t believe you used heroes en henchies in the same sentence as challenging… GW had far better then that, and nothing that relies on npc’s is really challenging, heroes and henchies was about build an micro management of stupid npc’s.

GW2 has real challenge if you look for it, but some people mistake challenge with hotspots farmable by the right build and getting rewards. I don’t actually miss any GW1 missions because they were easier then any GW2 story dungeon if you brought a decent group, hard modes were easier then explorables of most dungeons today. What i do miss are places like underworld and the realm of anguish, before the cookie cutter builds were introduced.

But why the hell be nostalgic? GW2 is on a higher level overall when it comes to challenging and engaging gameplay imo. Fact is after playing this game i’d never play a minute of GW1 ever again.

If you are looking for a cozy mature Dutch guild (EU) let me know.

Go do UW without anyone with shadowform and tell me how easy it is. Then find me a GW2 mission/dungeon that’s of an equal difficulty and skill requirement. Everything in GW2 has been solo’d except those parts that require multiple people for progression (torches in CoF3, traps in AC2, light football in Arah, traps and hammer in fractals.)
DoA was first done Solo when? Last April? Nothing in this game is that challenging.

The elite instances in Guild Wars 1 are indeed challenging. When Prophecies was first released, you had FoW and The Underworld and without heroes, you had to have a full team of people. You couldn’t take henchmen into it. And it was tough. Much tougher than most of the stuff in Guild Wars 2.

However, Prophecies on release had NO dungeons. Those two areas were only really hard areas in the game. Even Sorrow’s Furnace wasn’t released till later.

So you have two hard areas. Guild Wars 2 has 8 dungeons each with 3 explorable mode paths, which is about 24 pretty hard areas (admittedly some are harder than others). There are no heroes so you need players, (though 5 instead of 8 like you did for the underworld).

Each of those paths, when added up aren’t much smaller than the Underworld. There’s plenty of challenging content. Do the harder dungeon paths if you don’t believe it.

But any content, eventually, gets relegated to being too easy due to farming builds. They found ways to speed clear UW and they’ve found ways to speed clear the hardest dungeons. In about the same length of time.

Both games have challenging stuff to do. In Guild Wars 1, it was all in one place. Here it’s a bit more scattered…but that doesn’t mean it’s not there.

I think Fox never did Jennur’s Horde or forgot what the mission was. Those missions were intended to be completed by a team of real players and even then it was challenging. So to complete this particular mission using henchmen/heroes would require precise micromanagement. For that mission you had to position you heroes precisely and figure out the right build for each hero. You had to keep the waves of enemy from reaching the gardener which isn’t easy to do when you have to flag heroes in certain spots and then move them quickly while fighting. It would be much easier with a team of real players who know what to do and can think for themselves.

In regards to GW2, I do think there’s plenty of challenging content especially in fractals and dungeons. But they’re challenging in a different sort of way. It’s a faster paced game with quick thinking required. (like basketball) GW is about figuring out the right builds/skills for specific situations and countering the opponent’s build. (like chess)

Jennur’s, much like everything else, became a joke after the 7-hero updated. However, back at Nightfall release…I’d rather have died than do that mission more than once, especially on Hard Mode. It was like trying to kill Rotscale at release.

This poster probably never played GW1 very long..i doubt he or she ever PvP’d with such ignorant opinions. The depth of this game is laughable compared to GW1 gameplay, especially in groups.

Jennur’s Horde wasn’t really that hard, even with H/H. The trick was that the number of enemies in each attack wave depends on how many Seborhin spirits were up, so if you avoided creating too many spirits, it’s possible to get a 4 – 5 man attack wave throughout the entire mission that’s easily dealt with.

Now Dzagonur Bastion in HM with H/H… THAT was a tough mission. I had to use a Summoning Stone and a conset to get Master’s on that one. That and Eternal Grove in HM were probably the most difficult missions to get Master’s with just H/H.

Well, it must depend on the person because I never found Dzaganur Bastion as hard as Jennur’s Horde even in hard mode with henchies/heroes. Now if you really want to have some fun vanquish the Hidden City of Ahdashim with heroes/henchies. That mesmer boss and his buddies at the end were troublesome because you can only spread heroes out so far. (I now hate roaring ethers.)

But anyway, the post is comparing missions in gw with GW2. I definitely enjoyed the gw gameplay, storylines, and the feeling that I really made a difference. The missions were challenging yet interesting and you felt like a hero. When you beat the campaigns you even had all the npcs cheering for you and thanking you along with fanfare and fireworks. That would be nice to see in GW2. Nobody seems to know me even though I killed Zhaitan … lol.

I’ve always found Jennur’s Hoarde easy, even with h/h. Even in hard mode. But Dzaganur Bastion tasked me. I mean, yeah I could beat it some of the time in hard mode, but sometimes, I’d wipe too. I never had that problem in Jennur’s Hoard.

Definitely not that hard. I found it much, much easier than Eternal Grove, for example (the hardmode version).
