I am thinking of making an alt but wonder if I should hold off until the next patch. Do you think we might see a new race with it? It would be a great way for Anet to pull in some money from character slots, bag slots, name changes (if you like a name you already have), ect.

Well I was using that as an example of why we could see it soon. There has not been a whole lot new, imo, for me to spend money on in this game.

A new race is highly unlikely. They love to hype their content and this would be huge. (not to mention the info would’ve leaked by now)

Odds of a new race or class are very, very low. I imagine we’ll see some new maps in the Maguuma, but that may not come right on July 1st.

We don’t need anything new till Anet fixes the crap they already broke. (which is alot already). Adding more races, ugly armor, clipping issues (charr you know what i mean)!

Although i favor new stuff and all the game won’t get better adding more problems to the mix…

I wish they would release something. I would be fine with a Gem Store Race Unlock too. I would prefer a full fledged expansion but I’ll take what I can get.

Heck, I’d even be ok with a Racial Costume at this point.

700 Gems = One new racial costume. (Tengu, Kodan ,Largos, Centaur, Skritt, etc, etc)

But I suspect if they do that we won’t see that race as actually playable anytime soon…

Absolutely no chance.

If they add a new race so soon after the China launch, the Chinese may think it is a regular thing for the game. Since China is all that Anet cares about now, they will avoid doing something to raise expectation within that market beyond what is reasonable.

You have to remember that we in the ‘old world’ (US/EU servers) are yesterday’s toys now. We have to think of what China wants/expects.

There wont be a new race next patch. I haven’t gotten 80 tomes of knowledge yet and that’s the reason why there will be no new class or race next patch.

A new race at July 1st is possible and would be a nice surprise since we lost one. But a new race I would rather expect during season 2.

Honestly don’t see it happening. It would be nice, heck with all the kids going on Summer break that would be amazing to draw players back into the game.

You can blame English language for using the same word for completely different things like race or cape.

Therefor I think we will the a new race (e.g. moa chicks already there) before we see a (playable) race.

The new S2 is supposed to be for level 80s. If that means any new maps are at level 80 also then giving us a new race to level through all the old zones while all the new stuff is level 80 material would be almost cruel.

As other people have said there would have been some mention of it by now if they were going to add one.

I think they will add new races eventually, but I suspect when it does happen there will be a lot of buildup. Probably even a story arc that explains how the new race (my guess is kodan or tengu) comes to be allied with the existing playable races to explain them moving freely through cities, joining the same guilds, trading etc.

(Also to answer one question/comment about having to level from the start they could do it like some other games, WoW for example, where if you have a max level character you can create one of the new race at level 80.)

I’m mostly hoping for a big new area. (Crystal Desert would be my top pick, but anything big, with different mobs, different look, would be great.) But a new race is always interesting (except I don’t care for the bird/polar bear people look personally, so my enthusiasm isn’t that high for those. But my choice of ‘Quaggan in hats’ is probably way down on the list.)

I wouldnt doubt it too much, Anet likes to keep secrets and does it very well, thats why its not out if it is coming. check this outDDDDD

I don’t think we will get anything big or new with the first update of season 2. After that, I think the types of content we could get will step up, and that could possibly mean a new race. maybe by the end of the year

Its going to be a simple LS addition… similar to what we have been seeing since the release of the bi-weekly LS cycle lol… you make it sound like anet is about to add xpac like content as in new skills/weapons/races/dungs…. just gonna be a nice little zone with some achievements and events to go zerg surfing, maybe a few cosmetics..

Tengu are currently the best candidate for being the first new playable race. Just people are expecting it today/tomorrow – It will likely be over a year or more away.

Wouldn’t a new race also mean a new permanent city for that race plus zones? I don’t see that happening during a standard living story update.

*New personal story up to lvl 30.
*New capital
*New starter zone
*New cultural armor/weapons
*New racial skills

A new race would be something huge, something they’d be hyping long before it would happen.

If we end up getting a new race during the LS, the way I see it working would be at the end of a season instead of at the beggining. For example, using the Tengu since they’re the race I’d like to see next as playable, imagine the big finale of a LS being the Tengu opening the gates of the dominion of the winds and becoming a playable race, followed by a 2 or so Lkittenus like this year’s one, which would be perfect for whoever creates a new Tengu to level up before beggining of next LS season.

Taking into consideration that you might be serious about this. You do realise it’s only been 22 months since release, Yellowstone has time to blow up before you see Anet making a new race.

Its also something that would be smarter to release in a hard expansion because people that have stopped playing GW2 and people that never have would then see it. Introducing something like that through LS alone just seems like a bad judgment call to me.

Introduce content via LS = Current players are happy
Introduce content via hard expansion = Current players are happy, new players jump in, and older players may return

The interview you quoted was Colin talking about the April 15 feature patch. It literally has feature in how they referred to it. But if you want to hold your breath, then by all means…

Anet knows that we craiving for a new race, new weapons, new classes. I for one would totally love if anet opens up the gate on july 1st with a big bang. Para/dervish class, new weapons, more legendaries etc etc. They can’t really open with a “this is the new story…thats it.” They need people intressted after this long waiting of “expansion like content”.

Pretty much this. This is the first LS season for China. The very fact that it’s their first is all the “big release” we’ll get. The simple fact is, China’s a bigger market than the rest of us are. In other words:

• We are no longer who they’re aiming the game at.
• We are not important to them.
• We have already been replaced.

Always ask yourself “Is this good for the China market?” If the answer is “no”, then it doesn’t matter how much we may want it, it’s not a good investment for them. If they have a choice of two features they could work on (and let’s be honest, they’ve got far more than two to choose from), then between one that goes over well with us and poorly in China, and one that we hate but will sell big in China, they’ll go with the second every time. It’s just good business.

Putting out a new race, or anything else of that scale to launch Season 2 would be bad in the China market. They’d come to expect that, it’s their first LS season and it will be the measuring stick they use for all the ones to come. Some fanfare will happen, but nothing that big.
