Change back /me emotes
Oh no!! Thats a shame, kills the immersion when RPing
RPing with the guild right now and most of us are highly annoyed by this. The chat becomes really difficult to follow with the double names all over.
Please, please, please. Fix the emotes back to the way they were. Redundancy is pretty redundant and also it’s redundant.
Wow, was this even needed? I’m hoping it’s a bug and not intentional.
The only two things that needed fixing on the /em’s were: 1) not being able to block them when blocking a griefer and 2) the grey text which is so darn hard to read.
(2) is still there. (1) I don’t know until I test.
But if they were gonna change emotes why on earth not let us have a better color? Custom chat colors in general would help so much.
Well, uh, our in house testing showed that at least five billion testers out of two billion, uh, you see, uh… Had issues, uh, with the names only being represented, uh, once! So in efforts to make it more user friendly, we’ve decided to, uh, double, uh, the names seen on screen to avoid that confusion.
Maybe the in house testers actually thought player emotes were actual emotes and couldn’t find out how to do them? lol
Just cut the second name and you’re golden. Doesn’t need to be a big deal. The change overall is good. But this little detail is annoying.
This was a bad idea. Also, it was a bad idea.
Please fix this.
Come on, Anet. For once throw us a nice little bone.
As to my (1) I see in the patch notes:
“Blocking a player now hides their /me emote commands.”
So that’s something.
And the hotfix didn’t change anything.
I I think think this this is is how how Anet Anet thinks thinks people people communicated communicate.
Here’s to hoping it’s just a joke/bug.
September Feature Patch: RP gets nerfed!
September Feature Patch: RP gets nerfed!
October Feature Patch: No more custom emotes!
They really need to look at the amount of redundancy in this. Any other MMO I’ve played I’ve been able to block other players without having such redundancy as displayed here. It makes it look like a sub par MMO as opposed to a comparable and recent game. Heck older games with less put together systems have succeeded with this one thing
This is an odd, pointless change that makes /me emotes look idiotic.
We have a pretty short list of emotes, frankly, and now the catch-all emote is ruined.
Edit: /me no longer repeats the player’s name. Problem solved. Hooray!

yeah woah why… seriously
i generally dislike RP’ing. Its not my thing. But I dont bug ‘em, and they don’t bug me.
There was actually time and effort into making this change….why?
Leave the poor RP’ers alone! They’re the only ones getting any enjoyment out of this ‘game’!
Are you serious!? I haven’t even played since the patch, and already I hate it. This is not even an RP thing — lots of people like doing a custom emote once in a while, just for fun. This change sounds completely stupid. Seriously, what is the point?
A lot of people are unhappy about it. As I said before no other MMO has such a clumsy and awkward system. It seems almost as if they no longer wish to compete with the industry and are happy being a subpar product.
The emote system needs to go back to what it was if not the /say format of NAME: Emote
While I’m pretty sure this is a side effect of making /em blockable, they do need to fix this.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
Every other MMO I have played has had /e blockable but hasn’t had such a redundant and sloppy looking format. Visually this just appears to be lazy coding.
Please fix this. If it was a bug or not, I don’t care. It’s a bad change.
I think this is a bug. In WvW, this is what you get:
/em shouts loudly.
Rosy Dawn: Sea of Sorrows Invader shouts loudly.
(Note that I’m on Sea of Sorrows, but Invader isn’t my rank.)
So it’s even sillier in WvW.
Because I am strongly believe Devs only listen to the squeaky wheels and I truly wish to see this fixed. I am bumping to keep on the front page. Afterall, such a sub par system should not exist in an MMO in 2014
Let’s get this fixed please! A stark hard to read grey emote channel with a massive range is pretty ridiculous — and see, it’s ridiculous for WvW people too.
Please: Please fix this. This: This makes no sense.
This Player: This Player thinks that this new custom emote system makes no sense.
As a roleplayer, I really don’t see what the big deal is. It just standardizes the chat flow for custom emotes. Nothing to be concerned about, really.
I liked it the way it was. This is a bad change from an RP point of view.

it’s broke in wvw, too. it’s broken. it needs to be fixed.
If you ask me this is more confusing than the old way. Really it’s just tacky looking, there’s nothing else to it.
Aye, this change is crap. FIX IT PLEASE ANET!
17 level 80 characters, all races, all professions.
Please, Anet? Kindly revert the double-naming. Or just leave names selectable but take out the extra one.
Aye, we need this changed back. As well if people post on their sentiments on their facebook and twitter feeds it may get our voices heard faster. Clearly there are very few happy with this change and the only way corporations listen is if they don’t get any peace about a matter.
Piogre.2164 This is stupid and needs to be reverted immediately.

Still needs to be fixed please.
Morsheira.6102: Morsheira.6102 continues to dance around waiving flag. This truly needs to be fixed!
Can this get any worse, it’s the main reason the game looks so alive…i just got to stop coming here it’s too fraking depressing!
As to my (1) I see in the patch notes:

hahhaha so their mastermind programers figure a way to block the player by adding the name on the chat so they can filter it… brilliant! programming 101.
That’s not how you fix something… ¬¬

A very good something! I can finally block those people who think they RP when they are, in fact, recreating CW shows with Charr.
Seriously though, can we please lower the emote range? PLEASE? I realize not everyone can /p or /g their RP sessions, but if I’m halfway across a zone, I don’t need to know what these good folk are doing.
And yes, change the /e /me text, color and display. It’s weird to look at in chat while I’m crafting.

We have a pretty short list of emotes, frankly, and now the catch-all emote is ruined.
And after they re-fix it, they can work on adding more emotes. :\

Sadly if you ask for too much at once you aren’t likely to get anything. So for the moment lets just stick with the issues of Player A: Player A is getting sick of the cluttered coding.
Please. Please fix this. It’s not that it breaks anything, it just looks and feels ugly. There is no conceivable way it helps the players to see the name twice in a row when doing a custom emote.
Again, us RPers are often laughed away but it is immersion breaking and as RP is one of the ways the game can be enjoyed, I feel as if such a simple matter to fix shouldn’t be neglected. Especially as it will make a lot of people rather happy.
Looks like they listened! I just saw this, I’ve been out tabletopping tonight so I haven’t checked in game to verify, but from patch notes:
“Custom emotes no longer add the sender’s name.”
I’m happy to confirm that /me has been fixed!
Thanks, Anet!
