Change in loot parameters or a bug? [Merged]
I dunno about you guys, but the lack of response tells me this was intentional.
Maybe the fact champions still don’t drop anything was not intentional, but I bet the rest of the loot nerfing was.

The champions failing to explode with multi-hued loot like the glorious pinatas they deserve be still vexes me.
Sometimes it seems as though they were left in their current barren state as indicator flags for the situation elsewhere. Giant, monumentally over-healthy champions for some sort of cause… Especially so after being specifically pointed out in the patch notes as recipients of repairs they did not receive.
Champions of the muffled developers, perhaps?
While people keeps buying gems to trade for gold they will never change the loot tables to pre-15th November.
Christmas time is good to make a killing on the gem store front.
Maybe in January, after the gems selling goes down, they will ninja revert the loot tables.
But one thing is certain, they will never acknowledge it.
Yet since the the Lost Shores gem/gold trade prices have skyrocketed just as drop rates were changed this way. Consequence? Coincidence? Or rather intended?
Yet since the the Lost Shores gem/gold trade prices have skyrocketed just as drop rates were changed this way. Consequence? Coincidence? Or rather intended?
In my opinion, it was completely deliberated.
Zero drops = Zero Gold through TP/NPC ==> Need for gold
Gems gold value increase = More gold per 100 Gems ==> Gems good to trade for gold
More gold per 100 gems = Gold Sellers lower gold price ==> Botting for gold not worth
Basically, they gold starved normal players and made the whole gold botting business very hard and almost non-profitable (much more time to bot for same gold that sell for much smaller $$ value to compete with gems).
So, they killed 2 birds with 1 stone.
Increased our need for gold + Killed gold bot business = Gems store Jackpot!

If I’d put on my tin foil wizard hat, I could speculate that they introduced the FotM funnel to lure people away from the open world(and keep them away with ascended farming), so the reduced loot drop rate wouldn’t be noticed by a majority of the non-forum player base.

Hummm…the FoTM funnel could really have that effect.
But I think they realize that the game has no long-term end-game content other than WvWvW (not worthy in present state due to ridiculous rewards), sPvP (dead) and getting a Legendary skin.
MMO companies seem to never realize how commited is the player community and how fast they can achieve even the hardest of challenges. After a lot of players started to advertize their new Legendary weapons, in a relatively short time after the game launch, they kind of panicked and hastly introduced the FoTM to keep the achievers entertained (achievers were the first to reach end-game and to get the Legendary skin). They were afraid about people leaving the game because of no challenges.
The achievers promptly answered the new challenge (as planned) and spent the last weeks running desperatly through FoTM to get the top notch gear. Because achievers are really the locomotive of an MMO train, all the others (us, the carriages) will dully follow. The top notch gear mirage will make the mice running the wheel.
The only problem was that by introducing vertical progression they broke one of their own Commandments, writen in stone in a covenant made with the player community.
FoTM was a desperate measure and we will see in future if it was worth the pain.

