Playing a various Stormspire alt – if it’s Stormspire, it’s probably me
Guilds: Elder Prophets [EP], Principality of New Katulus (PiNK)
I’ve been running a lot of dungeons this past few days trying to grind some gear.
One thing that has always bothered me, and it’s especially bad in dungeons… I simply cannot see the red ring on the ground when I’m about to be hit by an AoE attack. Something about my old eyes… the dim lighting in most dungeons, or my monitor, whatever. I just can’t do it. Other times I can just barely make it out, but by then it’s too late to dodge the attack.
Is there any way to change this color? So instead of a hazy, dim, red ring of death, I could have a bright, cheery, blue ring of death?
Agreed…. for some floor colors/textures it can be tough to see the thin red line designating the circle’s boundary
The circle needs to be the negative color of the ground for the best contrast.
It is crazy hard to see sometimes. I’ve heard from some colorblind people that the red circles aren’t even visible to them. Ouch.
I also wouldn’t mind them being filled in somehow to better discern the area of the attack. Might be useful!
I have good vision, but I have a hard time telling the difference between friendly and hostile Necro wells. Yeah, the hostile wells have a thin, red ring (much narrower than other rings), but it’s hard to see under the well’s border effects.
I also have a problem, and my guild makes fun of me for this, telling friendly and hostile fire elementalist AoEs apart (especially Lava Font). I’m always dodg rolling out of friendly spells :P
10044039855% agreed! Best example I can think of: Harpy Fractal. .00001 thick red line to show you that you are about to get blasted into eternity
Agree very much.

I dont think your alone doing the charr story line it took me a while to work out when i was standing in a good aoe or a bad one.
Please dont make them blue though people already seem to run away from Guardians as it is.
Honestly I don’t think this would be such a problem to make personal on Your screen, just have Anet ad a option in game to change that color on your computer. Let it be hot pink. (I actually favor hot pink because it’s easy to see /shrug)

Love the idea would solve it for almost all the variations of color blindness if people could pick what they prefer. Though personally i would still need red flashing lights and a siren Alert Alert Alert, i have a reputation for standing in aoe sadly.
Today I learned there is an AoE indicator for enemy spells about to hit. Got an ele all the way to 80 and just figured it out. That’s kind of a testament to how hard they are to see for colorblind people.

^This. The other option is to give the rings two contrasting layers of colour, e.g. white/dark red for hostile rings, and black/light blue for friendly rings. Having separate colours for hostile and friendly would go a long way to ensuring players aren’t wasting dodges on friendly attacks in particularly zergy zones (WvWvW, obviously)
Also, colourblind here – I can’t see the red circles against darker surfaces, especially brown/black ones. Plus side, almost no issues in the open areas of the Shiverpeaks.
