Champion farm "Triangles"-Good or bad?
I’ll answer #3 for you – when there is no real penalty for dying in a game, there is no such thing as difficult. 50 people swarming a champ, even if all of them died, they would respawn and keep going till it died.
There’s a big difference between punishing and difficulty. I perfer games that don’t punish you at all, because then you can crank up the difficulty to extreme levels. Anyway, as to what I think:
1. I have no idea. I say this because we are currently anticipating the release of ascended armor alongside of 100 extra levels in crafting disciplines, and from this we may very well see the surplus of gold and crafting supplies readily eaten up in the future. Of course, if it isn’t eaten up in the future, then it is bad for the economy.
2. I am seeing the skins and the mats commonly dropped by champions falling in price despite the influx of gold, so they are losing value slowly.
3. For the rewards they give, yes. Long before this update I was soloing many champions. They are giant bags of HP, and when 50 players run and attack them, they whittle down to nothing in an instant. Then everyone gets about 10 silver worth of stuff for it.
4. Mostly I just despite the community for it. There are some lone champions wandering around that I like to solo, and when I kill these guys that coffer makes for a nice bonus. I didn’t expect the community to default to fighting champions to the exclusion of everything else. Even civility. Anyway, I do think the rewards for these champions are a little too high. IMO, a champion should only give out an equal amount to a dynamic event, whereas right now they give out 3 times that much.
I used to love wandering around maps with my GF looking for champs to “challenge”… now I’m limited to do it in low lvl maps to avoid the zerk-zerg.
Game is getting boring and boring…
planed temporary inflation by anet to boost the gem prices, when they nerf champ farming you won’t be able to make as much money as fast but the gem prices stay high forcing you to pay real money if you want to buy gems.
Champion farming is awful. Just more brainless zerg mentality to grind two areas and completely remove people from every other aspect of the game. This was a horrible idea.
So with the introduction of champion loot, champion farm triangles have begun forming. Some people have been making a ton of money. Some of my guildies have made 100g+ in a couple of days.
There are a few things I’d like to discuss.
1. Are these farming triangles good or bad for the game/economy?
2. Are the rewards of champion loot (including skins) become devalued?
3. Are champions too easy to spawn/find/kill?
4. What are your final thoughts?
Good or bad for who?
Certainly good for me. Got the skin I want for cheap without any of the tedious farming.
1 The “made 100g+ in a couple of days.” thing has the usual issue. How much of that was from direct drops, how much of it was from selling drops merchants and how much was it from selling things to other players?
2 This is pretty much expected. Many have dropped to the same price or lower as other exotics. Their drop rate seems higher so that part makes sense too. Even if the actual chance of dropping is the same as regular exotics the effect rate is going to be higher because you can focus on a specific mob type for specific drops. With other exotics it’s spread among all the different exotics.
3 Since the wiki has a pretty decent(even if it is incomplete) list of them they are trivial to find. Difficulty is very inconsistent and tends to be at the extremes. Any possible challenge is obliterated when you apply a blob since non-event champions won’t scale.
4 At least they are worth killing now. I would say the biggest improvement is to dungeons but the CoF farmers will obviously disagree with that.
The chance of getting cores is effectively doubled for many of the encounters. Once from the champion box and once from the chest.
Yeah I love the changes to dungeons and I love the loot. I just feel like we should take advantage of the dynamic event system when it comes to champions.
Also on the topic of helping fight zergs, I also said this with world bosses. They need to convince players to spread out by giving incentives to interact with the world. Defending these npcs, driving this cannon, gather thing supplies. All of it leads to the enemies death and all those involved get rewards.
They become less impressive when players can buy them instantly on the TP.
Incorrect, they are just as impressive. They are simply less rare, but this doesn’t change how they look. The difference is that one speaks about a persons ego being more important to them than what they like. If you like something, great. If you only like it because it’s rare, that’s simply ego.

They have definitely dropped the ball when it comes to the meta events. This is actually related. Someone in map chat just mentioned that it is now more lucrative to farm the champs than to do the event. There are still people doing the events but less. Seems like it is at least partially working as far as "get people doing different things is concerned.
Back to the off-topic topic of events. While many could be made more interesting there is a time constraint issue. Both for the devs and for players. It seems like the devs ran out of time for many of them, maybe even all of them but there is a time issue for players as well. Making them more interesting could potentially make them a lot longer.
For example pre-launch during and interview somewhere one of the devs was describing an event that sounds like the Tequatl fight. Except instead of what we have now you were supposed to attack it with the turrets and if the turrets get destroyed it would start an escort event where you have to get the NPCs over to fix the turrets. You could reduce the boss’s health but it also has to maintain a certain minimum to give a chance for the other things to show up.
The biggest problem with the champion loot change and open world is that in some cases it rewards failing an event better than succeeding.

I can see why that would be a problem. The rewards at launch for these world bosses were horrendous. Hopefully as they improve them, they up the complexity/difficulty of the bosses.

+1 to that. If people need to impress others by exclusion, thats pretty sad.
Otherwise, other posts in this thread talk about “ruining the economy”, and I see it a lot on these forums. What they really mean to say is “ruins my chance at becoming rich at the expense of others”, in which case thats a good thing.

My favorite weapon is the Wooden Sword. You can obtain it via crafting. Most people ignore it since it looks “stupid”.
I’m seeing more people decide not to get a legendary because they’re becoming too frequent. In another year, how many more will have a legendary and will people still think they’re just as impressive. While exclusion is one of the ways to impress in an MMO. The weapons look impresssive, don’t get me wrong. However, in a game with no gear grind; progression is in looks. When all progression can be bypassed via the TP, what becomes of this progression?
Think about it like this. Do you think something is more impressive if he had to kill 10 of the hardest bosses in the game, or if he sat at one waypoint and killed “champions” by auto attacking them with 20 other people for 2 hours.
Elitism and Exclusion is what makes MMOs. It’s a fundamental part of the genre sadly.
Another thing I’m noticing with the champion farm triangles is it is draining the other zones. With the CoF farming, it was confined to three people and required some coordination. With the champion farm it is a lot easier, and a lot more people are able to do this. I’m seeing a lot less real players in other zones. The other day I was exploring in bloodtide coast. I found a total of 3 other players in the hour and a half i was in there. Two of them were bots. While simply nerfing the champion loot rate wouldn’t solve this. I think making it so that some champions in certain areas will drop special loot bags that only they drop and you have to do a series of events to spawn them.
Hate it, can’t wait til it gets removed!
You 45 out of 50 players killing a champ in 8 secs don’t deserve a kitten thing!
Yah you put so much effort and skill in spamming auto-attack for 8 secs……You really deserve a reward!
