As some of you may be aware, we have recently had a rash of gold sellers spamming your forum inboxes. In an effort to halt this activity, we will be implementing new limitations on private messaging. From this point onward, players will have to wait 72 hours from their first forum login before they are able to send a private message on the forums.
We have blocked all the accounts involved and this new limitation will prevent gold sellers from abusing our forum systems in the future.

How is this solution to the problem?

You have to solve the source of problem instead of just limitations on private messaging.

They are selling Legendary items with your system not only Gold.

Like making account bound that items and gold trade limitation for per day and week and month can be start point of solving this issue ( like real life credit cards ).

I’m pretty sure people of this community can find any other good solutions.

And I must add i’m not using forum’s pm system maybe couple of times and i don’t care about it but game.

Interesting no-one cares about these fundamental issue.

Gold trade limitations will not stop goldsellers. They can use ANet precious TP to transfer and sell gold freely with little loss.

They could care less about the impact on us. But impact on them and their precious image now that we cant have.
Here is a hint – You have thrown your pre release info under the bus and your founding vision out the door in under 2 months and sold out. What is there to worry about now.
Do the right thing and fix the game and economy and your image will fix itself.

Please understand, just because we put this limitation in to stop the RMT spam, does not mean we are not working on the greater issue.

We wanted to get this change in to put an immediate stop to the spam while other teams are working on addressing the rest of the problem.

I dunno about others, I would have a better understanding and feeling of trust if we could get some sort of plan of action we can refer to.

The fact that we the players are always in the dark about so many crucial aspects, just adds to the mistrust we have.

I’m not sure how this is going to stop them. All they have to do is wait 72 hours, correct? So instead of getting my occasional “i love you” pm which offers illegitimate gold for sale today, I will get it 3 days from now.

Yes ofc I don’t mean that and for stoping leak it good action but limiting gold trade ( like with mail ) and account bound items ( like legendaries ) can be stop or at least can be slow down them. Since their source is high priced items and stolen accounts.

So ppl keep reporting bots and ban hammer working and limited gold trade and without high priced items they can’t be farm enough gold or items for selling.

And maybe system admins must be check rich players money source also.

Sorry if I misunderstood you, but you want them to make public how they combat bots and spammers so that said bots and spammers can more easily avoid their efforts?

I’m not sure how this change has any significant impact on ordinary players.

1. It only affects the forums.
2. It only applies to people logging in for the first time.
3. It only applies to private messaging.

In exchange for this restriction, which lasts only 72 hrs for the few people directly affected, the rest of us will see much less spam.

Gold selling, botting, and gold buying are serious issues and perhaps ANet can and/or should be doing more, but this particular change is a good thing for the vast majority of people using the forums and, at worst, a temporary inconvenience to a few.

Impossible. It’s not actually illegal, just against game rules.

I’m sure blizzard with their piles of money and their lawyers worth piles of money would have fixed this problem if that were possible, but they still have this same issue.