Why is it when businesses perform crappy business models to increase their sales for shady purposes people say it’s a conspiracy theory. Hello, does anyone here remember the housing crisis, the great depression, the union busting tactics. It’s really not that much of a stretch honestly.
They see the trends they try to adjust to increase the sales in those trends or they destroy those trends altogether if they can to make a buck…and that’s if they have someone in charge who’s ruthless. Nexon moved some people into the creative process and since then it’s been downhill for those who like to play for free.
It’s best said HERE
Believe what you will but I for one know it’s most likely true. It happens all the time. Just look at the food industry. Monsanto has been moving executive members from their company in and out of the FDA for years now, it’s all in public records too anyone can look it up and see.
MMO companies seem to never realize how commited is the player community and how fast they can achieve even the hardest of challenges. They were afraid about people leaving the game because of no challenges.
Now they should be even more worried about people leaving because there is no reward for effort. Many, many players, such as myself, are reward driven much more so than goal driven, which was a big draw for me in GW2. I don’t have time to grind and didn’t have to to feel as though I accomplished something. After Nov 15th, everything is about grind. I get off on finishing a tough event/fight and reaping the rewards…well now there is essentially no reward. As a casual player, while I do enjoy dungeons and long chain events, I don’t always have time for such things. Mind you with the rewards as they are, there seems little point in doing such things since regular mobs usually drop better loot than veterans/champions/bosses.
Unfortunately much of the open world seems to be dying, as people funnel in to specific areas such as FotM, dungeons and Orr. Why? It they seem the only places where one can make any decent coin or get good drops. Orr, while it is part of the open world, it is a different story, many are there to farm T5-T6 materials needed for making legendary weapons. I pity those people who aspire to make a legendary. Under these new loot scheme getting all the required material by farming alone will take at least 10-20 times longer (And probably longer than that) than pre-Nov 15th.
Back to open world adventuring…even in Orr, where people do tend to congregate, although I understand there is less congregation since the loot changes, it’s hard to find a group who is willing to help with menial things like skill points…it’s all about about events and farming. I find myself often trying to hit-n-run skill points using pets/minions to distract mobs hopefully long enough to get the point. Unfortunately, this is not possible in all cases.
The areas I find most affected by population problems are the 40-60 level areas, especially now. Many simply leave the game before ever reaching level 40 and that number will only increase with the increased difficulty in leveling, heavy focus on the gem store, lack of rewards and the sheer frustration that causes.
The entire crafting, loot system, gem store and trading post is broken and corrupt. Artificially manipulating the marketplace like this would be considered fraud in the real world. Crafting is essentially dead as a result because T5-T6 mats are now so scarce and expensive that crafting is a waste of time. If they want a pure micro-payment-type economy common in some of the free MMOs…$2 for this piece of armor, $8 for this weapon, or even just straight gold for money…which seems the direction they’re pushing, then just do it and tell everyone. Then in this case, IMO ALL listings should be returned to the respective sellers, the TP should be shut down for player trading so that players can ONLY sell to in-game vendors, which in turn increases TP stock and prices are controlled from skyrocketing. GW2 should also be free to play in a pure micro-payment system. At $60 to buy, I didn’t sign up for a money sink. At least, then people would know where they stand.

Leamas,
Fully agree with you. Well said.

Wow, still no fix, or even a response for that matter!
Really disappointing. Oh well, back to playing games that aren’t trying to actively waste my time and be as unfun as possible.
3 days play, enough time in game to do 2 70+ map completions, chase dragons, do guild events and play wack-a-mole on events in Orr in the hope of getting some thing to turn into ectos and OMG perhaps a few charged lodestones.
Only worth while items ( ie yellow+ ) were completing to two maps, glad i got those before some one realised map completion can give out rares and nerfed it.
ok, the support ticket got a response … need to report this bug using the ingame bug reporting so QA get extra info. I’ll do that later today after doing pent/shelter/jofast events for a bit (think there is about 6-7 events associated with that area) so if it is DR they can tell me.

That’s just automated run-around. Wait for it…when you submit the in-game bug, you’ll get a message stating that due to the volume of submissions they receive, they simply cannot respond to everything.

Don’t you find it strange that the drop in loot coincides with the higher return of Real Life money to ingame gold?
Rare items are the main source of ectos, and you need 250 ectos to make those high end items
It used to be somewhat cheaper to buy 250 ectos, but since the drop rate has lowered considerably and the ecto price keeps raising, AND the gem to gold ratio keeps raising, the technique is quite simple:
Create a false shortage of a “base” item, and make it attractive to BUY INGAME GOLD so that MORE PEOPLE WILL GIVE Arenanet their money.
Free to play? Sure. Don’t forget the fine prints, though.

