I agree with OP as well. Aquabreathers and underwater combat in general has been all but abandoned by ANet. Might as well just cut the chord.

I was dismayed by the ascended aqua breather announcement too. I thought converting them to skins was just common sense, but apparently it isn’t.

It’s a failed part of the game. Hey, it was tried, but it just doesn’t work out well. Aqua breathers are not suddenly going to be relevant just because there’s an ascended one to get now. Making them skins is just much more sensible.

I’m kind of not surprised that they’ve decided to go this route, as it makes no sense at all, which seems to be the way they like to play things for some unknown reason.

It definitely makes more sense to have them as skins rather than having to make yet another headpiece that would hardly ever get used. Even if they decided to add another bonus to runes so we would have to work for the 7th major bonus instead of just 6 wouldn’t justify it imo.

+1 for Anet to at least look at reworking the system in some way.
I just realised, I’m not sure I’ve ever applied a rune to my breather. It never occurred to me that I needed to!

Also I love that GW2 has underwater stuff, +1 for more underwater content. Don’t let it die.

I’d like to not see it die, but I’d LOVE to see it be fixed.

I mostly put in a ruby shard at some point .. Orbs don’t even work in my Orisippus Breathers .. lol

yes please. the aquabreather should be a helm – stat – clone with a different appearance.

there are tons of other suggestions that can improve underwater, but that is for a different thread…
