Changes to Trait system
Several months.
So if it really is several months, it really would be fair to tell us all how this is going to happen:
- Are we going to get gold spent on traits back?
- Are we going to relearn traits in the new system?
- and so on…
Only thing said about release of the trait system is it will come before HoT, so could be later today, could be in like 3 years
Either #2 or #3 are your best options right now. However it’ll probably be a while still before the new changes come into the game. (I’m thinking at least another month, but I could very well be wrong).
I doubt we’ll see any kind of reimbursement for gold spent, so I highly advise against doing that.
As for relearning traits…. traits and skills will all unlock via hero points if I understand the new system correctly.
I’m with Lanfear above, except I’d be shocked to see the new trait system in the game any sooner than two to three months.
One thing you could do to prepare for the new system is start in on skill challenges around the world, since those are going to translate to hero challenges. As for me, I’m just not playing any of my trait-deficient characters until this system launches.

Because we can’t be angry about both?
the pve effort aint wasted your skill points you get from them are changed into hero point that you can use the second the trait system change to buy all the skills you had before.
You only need like 60 of them that less then a third of the total ones
I recommend only unlocking the traits you specifically want to use. It will be a lot easier, especially if you’re already 80 anyway.

I’d be shocked and surprised if any refunds were forthcoming. While the data base shows which traits a character has unlocked, there would be no reason to store how they were unlocked. Without that data, ANet would be unable to ID those who’d spent gold versus those who unlocked via content.
I’d also be shocked and surprised if the Hero points from leveling and challenges are already spent on traits when the patch hits. Some traits are gone, and others have been merged or moved. How could one automate that for a huge assortment of possibilities? It would be a lot easier on them to have us do it, since most are probably going to want to consider changing things up anyway to take advantage of the changes to the system. That said, a L80 with ~65 skill/hero challenges done would just go through the selection interfaces clicking everything, a matter of a few moments per character.

I was trying to be optimistic
I don’t expect it anytime soon either (thus the “at least” chunk of the statement). But we can dream…

Earliest possible date would be June 30th from the looks of things because it’s 1 elite specialization per week and there are 9 to go through. This could shrink or grow depending on how well development is going.

And what does elite specialisations have to do with when they can release the core specialisations?, the elites ones we know wont be before HoT so for the HoT release you are correct, but for the core specs with the new system there is nothing we know of that prevents them from releasing it tonight (not that i expect but with what we know it as good of a possibility as any other time frame