Did you read that interview I linked a whiles back with Izzy, on Kill Ten Rats? Every detail of every zone is monitored, which inherently includes drop rates.
The knee-jerk response of calling anyone who attempts to marshal a few brain cells to form a quite reasonable and obvious conclusion is slapped with the soggy mackerel of the “crazy conspiracy nut”.
Refactoring the market base to increase revenue after the initial ‘tease’ window of reasonable return for input for the first month or two after release was clearly the plan of the Nexon monetization process. Simple as that.
As to what on earth we can do about it, well, that’s down to people abstaining from the desire to participate in the gear treadmill for a short whiles. Which, as we all know, is not going to happen. A concerted effort by the populace to stymie the gold purchasing from the gem store, especially over Christmas, would send a very clear message that they need to change their process, to shift the focus of gem purchase back to where it should be, on things like flavour items, skins, and costumes. The simple process of buying what you see, not wretched lotteries and hiding event skins in cursed chests.
They can monetize the game effectively in a multitude of completely different ways, as has been pointed out in other threads, rather than simply stripping away open world returns and trying to make people buy bloody gold to pay the power traders for whatever is left. Such thoughtless, brute-tactic business models belong in the social media, browser-based and power-grind game world where Nexon belongs.
Why on earth did Nexon think that what worked on games like Maple Story would work here, in the long run?
I hate to be petty, but I hope to the gods that one day someone puts on the giant, callous boots of monetization and stomps all over something they cherish, and wanted to keep as the one thing apart from the drab everyday world of bloody profit.
Will the stain of Nexon ever wash off what is left of the franchise once they have moved on like the locusts they are?
Man I pity the developers.
Puffintoast, thank you for so eloquently describing it.
I love how you describe the ‘tease’ window, as this is truly apparent, and a very good way to put it.
Sadly you’re right, GW2 has become a cash cow, and unfortunately people are buying into it. How many posts do you see around here from people outright saying “I can’t be bothered to farm cause I don’t get nothing, so I just bought gold from anet”?
That’s why they’re winning and we’ll never get back what we once had.
If you really have a problem with this… Stop playing.

Stop buying gems until they answer us honestly and revert the ninja loot nerf of 15th November.

I uninstalled today, no point torturing myself anymore. I was going to hold on till after Wintersday but I might get wrapped up in that and forget how much of a shell the game has become. The back to reality comedown would be harder then so I’m cutting my losses now (pity I hadn’t done this a week ago before I bought a character slot and makeover ).
I’ll no doubt keep checking this thread for a glimmer of hope but I’ve a feeling these junk drops are here to stay.
The sadest aspect of this tragedy is that most of us is willing to buy gems for GOOD stuff from the gem shop. If they were not so lazy and actually offered something nice we would give them the $$ they want.
But no, they prefer to have a miserable gem shop and nerf the drops to make us waste our money on trash.
I do not understand why they contracted the evil lady to run the gem shop. What a waste of money!
I bet some of us posting here could run the gem shop much more efficiently, gaining much more money for the company and having the community happy.
Ive actually tweeted the links to guildwars2 together with the number of pages/views/posts 3 times now at certain milestones of this thread. Of course, no response. Perhaps you should too. The more the merrier as they say. The latest one was "

Game over
Bot owners must be LOVING this change.
I’ve been laid up from surgery for a few days and so I’ve done events with champion and legendary mobs many, many times. You know what I got off legendary mob bodies? NOTHING. Every time, totally unlootable. Large chests and dragon chests from event chains (some of them pretty long and involved like the insanely stupidly designed Melandru event) dropped all blues and green medallions. In nearly a week I’ve gotten two rares and one exotic from drops. Where’d I get them? Trash mobs in the Plinx event zergs.
So us legit players are getting, with almost certainty, complete garbage from doing events and actually participating in the game world while trash mobs are still dropping rares and exotics meaning the bots must be rolling in cash just because of the sheer numbers involved. Prices for anything decent and the globs they create are through the roof so the bots must be LOVING this change.
We’re right back to where we were in Guild Wars 1 with normal players being hugely penalized with terrible, terrible drop rates for desirable items while bots and obsessed farmers are barely affected because the bots win by sheer volume and the farmers win because they only need to get it once. And, as usual, not a peep from Anet on this.
How long until people just stop doing certain longer events at all? I’m sorry, but things like the Melandru event chain are just annoying and if I’m just going to get garbage from it I’m not going to keep doing it. The stupid waypoint can just stay contested (along with Grenth which is still bugged on our server AFIAK) and the heck with any newer player who can’t get the skill point or hasn’t already seen the end of the chain. I’ve already seen the content, if my chance of getting a decent reward for doing it for the umpteenth time is virtually 0.0 I see no real reason I should keep doing it. I assume others will start to feel the same way and newer players will just be completely locked out of huge swaths of the content as veterans give up and do something more rewarding.
If you really have a problem with this… Stop playing.
Nothign else will ever deliver a message. Every one of you that still plays is only telling them “we’re suckers and we’ll put up with it, as long as it’s not too long and not too thick, and you give us a kiss afterwards”.
I just won’t buy gems. I already paid for access, I may as well keep using it, even if just as a giant 3D chat, but I’m not buying any more gems. My original plan was to just buy $20 worth one month, $10 the next and keep alternating for the average $15/mo sub fee. But after having huge problems with EVERY step of the karka event, Grenth being permanently bugged, losing gear to the mystic forge bugs, and now this… F it.
I really liked this game during leveling but the longer this goes on the more I find it just plain frustrating…. it’s starting to look like a complete debacle at this point.

