I’m not quite sure how you could possibly turn this entire ordeal around by saying it’s “my fault”, or anyone salvaging a substantial amount of rares for that matter.

When I have to salvage over 500 rares every day, I’m not going to check each individual batch. I just fill up my inventory, salvage, open Lion Post, fill inventory again, etc…

How did they determine who to send to? I’m fairly certain I used my kit (though not the whole thing) for some salvaging and always got 0 ectos from my exotics. Perhaps they only send it to people who used up a whole kit in the time frame?

I will admit that I was quite annoyed when I heard of this bug. I’m extremely pleased, however, that the salvage kits I used were replaced. Too many games don’t have the customer service, the kindness, helpfulness or overall wonderfulness that the people here have. I just wanted to express my gratitude and happiness that this was corrected and dealt with in the manner that it was.

The BL kits are still good and do return more ectos than the master. If you knew the problem was being investigated then why buy BL kits or use the ones you were saving? Couldn’t go a day or two without breaking down your supply of rares?

He was running tests to help determine if they were also affecting the Black Lion Salvage Kits. Please read more than one post by that poster to determine this.

And I lost 3g doing tests myself, to post in this thread to sway the non-believers as well as providing details for whoever was reading the thread but that was my decision, I knew I would lose money on it. You don’t see me asking for reparations. Now that doesn’t sound like a lot but to me that’s 4-5% of my account’s net worth in gold. That’s on top of the 4-5g I loss attempting to outrun what I first thought was a long string of bad luck.

I’m not talking about gold, this was about real money. And if it was only 10c, it’s still real money. I never asked them to compensate for the gold I used to buy the rares or the time I spent on getting the other rares I salvaged that day. Absolutely no need to defend them. Anyway, they’ve taken the right step.

Good move ANET, it is the little things like giving back the BLSK’s that got wasted due to the bug that will go towards gaining you customer loyalty.

We’ve had communication, resolution and replacement (of the salvage kits at least) with regards to this issue. So from me at least, good job and thanks.

I just salvaged an exotic with a black lion salvage kid. 1 ecto, 1 mithril ore. Crap, what a waste.

Did this glitch apply to salvaging in general or salvaging with the Black Lion Kit? I used up a whole mystic kit recently and was curious.

So i take back what i said about being reimbursed for using the kits during the bug. Thanks anet, i certainly wasn’t expecting that!

My thanks also to GW2 support. Certainly wasn’t expecting any reward – not like it was a deliberate action on your part (despite what the consipracy nuts still ramble on about).

I’m thinking it was also affecting drop rates as well. Last night I’ve had the most rares I’ve ever had drop. I got one from the shatterer guaranteed of course that’s always been there, but then I also got 1 from his chest (unheard of for people with my problem) and one from a mob in the area I was fighting (it was a veteran). Maybe they fixed something that was also affecting drop rates?

I was so frustrated two weeks ago I uninstalled the game because nothing would ever drop off anything.

A salvaging bug. It caused lowered ecto rates and also the wrong mats to salvage from items (eg cloth mats from metal)

I think the fact that they replaced the kits is a great gesture. If you spent a ton of gold to buy rares well kitten that sucks I’m sorry about your loss. But for them to replace all salvage kits used is something most game companies wouldn’t do.

Not to mention you could have already sold your materials that you DID make from the kits. So basically you’re asking them to give you all your money back even though you already may have sold your salvage mats.

Be happy you got the kits back.

Did someone hold a gun to your head to buy a BL salvage kit to do a test and post about it? No you volunteered to test it yourself. Thank you for doing so but you should have known that decision and it’s consequences, paying real money, was all on you.

IMO nobody should expect/demand to be compensated for “helping out”. Nice if it happens but shouldn’t be expected, all I’m saying.

I also noticed the bug immediately after it was introduced but honestly I just thought ANet was trying to adjust the price of ecto by reducing ecto salvage drop rates from rares. Either way giving back Black Lion Salvage kits is a nice gesture.

Slightly different RNG function but has anyone tried using those Orr boxes or the crafting laurel bags since the bug was fixed? I’m curious to see the results on those since the salvaging thing was fixed.

Orr boxes are pretty random, I think some people did research on them before. Idk if there’s enough pre-info on laurel stuff to really compare yet.

That can be pretty normal though, mostly it takes several hundred thousand karma or even millions to see the rate for those drops. I’ve been super lucky and super unlucky with them heh.
