Change to "Show Ally Names" behavior.
You can unbind the alt button in the controls options.
I think you’re missing my point. I want the Alt key to show ally names. I don’t want it to show MY name, which it never did before. Showing ally names is very helpful for me for wvw positioning, targeting, and ally assistance.
Yes agreed. Would rather not see my own name. There’s enough visual clutter as it is. I understand people wanting the feature, but it should have an option box.
There is no benefit to forcing this on a player. After all, I am well aware of what my own characters name is…
What if we like the rest of what it does and would prefer the old way?
I get that some people wanted to see their own names for whatever reason, and I’m fine with them having that option, but I don’t want to see it and don’t think I should be stuck seeing it just so they can have it.
Why the heck not add it as an option, a toggle, so that people who want it can have it and those who don’t aren’t stuck with it?!?!
Who exactly would that hurt?
On a side note, this does not effect the setting “Show All Player Names” which makes ally names appear all the time, yours does not unless you hold down the button even with this change.
There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon

Please disable this, why would I need to see my own name? I know who I am…
I want to see it. I would like to know what others really see when they see me. I better get in quick while I have the chance. So many complaining – it will get removed. : (
One more thing about name tags. I don’t like them in EotM. Think it would be funner not knowing if the people you were approaching were friend or foe. I would like to be able to hide behind a rock/tree without my name tag giving me away.
I understand that Drow, but many of us don’t want the clutter. We’ve been fine w/o it for 3 years and we’ve not missed it.
However, if it needs to exist and I don’t agree it does, then it must, absolutely must, have an option to disable. Everyone wins that way.
The ability to see one’s own nameplate was a frequently requested option. Those that wanted this are happy with the change.
ANet may give it to you.
A couple of small threads, I wouldn’t say it was frequently asked fo.r There’s no reason not to have this as optional regardless if I’m wrong on that
What about those who didn’t want it?
Also, you and I are the only 2 ppl here, we discussed this yesterday

It did address a problem in this cosmetic and title reward based game where people could not see the title that they had gotten on their own char without asking someone to target them. The inability to see your own title in a game where titles were a big reward for playing was an important disadvantage to the old system.
(Since we are the only 2 people who play this game and I want it, to bad for you!) :P
ANet may give it to you.

Can you see your own gold star now too?
Discussed this yesterday? The thread is 2 hours old.
Not that bit Only 2 ppl in the game

No

Yah. Figured that part after I posted. I forgot you were a real person. I figured I was talking to myself again. ^^

No
Lame. If I’m going to see my own name I want to see my star too.
You can see your title in the hero panel where you select it. Why would you need to see it above your character? For a momentary thrill? There are no skills that require you to select yourself and you can’t click yourself or your name when using the toggle. It serves no purpose at all but visual clutter that impacts many players negatively during pvp where visual real-estate is already too messy.
But I need to know where my character is on the screen! /sarcasm
Yeah, this change needs to go.
It’s good to have this ‘as option’. The Issue? It’s not an option, but a white text spam for (some) people who don’t want the clutter on the screen. In past a party member could ‘control+T’ (mark) you, in this way, but now having this on top of it, first I thought it was a bug, caused by that Ctrl+T action, but it was way to continuous to not be a bug.
No excuse anymore for not giving ‘hide mounts’-option
No thanks to unidentified weapons.
Yeah, this is obnoxious. If it was a toggle that would be nice, but it’s not. If they can’t make it toggleable I’d like to see it gone

I think it’s horribly distrubing to see your own name tag in bright white and it should really be an option to choose for those who need to see their own name/title.
I’d like to see the names of the ppl around me when I need it, but now I’m forced to disable this function, because it really annoys me while playing.
Even archeage has options to customize names you see on the screen.

I like it, very much.
Seems this thread could be merged with the other, though.
I agree that there should be an option to turn this feature on or off.
I know that some people really wanted it and I can imagine that once in a while it may be useful to be able to check how your name and title are displayed. But not every single time I want to see the names of people around me.
The fact that it pops up in the middle of the screen in a different colour to everything else makes it very distracting.
As soon as I realised this had been added I went looking for the check box on the options menu to disable it and I was genuinely surprised to find there wasn’t one. Yes people asked for it, but since Anet made the game without this feature and it took them 3 years to add it I assume they can also see the appeal of not having your own name on screen masking things in front of you.
Making it a feature you can turn on or off would enable each person to choose individually, and to change their minds if necessary, which would make everyone happy.