Well, farmed Cursed Shore events today, did the math and sent all the info to ANet as well as a screen shot of the loot I had gotten from 13 events (yes loot from 13 events was sitting in less than 50 slots) … I did some extra math and prior to Nov15 I would of almost got double the loot I got now, and a much greater % of equipment than I do now. Included those details in the bug report as well.
Rigth now about 19% of my loot is equipment, about 42% is junk and about 39% fines/bags/salvagable. The make up used to be 45% equipment, 34% junk, and 21% fines/bags/salvagable.
Not only has the quantity changed, but also the quality. It has also seemed to have gotten worse since 11 days ago when I was getting more fines/bags/salvagable than junk.

Remember the days where you had to empty your inv every couple of events in Cursed Shore, and you’d make about 2G an hour … I miss them too.

Yeah, in fact, now if my bags are full I have to choose between blues and porous bones, so many bones drop that a stack can give some silver compared to blue drops which just give a few copper. That’s quite sad!

This isn’t restricted to Cursed Shore, Cursed Shore is just easier to show the bug because of all the events.
But a nice new thread to invade.. ehm.. I intended to write " to mention the loot issue" ^^

True, I just posted it as out of all the zones, it is the one I presume people would be most familar with loot levels. I don’t want to hijack that thread, just point out that the drops there are an issue in the zone – which applies to half the reason why people are there in the first place.

I stopped playing. I will come back when they fix it…if they ever fix it. GG Anet.
Wow. This is very disturbing indeed. I didn’t know how bad it was until reading this thread (I usually don’t use TP).
Too bad for ANET, I can’t buy gems anyways, because I’ve quit. Hopefully, the next major update is for the players, and we can return to the game we imagined it to be (not likely).
best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base.”
The funny thing is that the Nov 15th fix acctually made WvW give loads more loot, esspecially rares and exotics. It’s almost as if they made the old WvW loot code work in PvE and vice versa. If they do something to adjust the drops more, I seriously hope they wont take away the new amazing WvW loot.
Gems gold value is skyrocketing…I guess Christmas means serious business whatever you sell…
Now that the gems gold value is very high, can we have the loot drop tables reverted to pre-15th November values?
Gold is so devaluated now compared to gems that I think we can get open world drops un-nerfed.
Game uninstalled.
I was one of those players that bought gems at the start. I know it doesnt matter, one player leaves another player comes……
whats that I hear “can I have your stuff/gold”
What stuff/gold?
GJ to the development/management team, you are killing what would have been a fairly good game (once all the bugs had been ironed out). Good luck to those of you that stay, I have resubscribed to an older game, its quite refreshing for me to get drops (of absolutely anything) when i complete/kill something, novel idea that one.
Did I get my money’s worth from GW2? I dont know, it was suppose to be an MMO, now its “Run TA/Fractals to earn loot” MMO’s are suppose to be more than one dimensional gaming and i am afraid that this game is extremely one dimensional
I am afraid that this game is extremely one dimensional
I thought the game was 3 dimensional. How can you even play a 1 dimensional game!
Other than that, silence means nothing, im sure it will be very hard to see if something is wrong with such a system, I bet they wont find a bug until much later.

The word “dimension” in the English language can also refer to Aspects or Elememts. For example a striker in a soccer team can have more dimensions to his game (he may be able to take a good free kick, be a good captain of the squad, or turn a hand to defending, when push comes to shove).
The word Dimensional in my above post was regarding “Aspects or Elements”, i.e. more than just one way to achieve something, now there is not, its Fractals for Loot, or nothing.
For your information the word “facetious” is defined as:
“Not serious; intending to be funny or humourous”
I guess this is what you were tring to be?

On the contrary, I think silence means everything and it would be incredibly easy for them to see if people are getting less drops.
For one, they can see the supply into the trading post in a tonne of detail, but I am sure they can tell how many things have dropped from mobs over a period of time.
Silence means they havent acknowledged a problem, havent got proof there is no problem, have done it intentionally or just don’t care about settling community unrest.
I “really” hope this gets fixed soon, lvl73 and I’m having “alot” of trouble just in the southern most parts of Frostgorge Sound because I still haven’t picked up anything to replace the lvl 50-64 “equipment” thats on my ele … this is rediculious. Only managed 2 levels tonight and lost money due to all the dieing and almost getting one shot by stuff the same level as me.
Sure I could goto a lower area, but then I wont get the loot I need for my eles current level.

Yeah, pretty much. =P
I don’t disagree that loot in other areas is fairly lacking, while in fractals I get an exotic once a day if lucky, it’s pretty silly. Yet this game world itself is whats rewarding to me the most.
That said, I don’t play for loot. (luckily) I just play to have some fun with friends and wander around the world looking for events that are interesting to me. Either soloing or making friends along the way, a bit of role playing (or being facetious about it :p) always provides me enough fun within the game.
I never think of as getting loot as an achievement. It’s usually something you “work towards” which takes out the whole game aspect out of a game. I already find it a chore finding lvl x fractals or dungeon groups.
So I find stuff to do in the game, even if i dont get the loot, and I try to kill champs and veterans jsut to see if maybe the drop issue is fixed.
Im still hoping they stop throwing in things that count as focussed “endgame” and go back to endgame = the whole world. Because that was just a very nice idea.

That’s what you make out of it. It might just be that they can’t find the bug itself to fix it. I mean it’s all nice to come out and say, “Oh people are getting less loot, so there is a bug” (Even though the players getting loot from fractals aren’t getting less loot at all.) But it might be that the loot from fractals just need to be balanced with the loot in the rest of the world, or (if they are connected) make fractals loot be separate from world loot.

This post serves as a genuine and honest plea for a heads up regarding the post november-15 observed loot issues. I will not go as far as to say that the drop reduction is a result of a bug or a nerf simply because i am not familiar with your systems/algorithms but it is quite obvious that something regarding these rates has been off for a while now.
Many of us have set long term goals in the game and are anxiously waiting for a hint that this issue has been acknowledged and being worked on. It has been roughly one month now and there has been not a single response on this matter to ease our minds.
I personally don’t care about the outcome of this issue will be and do not expect to see a specific response to make me happy. All i really want is to see that we, the gamers are treated with the respect and communication we had been promised.
That is all.
EDIT: This post was actually a new thread. It seems that it was moved here…

After all is said here, do you guys actually believe they will fix the drop rates this Friday? I think not so!
Guys, and gals, read my post here
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Loot-Drop-Rate-Bug/979694
Support say that reporting the issue using the ingame bug reporting system it is the best way to get the issue escalated. But we need everyone to report it, not just one or 2 of us. So play in your favorate loot areas, and when you think you got enough to show its not working properly report it. This system give alot more deatail than we can supply on the forums.
I am hoping support will help bring it to the attention of the developers as well as I stated that we had already been using the forums, as they suggested, with no response, and was concerned the right people were not seeing it.

No, they will not fix the drop rates for Wintersday, if anything they’ll make them even worse, if that’s possible. This is the Christmas season and money flows like a raging river. They’ll be banking on the fact that some of that money will get diverted in to the gem store.
Might be that the global drop rates are influenced by the actual ratio of Gems bought via cash vs. Gems bought via gold, as a safe measure for their cash influx.
Or maybe drops rate have a world total PPM mechanic, multiplied by the number of game account active, but now bots are eating all those procs instead of the players.
But this is a “conspiracy theory” rated thought only, from the dark side of my mind.

The losers here are legit players. The winners here are the bots and the gem store. I can spot a bot pretty quickly, and thousands of people did not pay me $60 each to do so.
I see the same bots week after week even after reported.
